The Yamaha YSS-875EX is what converted me to Yamaha after playing Selmer horns for many years. I truly think it’s the finest soprano saxophone ever made.
Tried Yani, R&C, Selmer top models… and this. No comparison in terms of clarity of the sound and dynamics. Plus, excellent flexibility. Really love this sax.
Your soprano sound is quite good for someone who doesn't play the soprano much. Honestly, if I could have any saxophones it would be a gold plated 875Ex Alto and Soprano, love the sound of those!
These horns are hand made. Cross comparison wouldn't offer anything useful for comparing the models as whole other than how each of the test horns compare to each other.
The squonkability of this horn is at levels never previously thought possible...I will be trying to save up for one. I wonder if used horns are more reasonably priced?
Jim you might not play the soprano very much but for me, you are at your best on the soprano. You play so well on the soprano. As a side note, will you autograph it on request?
Best you have ever sounded on a video. Gold plating is heaven.

If Mozart was alive, he'd compose 'The Magic Soprano' opera for this saxophone. Thanks Jim for showing us this rare beast.

Absolutely gorgeous. What a beautiful tone as well!

I have one of these. The look and sound are magnificent. I certainly can’t play as well as JIm but this horn is a joy.
It takes Jim to sound this great, obviously.
Great sax and amazing saxophonist!
I’d buy 2 of these pretty things and wear them as earrings.
Wonderfully presented! It would be nice if you could do a cross-brand, cross-material comparisons : 475II vs SWO-2 and/or 875EX vs SWO-20.

@@minty_lint They are very consistent. Comparing the test horns will provide enough data

I'll take two!
Very nice!
Always such a treat. Love to listen to Jim play. Its tone didn’t make an impression, I’m afraid.
it's interesting you mention it. I wonder how much of it is set up. I'm personally very partial to the selmer sound. Nothing like it.

How does the 82z compare to this pls?
Nice!..................$$$$$$$$$$$
♥️
Plating doesn't affect the sound, but gold is pretty and won't tarnish
It’s also more durable than lacquer, so it protects the brass underneath that way in addition to preventing corrosion.
Plating DOES affect the sound thats nonsense!!! Gold plating also has more resistance.
The only good saxaphone
I deadass thought it was called the 87-SEX not 5EX
how destroy sax sound learn to play sax man
how destroy english language learn to english man
Jokes aside, Jim sounds great and your comment is just rude and needless.
👎🏿 Thumbs down to your mean comment
