If you download the cave story weapon mod You could use the guns in the mod and pretend it’s like a splatter shot (yes it also works with the 8 ball level)
It's more like Mario 64 in mechanics/movement but I'd say give it a try. It's not expensive and there's modded banjo levels in the game. So clearly other banjo fans have enjoyed it.
