Don't sleep on a lipless crank in the winter! Something in a red eye shad body style really works great for working all water depths. And you can even slow it down and fish it finesse! And yes, Jimi, I'm still here. I always watch 100% of the video!
Jimi has already began to put a lipless crankbait video together! That is his top bait for January! Thank you for watching! we appreciate your feedback and support for the channel.
Awesome break down man! I’m starting to gain confidence in these cranking lures after watching BFD and y’all individually just bounce them off everything! Thanks for always bringing the juice🎣
The "Classic Plug" still catches boatloads of fish today. How many millions of bass have been caught on Rapala "plugs"? Happy New Year blessings to you and your families. Thanks for sharing
TIP! Add suspend strips so your crankbaits suspend or float up really slow. Your get way more bites, especially when you contact cover. Also i have been experimenting with adding a small willow blade to crankbaits and having good luck in really clear water. Good show man.
Great video. I love crankbaits year round especially the Black Label balsa cranks. This is a great channel. Never miss the videos. Keep up the great work guys!
I know man it’s freezing outside. It’s actually 68 degrees as I’m putting the boat in the water this morning at 6:21 and it’s only supposed to get up to 80 degrees today in Central Florida. Great content guys and Happy New Year
Jimi, I am a bank angler fishing HIGHLY pressured waters in Southern California. I would like to see a video on how to use different baits and rigging techniques to get bigger quality fish.
Thanks for recommending! We have discussed doing bank fishing videos as along with kayak videos in the future. Jimi did bank fish a lot during his time in college on a highly pressured lake. He would only have his boat at school during certain months and the months he did not he would bank fish quite a bit. He mentions he thinks that made him a better angler. Thank you for watching!
In my area last week Christmas eve it was 3 degrees with 30-40 mph winds. Today its beautiful 64 degrees calm wind. Hooked up the Ranger 521C and went down to the river. Unfortunately the boat ramp is iced in. Dam the bad luck. Thanks for the video great content. I would have thrown some crankbaits today. Maybe tomorrow.
Glad you're doing more content Ryan. I usually learn something and of course it's entertaining. So is "The Bite". You guys make for some interesting conversations. Feels like we are all sitting in your living room. Good luck this year fishing MLF. Speaking of which are you in the field for any of the series Cups?
Good video sir. Fun seeing you pull out some of the old guns. If you want to be different why not throw a proven plug that's fallen out of favor? All the best.
Good informative video Mr Easterling, hope I spelled it right. I have a question though. Ive only had success in cold water with very tight wobble cranks like shad raps with the exception of the old wiggle warts. How important do you think a tight wobble is in water in the low to mid 40s?
The tight wobble does work well when the water temps get in the low 40 range. Jimi, did not mention the shad rap, since he has not thrown them any in the last few years but they work really well in the situations you brought up. He wanted me to mention to you that he threw them on his last few trips since he has seen 42-44 degree water and has had success with them. Thanks for watching!
I love the DD cranks post spawn and in the warmer months and it’s probably one of the best techniques that time of year but this time of year I just don’t have any confidence in them.
That is a great cold water crank bait. Jimi did not mention it because he has not thrown it in recent years. He did use it when he was younger. Even this day he filmed. He fished with it and caught a few fish with it. He did not want to go over this lure though since he has not had much experience with it in the recent years. Thanks for watching and sharing your experience!
Thanks Jimi. What temperature is it time to put the warts away? This year I was dealing with cold clearer water and could not buy a bite on wiggle warts.
There are a few factors to consider. Typically really really cold water you can still catch them with wiggle warts. Wind can help the bite and also slowing down the retrieve. Real slow.
This is a good topic to discuss. A lot of anglers will mention to target the sunny side, Jimi from his experience has learned that in the right locations the shaded banks work really well. The bass will actually be shallower as it is still a low light condition scenario. Thanks for watching!
That is only color you need for bass and walleye. Dark red. It is color off CRAWFIH + dark red collor is the one which bass and walleye see the best. But there is more about more staff. I think you should tell this on your video. It is more important then " I like this crack bait".
Jason Christie says to throw jerkbait in 39 degree water, you say a crankbait in 40 degrees. My front graph reads 1 degree difference then the one at the console, which do I trust? Lol
Either baits can be fished in the situation you have brought up. Most anglers prefer a jerkbait as the temps get in the low 40s to high 30s. Jason Christie is one of the best anglers in the country! He even shared a recent video where water temps were extremely cold and he started the day off with a lipless crankbait. Thank you for watching!
Jimi has been an amazing addition to the FTM team. Love listening to his knowledge!
Thanks for the words Todd!
Thank you for the crankbait help, Jimi! Good luck to you and the BFD team in he 2023 fishing season!
Appreciate you watching Christian! Good luck to you as well!

Yes sir! Thank you for watching. Happy New year!
Yeah buddy. That's some good stuff.. remember when times are tuff. Throw that jig. There is nothing like it. May the fish gods be with you!!!
Sweet! I actually recently put together a dedicated crank bait box for next year and ordered some flat sided balsa baits for the cold weather!
That’s awesome! Good luck! Thank you for watching.
Fixing to watch about 3 more times .You shared a whole boat load .Awsome video Happy New Year to every one.
Thanks Craig! Happy new year to you!
I have used the Deep Flat A for years ...Great bait.

great vid, Jimi ! Love the in-depth breakdowns you do. Happy New year and Go Dawgs !!
Thanks Mike!
Cranks!!! Forever my favorite!!! Great vid thanks!
Great! Thank you for watching!
Good Vid. You have a milder winter than us here in the mid Atlantic. December, January, February almost never have water temps above 50.
Thank you! Yes where Jimi is located weather has a mind of its own. Last week he saw 44 degree water temps. This week temps are in low 50s…
Great video Jimi. Thanks for showing all the different crack baits !!!
Your Welcome Scott! Thank you for watching!

Great info Jimi! I'll be following along from now on.
😊 Thanks for your valuable time and information 👍

Awesome video Jimi! Very insightful
This was awesome! I plan to get out next week in the cold after the rains here in Arizona. Putting the crankbait in the boat.
Great! Good luck!

MB deep six, deep X300, Z cranks, Imakatsu IK800 R2, Rapala DT and Jackall Digle 5+ are the crankbaits I usually throw during cold months
Great! Thanks for sharing.
Here in East Tennessee them Fritts side 5's and 7's are killer on edge of bluffs
They can catch them for sure! Thank you for sharing!

Your thoughts on the Rapala Shad Rap. It has been a consistent producer for me in cold water, esp. big fish.

Mike Swofford Great video

What was the reel you are using with the smaller square bills
A slower gear ratio reel. 5.0:1 or any in the 5 range.
I have a bunch of old crankers I want to try . What's your favorite brand hook to change stock hooks out to ?
We recommend Gamakatsu
Try a #5 size hook, fits most baits.
Do you target the sunny side of the lake in the winter or does it matter.
This is a good topic to discuss. A lot of anglers will mention to target the sunny side, Jimi from his experience has learned that in the right locations the shaded banks work really well. The bass will actually be shallower as it is still a low light condition scenario. Thanks for watching!
Exactly fish get use to seeing the same baits. Just gotta get those old baits back out.
That is only color you need for bass and walleye. Dark red. It is color off CRAWFIH + dark red collor is the one which bass and walleye see the best. But there is more about more staff. I think you should tell this on your video. It is more important then " I like this crack bait".
