Increase speed and lower drag by designing the bike so you lay flat on your back between the wheels ,.. it would reduce the surface area by 30% to 35% if encapsulated like the bike at 1:55 simply because it would be 30 to 35% shorter in height.
Long thin does not reduce surface area. Smallest surface area for a given volume is a prefectly round ball. Issue is drag. Even a air move along a flat surface parallel to the wind there is drag.
cforr154 . Oh dear. All bikes roll down hill because of gravity. They do not have to be pedalled. I know that such a phenomenon is out of reach for many people. As I said, I had not thought to explain this, and had just assumed a modicum of insight. Try it. Take your bike to the top of a hill, and roll it down. This happens because of gravity. Now point it up the hill, and it does not roll up the hill. Neither do bikes without pedals! Therefore, both machines are subject to gravity. Now, even if you do pedal the bike up the hill, it is still subject to gravity. You will find it more difficult to go up hill because you are working against gravity. So all bikes are subject to gravity. Both are pulled by gravity. If you work against gravity, you are supplying the power....not the bike. The bike cannot do so on its own, though it can go down hill on its own, applying the gyroscopic effect of its wheels. I hope this helps.
