This was very helpful. Thank you. I've been used to attack at 2 oclk release at 5 oclk but I have a new PA MC77 (1176 clone) so it's different and your vid has given me some clarity.. thx
It cones from an old saying that you have a Dr Pepper (it's a soft drink) at 10 o'clock and at 2 o'clock. So Attack set at 10 o'clock and Release set at 2 o'clock.
Thanks Greg, I never realized that the 1176 was set up the opposite of most compressors. Thanks for trying to help us make better sounding recordings, vocals are typically the weakest link in most home studio projects.
Thank you so very much. I just bought an 1176 and was a little unclear about vocal settings. Will you do more vidoes on settings for bass and drums etc?
great video. Greg is the best!
thanks for the kind words. we think so too.
Greg is someone I could listen to for hours. He’s a storyteller and his DNA is pure (no pun intended here) about music.
Gotta agree with you there! 😁

Just tried that setting - the vocal sounds more natural and open to me than the Dr Pepper setting - nice one Greg!
What settings?
Slowest attack and fastest realease

Great info Greg! What is you vocal recording input level going into the DAW -18, 14, 12...etc ? Thanks so much for your time.
Thank you so very much.

Greg is cool as hell seen him in L.A. at a waves thing they were having
Greg is my hero
Would the same settings be applied with a Distressor plugin?
I own the LIN76 from Lindell Audio and it sounds beautiful!!! I love my 1176.
just pulled the trigger on it and looked this up lol
You can't track with it. I have one.
The man is one of the greats!
Thanks helped alot
What ratio? 4:1? Hard to see if he also has 12:1 engaged as well
Looks like it's just set at 4:1 to me
Is 1176 good for tracking vocals or is it more for mixing?
It's good for both, it's a compressor so if you need to add a little bit of compression when tracking why not using an 1176!
Interesting! Always thought people preferred fast attack and fast release on vox
Fast attack will kill transient. it's only good for background vocals.
I spy with my little eye... a Behringer 8024 in the background...
..to the right to the left....wtf, just watch meter..if its going slow down means its slow release - wich is bad for most situations
It really depends on the what you're compressing. 1176 release time is program-dependent
