The break in the song, where it just stops and starts in a different tempo and then slowly accelerates is CLASSIC!
Spot on, love the gradual escalation
So fun, everyone slows down and gradually speeds back up. Classic song/dance
This never feels like an old song as it is still played regularly. You can't beat the slow hand claps getting faster and faster and everyone stamping their feet at the end!
If you want a fantastic Dexys Midnight Runners song to listen to then listen to all 13 minutes of This Is What She's Like. Pure brilliance.
♥️ the official video enhances the fun, I think.
Like the below comment another must listen in Katrina and the Waves "Walking on Sunshine.
Don't worry. Nobody knows what he's saying. Haha. Dig that music tho!
Such a fantastic song. Absolute classic that gets everyone up dancing when it comes on at parties, clubs, weddings, etc. You have to stamp after the break and the re-intro. I don't think it's ever gone out of fashion.
As soon as those first notes were played, almost the whole of the UK got up to dance. It never fails, it's got one of the very best chorus lines ever and just gets better and better!
The one song thats gets everyone up and dancing at a British party.
And in Germany too😉
@@peterfromgermany2431 & Australia. 😉
And Sweden! (at least if I get to decide)
Quebec too! This shit is universal.
In America too!
Dexys are small yellow amphetamine pills. Popular in the 70s and 80s among those who frequented "Northern Soul" all nighters. Working class kids from the North West of England and Scotland would dance all night to little known Motown records imported from America. KTF was their slogan. Keep the Faith. Shout out to all the Northern Soul oldies.
Dexedrine? the Amphetamine? didn't know that. makes total sense of 'midnight runners' though lol thx
Great comment Richard!
Northern Soul, now your talking all nighter dances, straight to the local pool to freshen up at 8 in the morning, Twisted Wheel, Top of the World, The Casino, remember them all, lucazade tablets at the ready, She wore a little strip of leather hahah
Dexys come in all colours
Yes i started popping dexys when I was 12 to loose weight found a big jar of them in my parents room they worked nights so me and my sister found the stash
Unusual quirky song that brings a smile with it. It's fun to see you go from 'Ace of Spades' to 'Come on Eileen' with open appreciation of how good some of these diverse bands were. You're the bomb! Cheers from a long time subscriber.
One of the best one hit wonders of all time!
No matter what kind of day you've had, when this song comes on the radio you are INSTANTLY in a GREAT MOOD!! What a fun sounding song.
@@bfly8981 - I was a nerd too, still am. I was just a few years older than you when this song came out. I was watching it on MTV. I liked the video too. I still get excited when this song comes on the radio today. Such good memories of that time.
This song will always be the answer to a trivia question. It held the #1 Billboard spot on the US charts for the ONE week between Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" and "Beat It".
Another great and quirky song that will definitely have your toes tapping and your body moving is "Come Dancing" by The Kinks!!!
YES, PO - the Kinks is a whole 'nother "can of worms" - they have so many awesome songs!
Such a great upbeat song with a heartbreaking backstory
I'm so glad you enjoyed this song. I loved it the first time I ever heard it. Definitely a floor filler down at the club. And from The UK 🇬🇧 🇬🇧❤❤🎵🎙
And Ireland as well!
I am so happy you did this song! I love songs that uplift and put me in a good mood, and this is my absolute favorite. I was in junior high when it came out, so I've hand many years of listening to music, and nothing else gives me quite the jolt of happiness that this song give me. "Walking on Sunshine" by Katrina and the Waves is a close second, tho'. You have to react to that song if you haven't already. Perfect song for a Friday. Cheers!
This song always instantly puts me in a better mood
This is probably the song I dislike the most from the 80's. Ya...I'm the one. Just too much of it maybe.... maybe it's the overalls in the video.
Nope. I hate this song as well. I always have the distinct feeling of needing to wash or throw soap at them. They just look so dirty! And not in a good way! Ugggh! Good to know I'm not the only one!
So fun to watch y'all react to this song! Definitely one of my favorites. I can't help but dance 😊 Thanks ❤️
The week this came out Mtv, back when it was all music, played this song a ton of times, it never got old. Love this tune. Great reaction
Awesome 80s british classic 👌 👏
a blast from the past 1982 40 years ago, I still say music from the 80s need to be heard/listen to while watching the video, the lead singer say he was inspired by R&B groups
Isn't it amazing what beautiful music people can image and play?
I never realized how filthy this song was when I was a kid
Sung at top volume in every London Irish pub...with wild dancing.
Being A Fan Of Marvin Gaye,, He Wanted To Do A Tribute To Him,, But He Wouldn't Do It Until He Got It Just Right...AND HE DID!!,, Robert Palmer "Mercy Mercy Me/I Want You"...R.I.P. Marvin & Robert..Thanks For ALL You Gave Us 🙏 ❤
I wish you would have done the video, it’s so cute. One of the most fun songs of all time. They are actually a really good band. Maybe oh Geno next
Another couple of similar ones by these guys is Celtic Soul Brothers, and Geno....about the Soul legend Geno Washington. Such upbeat tunes.
And their version of Van Morrisons "Jackie Wilson Said" is quite wonderful too. As is THE Whole first album (Searchin' for the Young soul rebels)
the vocalist lived 2 roads away from me dads house bk in 80s....smethwick west midlands. song always bring instant memorys.
The joyful look on your faces. Love it. This was no.1 in the summer of 1982. Some really fun music around that time.
Check out...
Linx - Intuition
Junior - Mama used to say
Irene Cara - Fame
Imagination - Music and lights
Dexy's Midnight Runners - Geno
Haircutt 100 - Love plus one
Lovely reaction xx
Please give a listen to ‘Frankenstein’ by The Edgar Winter Group. It will blow your mind!
Bro is so stoned it's a beautiful thing. Rock out my wonderful couple!!! ❤️🤩
This is one of those songs that doesn't come to mind when you think about great songs...but it really is bc I have to move & sing along anytime I hear it...it has a special something!
Spent a large portion of my afternoon trying to find this song, not knowing the name of it or band! Great song and glad I finally found it.
I grew up in the 80s and people used to walk around the streetswith a stereo system on their shoulders banging this music out. They would have all the kids following them in Ireland. Great days really. Yes I'm Irish and we used to ask for more music lol
Love the joy on Shawn's face when the chorus lands. Very infectious
You are among the best music reactors in the game - I love how you vibe.
Gotta tell ya. Love the lid and the shirt. Go O's. If I EVER get to Baltimore, we're going to go see a game together.. You two cheer my days up. Thank you
I remember when this song came out. Filled the airwaves for months, non stop. Great song!
Great one-hit wonder! The chorus is just so damn catchy!
Dexys had another No. 1 song in their home country (UK) in 1980 with Geno ruclips.net/video/RQO2wEJefjM/видео.html, Cover of Van Morrison "Jackie Wilson Said" was Top 5 in UK ruclips.net/video/FLjlrNpKsSk/видео.html
In the UK they had several hits, There There My Dear, Geno, Come On Eileen, Jackie Wilson said,
They definitely weren't one hit wonders.
Although they had other hits in the U.K., they were a one hit wonder in the U.S.
1 hit in the USA says it all really , you missed out ,again .
Great up listening to dexys, it was in every pub ,club and house
Grew up
Ahhh 80s pubs, too much Bacardi, and coke, running the streets pissed as farts Bellowing "Too-ra Too-Rye-Ay, I'm gonna sing this song forever"
There's a video of them doing it as a promo when it first came out.
I had a crush on the banjo player.
@@maureenlyons-brennan1146 I loved the fiddler with her red hair.
It's actually called "Come on, Eileen" the comma is VERY important or it's a very different kind of song.
Shawn's permagrin....YASSSSS. Good stuff. ❤️❤️❤️
Great song to sing in the car. 😎
OH, I can't stand that guy's voice and I detest this song. JMO That one and "The Night Chicago Died". Both yucky.
I love this song and watching you two bopping to it brings a big smile to my face! Love the bird hat!
Una de las mejores canciones de todos los tiempos
Love this song from childhood ❤
We listened to it, asked ourselves "why" we were listening to it, kept listening to it, & fell in love with it.
You guys need to do the Music Video of this-an era in the 80's where things were wide open and different.
Great reaction! Dexys evolved over time. Worth checking out their early single Geno...I used to play that on repeat over and over when it first came out.
Mel, your hair color is amazing here. That caramel color is *chef's kiss* on you! You're looking like Beyonce's younger sister, girl! lol
Would loved to have seen the music video.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower (1/11) Movie CLIP check this out please!
best movie ever....
Dexys were a type of speed used in "all nighter" Northern Soul venues in the UK, hence Midnight Runners.
Being of Irish stock Kevin combined a bit of folk with the soul he was dancing to in his younger days at the "all nighters."
Brilliant song.
I don't know anyone who doesn't love this. You just have to get up and dance! 💙🎶✊
You always make me smile with your positivity and sheer enthusiasm…epic..👍
UK Hillbilly post punk madness wonderfulness! My youth! 😁🙏
Put this on at a party and watch the floor fill with dancers !
The 80's wins for the generation of most HAPPY music. There was no such thing as whiny and sad. It was energetic, bright, and great for rolling down the windows, feet out the passenger window while your best girlfriend is driving. Rolling to the beach with a 2 liter bottle of California Coolers you stole from Lil Peach on ice in the cooler. The boys on their street bikes doing wheelies on each side of the car trying to catch your attention. Wind whipping your hair, makeup free, toenails painted red to match your new little bikini. The smell of the ocean and cocnut suntan oil. Who remembers?
Shawn&Mel...another great reaction fam and you can tell how much ur into all kinds of music.I have been with you from the start and have enjoyed this ride.R.D.W
So glad u did this! Awesome 80s song! I enjoy watching you guys enjoy it!♥️♥️
i wish they would do Bananarama song.....
Such a unique fun feeling song! You two are great!
all this song reminds me of is the movie the perks of being a wallflower. my favorite movie
Such a goofy song BUT. I LOVE IT!!! I always did, always have and always will.
This song never fails to bring a smile. Enjoyed your reactions !
Thank you for your super reaction Shawn and Mel to this wonderful song! I can remeber for 'years' through the 80's: right at the 'end' of the music just before the last chorus - when the music really speeds up, the 'dance' move for this section only ... was to run on the spot as fast as you can!!😀♥♥xx
The first time I heard this song I was stationed in Germany with the U.S. Army in 1983.
I was still at school , loved 🥰 it the music 🎶 instantly recognisable and wonderful.❤
Total CLASSIC!!! 😎💯 Glad you did this one!
Check out Spirit of the West and their hit Home for a Rest about a winter in London and a little too much partying.
Y'all messed up by not doing the video. 😐🤔👎
Loved this song from the first time I heard it in the 80’s.
They also did another classic called Geno, worth listening to
Really you should see the video somehow. It's great.
Wished you could had watch the Video, this was a 80s British band
I wish you would show the original viedo, you would love it...
Love this song !! And the video to it almost brought overalls into fashion. Thank you two.
Gwen Stafani had to have been influenced by this song a little bit
You guys make this song look fun, good job 👍
I love wedding receptions. When they play The Hokey Pokey I shake it ALL about. The Chicken Dance? I'm the BEST chicken you've ever seen. But the one time they play Dexys Midnight Runners, I'm taken away in handcuffs.
😂
Nice I love I mean love this song smile on my face all the way
Another dynamite reaction from you both, thanks a million 😊
You gotta do ‘Geno’ pure class 🇬🇧
Come on, let’s go back to the 80’s and I’ll take y’all with me 😂😂😂😂
What do you call a one-legged female lead singer?
you cant help but dance or at least chair boogie
You know when a song gets people is in the head wobble. One banging tunes from the 80’s
what do you call a girl with one leg shorter than the other
This is British ‘Northern Soul’.
He has a unique voice I thought you might miss some of the lyrics.i wish you had done the video they're like a little tribe all in their denim dungarees even the girls.
I call this a cardio song.you can dance your self dizzy.
Try Geno or Jackie Wilson said next.
At the 1:11 mark, the song begins.
You have to watch the live version!
This song always brings a smile to faces..
Shame you didn't watch the video.
you should try another hit by dexy's called "Jackie wilson says"
Originally by Van Morrison, Dexy's version is better though.
Try Geno or Show Me from the same band in their earlier soul incarnation great stuff
A great blast from the blast. Love this song! It brings me a lot of joy as it used to be sung to me in my high school years - even though my name is not Eileen, lol. Still, thanks so much for reacting to this - kudos!
This is my mom‘s favorite song!! Her name is Nadine, and when she was a teenager a boy that she had a crush on changed the lyrics to her name because it rhymed with Eileen
I have always loved this song ♥ now i love you guys too and your hair looks great Mel!
I'm down on my knees Eileen!
