In this film Sinatra sings "One for My Baby". "Just One of Those Things". "You My Love" "Someone to Watch Over Me" and "Young at Heart." Great songs, fun flic...
By far the best performance in this movie is not from Sinatra or Doris Day or Gig Young -- but from the background players, the extras, who have to pretend to ignore Sinatra (while talking, laughing, drinking, flirting) just feet away from the master himself singing one of his best, most wistful ballads. Anyone who can be in a scene where Sinatra is singing and pretend not to care has some great acting chops!
True, but the vocal was added in post, so they just would have watched Sinatra lip-sync the song and wave his hands over a keyboard while trying very hard to not sing a Gershwin masterpiece. Now's THAT's some great acting chops! :-)
@@shanewright2772 good points. I've always wondered if the singers actually sang along with the already recorded vocal -- just to make the movements of their vocal apparatus look more believable. Or did they just silently lip sync? Assuming there were no live mics on set, they easily could've sung aloud to their own voice. Would've been fascinating to be on the set to see these movies being made.
@@curtlewis2795 no, they never sang the songs. the reason they couldn't sing out loud is because of the echo and they needed to have a boom mic on (for instance Doris Day's tables) the dinner table for live audio. If Frank would have actually been singing, the whole track would have been messed up and Frank's actually singing voice "carry" would have echo'ed and been a mess to the audio that they truly DID need to capture. Frank would have just been lip sync'ing here and of course he didn't play the piano at all (didn't even know how).
@@dabneyoffermein595 Good points, certainly. You're most probably right in this instance. In other movies where no ambient sound is necessary I've always had a thought the singer was singing out loud to his/her own recording. Many Judy Garland songs, for instance, I'd say it's likely she's singing aloud while lip-syncing to her track. But then, she was such a great actress, she could make it look live no matter what.
Watching this movie right now and I am in LOVE. Huge Frank Sinatra fan 💙. He was unreal; his voice, his face, his acting skills, his piano playing. I would have loved to meet him 💙 HBD Frank 🎶
THATS BECAUSE THERE NAME WAS'NT FRANK SINATRA, THE BEST SINGER EVER IN THE 20TH CENTRY YOUR 1 IN A MILLION WHO DIDN'T LIKE SINATRA, THERE NEVER EVER WILL BE ANOTHER SINATRA, THATS LIFE MY FRIENDS. 😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆

ha, no !!! he didn't know how to play the piano and he couldn't read music. he was harsh on himself for not being very smart, but he made up for it with that velvet voice box of his.....until he of course ruined it with cigarettes and Jack Daniels.
X factor Cheryl. Sinatra connected to his audience with deep feeling in his voice. Was his voice better than other vocalists? No. He wasn't a handsome man - small/skinny/scarred face, but the deep feeling that came out and his intense love for what he did, big band arrangers who he could not have performed without - all managed to make Sinatra what he became. We know now he was manic/depressive, arrogant, and not well liked, personally. But, that X factor, drive, is why he is a legend.

While taking the priceless atmosphere for granted, little did they know that it will never come back...

Love Frank Sinatra so much. Thank you for posting this.☺
Frank couldn't play the piano and it's comical to watch him try to fake the shoulder movements, lol. cracks me up.
Sinatra and the Gershwins... Was there ever a finer moment in popular music than this?
There's probably only been half a dozen geniuses in American popular music and George gErshwin was absolutely at the forefront of them.
Someone give this kid a record deal. He's not bad.
Fabulous song sng with greatness
could watch this every christmas
Simply amazing
Grande Franki.👀👌🌹🍃🌹🍃🌹

Så fint tack
I love the glance-back look he gives to Doris.
I love how Frank quotes Billy Holiday in this song - he was a big fan of hers.
The year I was born-and a few others...

Anyone have the sheet music for this arrangement?
Is there sheet music for the way Sinatra plays it?
XDMacXFTLX ,

Daddy is behind Frank. Warren G. Noeldechen.
Frank is a sad ginger bread man
typischer Saloon-song
B Flat
Was that really Frank playing the piano?

@@dabneyoffermein595He didn't ruin his voice. If anything, Whiskey and Smoking improved his voice. The same way it improved Lemmy Kilmister. 😎
Could frank play piano?
No he couldn't
That was Bill Miller, Sinatra’s accompanist.
sorry Frank, I don't care for your style, ethics, or voice. Why are so many with way more talent, not recognized. so sad!
Cheryl Edelman trollin hard

Here is to hoping your IQ. Is far higher than your knowledge of music!
Barbara Karamon Sinatra's voice was great in the 40s and 50!
