Pocket is so tight... Less is so much more, and honestly this is what a professional drummer looks like! Props to you! Knowing when NOT to play is what makes the best drummer and not feeling a need to fill every nook and cranny. When you do something a little more it makes that much more tasteful and nice to listen to.
Saw you guys in Tuscaloosa and it was one of the best live shows I've seen. Thanks to your videos I noticed your playing a lot more, loved Jon standing by you during the awesome solos in "Lucky Tonight". Thanks for all the cool videos!
Great playing Kev!!! I’ve been a self taught drummer and have been playing live for many years and have been following your videos for sometime now. Your vids have really helped me with playing live with a click track. Keep the vids coming and hope to see you play live one of these days. Cheers!!
Kevin Murphy yessir man!!. I learn so much from this videos man! You definitely paid your dues! Your style is absolutely flawless! Keep up the wonderful work!☝️!🔥🔥
You're a fucking monster, Kevin. I like a lot of the fancy schmancy players out there like Greb/Nilles but I also love your fucking get-it-done clean as hell playing. May seem like a backhanded comment and I only mean that I'm not a huge country fan in general. (More of a metal and jazz kind of guy, funny enough) That fact that you can make what is essentially like that...country swang thing and make it so precise and powerful just blows my fucking mind. Nothing against Pardi, it's a GREAT band...they're really tight...but if I was coming to see you guys play...personally I'd be coming to worship your fucking chops. Sorry that was a LOT of F word.
Man thank you for the kind words. I wasn’t much of a country guy either to be honest. I grew up in prog and metal and was a band/dci nerd. I still don’t care for most country, but playing with Jon and some others has definitely taught me about the nuance of some of the pocket required to pull it off, especially with JP’s love of Dwight, Buck, etc. Cheers!
Think of it as a pal playing percussion rather than a competitive force locking you to something. I’m thankful for it when other players are pushing or pulling!
@@TheBigrightfootthanks for replying! I play Classic Maples also, they are so versatile. Are the K Sweets very thin? I'm not a super hard hitter but want to make sure they can stand an occasional beating.
click tracks are a blend of click and shaker, typically, and lined up in Ableton with intro counts, song titles, etc. The SPD is acting as just a midi controller for Ableton. Thanks!
Oh man, theres a LOT of info that covers this answer, too much for this section to be comprehensive, BUT: Work in your area, build the name and skills scoot to a place that launches tours and records alot (LA, NYC, Nashville) then do the same, building that name. I started with a band of friends 30 years ago and kept getting hired away by bigger acts that we'd play with, eventually ending up in buses and on bigger stages. I think that is the most definitive way to "do it" that isn't mostly luck.
nice drumming nice to hear a snare thats actually smooth and not tight frying pan crack its fun to have that but your missing all the tone of the snare thats my opinion anyway awesome work man
More groove, more fun and like every other drummer watching this - love that bloody fill at 2:34!
Dang right mate I still have no idea how to get that smooth ✊🏼🍻
So sick!
Bonham triplets (I think??) but split between toms and hi hat which really sounds cool.
. @matthandford my friend so so so efficient

James Brown to signal everyone. Love it.
The cues for the changes on the trash can at the end are hilarious!🤣
I love hearing your in ear track :) especially in the end 👌🏼
The ending is absurd. Those counts are fun ways to help stick the last chords when so much real estate is between us.
And that sir.. is how you get it done! bravo man.
Damn good, Kevin! And thanks for giving my brother some lessons, haha!

Super tasty roll at 1:49. Great work, Kev.
Love hearing in ear tracks, makes videos like this so much better. New fan, but love your playing, super tight!
Hey Kevin.. Great Show at the RYMAN. (Oct 2) Sounded Awesome and Thanks again for the Sticks.. Super Cool Shadow Box Addition!!!!
Solid as brick and just plain fun. great stuff Kevin.

Revisiting for the 100th time 🙌🏻. Love these vids! I’ve learned so much eveyrtime! Inspired to drum/click cam live after the shoulder heals 🙏🏻
Stellar crossover fill mate...

Great work! Love Dirt On My Boots!
Love the chorus and 2:33 is rad!
Bruh is that what you really have triggered for those finale hits?! Kickass!
awesome playing, fill at 2.34 is wicked!
The count offs are so great! 😂
Damn that fill was sick on mark 2:35! I’ll have to use that whenever I have to cover that song for a artist! Killer stiff man!
That looks like a John Bonham cross over fill

That fill at 2:34 is disturbingly awesome!
Lee Francis looked at him like JEEZUS MAN... lol that fill is wicked
Very impressive!
so the some of the band gets fed the click and some funny queing. Nice, What a show
This 🔥🔥🔥
@3:59 the midwest slugfest breaks loose! Thats some filthy shit!
Great playing man
Thanks!
Only way to describe this is “bad ass”!
2:33 is awesome! “I think I’ll just erm… drop this here”… now back to those “payday” meat and tatties!
This guy gave me so much shit when i was in college with him for being into porcaro, bonham, chancler and the likes. Look at him now.
I just needed time to grow towards Jeff a bit 😂
I know I have to...after hearing it so perfectly...I have to start using a click track.....I've been resistant

Ludwig Classic Maples, 22,12,13,14,16 with Aquarian Super 2's. Thanks for the kind words!

@@progression_decibel I think they're perfect. I hit pretty hard and they hold up well, but are still thin enough to 'spread' quickly
Love these videos Kevin, just want to know does the whole band have the clivk running or is it just you?
The band and Jon all hear the click and counts. Thanks!
Holy shit!!! So good!
Do you always play with Click when you Play live or just with certain songs?
most! the lights and vid wall are programmed in time with me so I have to use click for most of the set
@@TheBigrightfoot oh ok thanks!
Great!!! What do you use as click track? You create them separately and load them into that SPD?

@@TheBigrightfoot thanks a lot! Great drumming!
What In Ears do you use and what metronome track do you use ?
F. I. L. T. H. Y.
That secondary snare is a monster! Is that reverb, the venue, or both?
both. I like the side snare slightly wet.
@@TheBigrightfoot what kind of snare are you using for the side snare?
what kind of drum machine is that you use for the tempo?
