    Another very helpful video - had the setup close to this, but this cleans up some of the issues I was having, thank you!

    dude. fantastic.
    I've been looking for a affordable rhythm solution for my looping rig, and this takes the cake.
    just found a volca on special - stoked!

      Oh man that’s awesome!!! It’s such a fun and effective little setup.. I think you’ll love it! And there’s probably even a lot more you can do if you want to get really creative with MIDI CCs… have fun!

    Hi T.J. many thanks for this precious explanation 🥰 just a quick question about the "time-glitch" that you show at 08:02. I see it happens when you: 1) hit PLAY on the Volca > 2) step on the Rc5 (recording thus the first loop).
    I see though that in your intro song (lovely) you are there able to overdub the bass at a random point (the screen on the Boss turns orange), without the glitch you show at 08.02.
    Do I understand correctly that this glitch only happens when I start on the Volca, but not when I start on the Boss? Am I free to overdub at anytime without glitch by beginning on the Boss? What if I alway begin on the Boss, recording an emptly loop, and then overdubbing? I hope it's clear and thank you anyway for your time! All the best from Italy

      @@matteocampostrini2770 Thank you! And good question! Yes if you start playback with the looper then there won’t be any glitching (but it will start recording right away!) I was able to avoid “glitching” in the intro because I hit my (external) footswitch right on the downbeat. The bass is in overdub mode.

    T.J. - love your videos. I have a question: I own the Boss RC5 and HX-Stomp XL; I recently bought a used Maschine Mikro. Is there any way to sync Maschine Mikro with the Boss Looper RC5 to achieve what you've done with the Korg, or do you need a MIDI drum machine? Thank you

    • @tjguardino
      @tjguardino  5 дней назад +1

      @@francescocarletti3281 thanks so much!! You will need a physical MIDI out to sync up to the boss looper and unfortunately the maschine mikro doesn’t have one. If you have an audio interface that has MIDI out then you can send it out of the Maschine software to your looper, but that’s a lot to set up!

    Hi, can you help pls me with your opinion, I'm starting to explore the world of dawless music productions and sampling, I bought recently a vocal sample 2 but I feel that 16 step sequencer with only 16 sequence memory is such a big issue to have multiple tracks, offcourse i buy becouse is aforable, but I want a recommendation for a budget friendly gear more versatile and protable for guitar acompanion

      Hey man! There’s a lot of great sampler options out there that would be a step up from the Volca. Id recommend checking out the Teenage Engineering ep-133 or the Novation Circuit rhythm!

    Hey, great vids and nice music! I played around with the volca and the rc5, too, and there is an inofficial way to get a midi clock OUT on the volca. Indeed there is even a solderless pcb mod out there (Audio Piltz did a great review on that in his Bad Gear Series here on RUclips btw). You just have to screw it open, add the pcb-mod onto the solderung points that are ridiculously even marked by Korg with „midi out“ and drill a hole for the 3.5mm midijack. And it turned out if you want to use a 3.5 to 3.5 TRS cable you have to change the red and the yellow wire with each other on the addon-pcb but then it works fine for the clock at least (you even can send midi commands by using the volca samples touch buttons but it seems to be not very useful to me since the internal midicommands dont make that much sense for an external device, but maybe there are some fancy use cases. I think I saw a guy using this signals for triggering visuals depending on the played sample…
    Maybe this mod has some use for you setup too?
    well, I got this stuff to work with the rc5 as the midi slave, but I got some nasty time stretching issues for the audio of the rc5 keeping the tempo constant on the volca. Read that the rc5 is problematic with time stretching artifacts if you change the tempo for a loop, but hoped that for constant tempo it will be just fine as it was in your last video. I do not own a KOii and I therefore wonder if the issue is just because the midi clock signal from the volca has to much jittering going on or did you made some settings that I missed with the rc5 to get this working that flawless in your last video with the KOii as master?
    Greatings and keep on the great work!

      Oh man Bad Gear is LEGENDARY I gotta check out that episode on modding the Volca! That sounds super promising, I gotta try it! When I use the KO-II as master clock and send out to the RC-5 it does work great at original tempo, but I don’t really mess with time stretching while using the RC-5 so I’m not sure about the quality. I’ll have to give that a shot soon!

      With the mod mentioned by @luzidreams, would you be able to control the tempo of the RC 5 with the tempo knob on the Korg volca? Is that something you can already do with the KO-II?

    • @luzidreams
      @luzidreams 2 месяца назад

      @@emersonmann4821 the volca tempo knob works fot this just fine. You should be able to modify the tempo on the rc5 with the knob of the KO-II, too, since the rc5 always adjusts to the midiclock signal even while playing/ dubbing. However, you should only adjust the tempo before you begin your looping project since you will likely get serious distortion in your looped sounds if you change the tempo on the go while making your loops. The rc 5 will adjust the tempo but it is not good at modifying the record accordingly. Thats at least my experience.

      @@tjguardino the issue with my volca/rc5 setup was that I got some unwanted timestretching artifacts while trying a simple loop with the volca as master. I‘m rather new to the world of looping, therefore it could just be me who is not accurate enough pressing the pedal. From my knowledge the rc5 automatically adjusts the loop to the given midi clock and if you don’t press the button perfectly it will stretch the loop to the midi timeframe instead of just keeping the loop were it was as it is which results in a time stretched loop that doesn’t really sound appealing due to the limited capabilities of the rc5 in stretching or compressing loops. Another source of this distortions could be an inaccurate midi clock by the volca, I guess. I read on reddit that the rc5 begins to have artifacts by a midi clock that variates around +- 0.5bpm…But it‘s a fact that your loops sound amazing and crystal clear and my first baby steps with the modded volca and the rc5 sound distorted, maybe due to a setting that I didn‘t find, yet, (or that simply doesn‘t exist) or due to your far better experience in looping and accuracy 🤷‍♂️

      @@luzidreams I was just dealing with this the other day! I don’t know for sure.. but I’ve noticed that different devices can send inconsistent clock which causes the RC-5 to try and constantly time stretch. In my experience, it’s usually more reliable to use the looping device as master clock and have the drums follow that. Or use a super high quality clock :)
