Baek Ayeon was a rookie in a competition. She was teamed-up with Lead Vocalist and the Main Vocalist/Leader of Korea's #1 Girls' Group/ #1 K-Pop Group overall (Tiffany and Taeyeon, who each had 5 years of intense professional experience). Taeyeon and Tiffany had performed this song to thousands of people, to overwhelming (and deserved) acclaim. They were comfortable with it---Baek Ayeon had to learn/practice everything according to the competition schedule and the time that Taeny could provide. A tough position for her to be in. This performance had to be put together without interfering with Taeny's many other commitments in a very busy year. Staging decisions had to be quick, practice time was limited, the audience would have naturally expected a great performance from Taeny, and Taeny knew they had to deliver the same. Although the performance was supposed to 'showcase' Baek Ayeon, it would have been a major 'scandal' if Taeny, as not just 'sunbaenim' but the as members of the "The Nation's Girl Group" were given simply equal time/attention, let-alone as supporting/back-up singers to their junior, despite the principle purpose of the stage. While the director and camera operators understandably paid a lot of attention to the rightfully famous 'Taeny', it is clear to me that they did so at Baek Ahyeon's expense----they kept panning or zooming past Baek Ahyeon to Tiffany or Taeyeon when they were all clearly singing together,. Taeny could perform this comfortably ---and they did. Baek Ahyeon could not--she had limited rehearsal and practice, and was in the middle of a major milestone in a competition. Combined with the understandable biases of the director and camera operators, and the other factors mentioned above, this video presents a 'showcase' for Taeny rather than Baek Ahyeon. JYP and Boa however, had a complete experience of the performance, and the extensive personal experience to fully understand the performance, in detail and in context. It's neither Taeny's "fault" , nor Baek Ahyeon's that she appears so overwhelmed and limited. She's a great singer, and with the experience she now has, she could perfom this song again, with Tiffany and Taeyeon, as an equal partner. .

And not only did she start it off in the center, but Tiffany made an effort to change their costumes so that Ayeon would stand out. It's not their fault Ayeon lacks confidence and charisma. She had numerous opportunities to showcase her talents and voice but she didn't. Her loss.
