Agreed, If I could go back in time I would only buy gold Eagles, Buffalos, and once a year a silver Libertad. My brain still goes nuts when I pull out a gold buffalo and look at it under the light. As far as I'm concerned it's the perfect coin.

For years, I've bought just AGBs and AGEs. Because of you, I bought a dragon and couple other random coins this year. I get my kicks by purchasing cool silver coins. Far less expensive (sometimes) and it scratches that itch.

I too have sold off some of my stack and took some gains. But it was more so that I wanted to clean it up and off some spur of the moment, late night shopping pieces or random stuff that just didn't fit in my stacking direction anymore. So taking gains while cleaning the stack worked great for me. I have streamlined similar to you, eagles and the "boring stuff" is what im mostly picking up these days. I do enjoy a lunar here and there or something to spice it up a bit. But ive definitely changed the way I think about stacking.

Lately I've been on a fractional eagle run. Regularly buying 1/10 and 1/4. I just feel they will always be best for fast cash if needed.
But, the collector in me still buys old European and Central/South America gold. Just love the variety, and history.
I have absolutely no interest in any modern Gold collectable pieces, and thier crazy premiums.

I used to collect world gold. I especially loved the Peruvian 100 soles (low mintages and 1.357 oz of gold)I had about 80 ounces at my peak when gold was in the $6-700 range. Selling it was a pain. eBay took too much in fees and the local dealers only offered a price back of bid. They said that demand wasn’t there and it was hard to sell for them. Lesson learned.
Buying gold is fun, selling is not fun if trying to sell at auction or on eBay. Like This author recommends, eagles and buffalos are the most liquid, the most trusted and the smartest buy to maximize the most gold for the value. As a coin collector though, I love $20 double eagles and happily pay the higher premium for them. They take up a lot more space, don’t stack well, but they are historical and so aesthetically pleasing, IMO.

Yup, you lucky son of a gun. Any Gold Sovereign minted from the reign of Queen Victoria onwards is legal tender. The ones from earlier monarchs have been demonetized by UK law, so get treated differently for tax purposes (the legal tender ones are exempt from VAT at purchase and CGT at sale). The same VAT- and CGT-free treatment is extended to gold Britannias, which are also legal tender.

When I started, I was all over the place like a kid in a toy store, then narrowed to uniformity for said reason as well as better organized storage. Spot alerts and "sale" against premium is all i watch now for my monthly buys.

Since '08 it's always been the allure of the four 9's buffalo. The AGEs always seem kind of dingy due to the added copper. The UHRs are definitely tempting but the premium associated with the more interesting struck coins has kept us from going down that rabbit hole with gold being a store of value & hedge against debasement of the USD. That being noted, that's why we're here, to enjoy the different eye candy and live vicariously and you certainly do not disappoint! Cheers! 🤜💥🤛

Find out why you want to stack in the first place and go from there. I basically use it as a hard savings for the long term because I am a terrible saver but with stacking it easy. I focus on fractional regardless of what the internet says. It’s the easiest way for me to stack. Same game here. I’m here for the long haul, and want the liquidity of eagles. So I’m a new stacker, and have been researching the stability, the fact that all eagles are tax free where I live, and that it’s going to give better return if sold back to the LCS. And that I don’t have to get cases or special tubes for it since it is bought and sold for its weight of gold. This means my overall investment without having to get dehumidifiers, cases, tubes, grading concerns, etc means I’ll end up making more money than that numismatic intrinsic coin collector since those cases are based on the dealer’s ability to flip that item again.

Guess it comes down to your local market and exit strategy. In the recent years I've had as goal to stack at least one 1 oz coin and then the rest is whatever chance will throw at me with a bit of hunting. Realistically would you sell them all at once? IMHO not likely. For me it's a secondary retirement funding in addition to the traditional and as such I'll mostly sell one or two at a time. The local bullion dealers don't really give you a better price on uniformity it's really neglible and frankly I believe most of them can be talked to if you are to sell 311 gram of gold at once even if it's not all the same. That extremely small amount they'll give you more for 10 Krugerrands vs 5 Krugerrands and 5 Eagles (or whatever 1 oz mix) according to the list price on their website just isn't worth it compared to just buy whatever is a good deal at the time of buying. If you plan to sell privately on 2nd hand markets it's probably better not to focus on all the same as well as a mix of smaller coins - especially in smaller countries as you'll essentially flod the market and it's then very hard to get even a few pennies above what a dealer would pay. Various coins of new and old and small and large and there's almost always someone that wants that particular coin for their collection/stack.
A lot of the smaller stuff is bought at or even below spot on private markets and auctions. No way my stack would be as large as it is should I go for uniformity. Of course I could still buy the good deals and swap but that is just extremely hard getting people to do a 1-1 gold amount swap unless you have a rare coin you want to swap for boring modern bullion - and then all you end up with is a boring stack and hasn't really won anything. I've tried to sell a few rare coins I have to be able to buy more gold than the ones contain but these times it's up hill. When a finansial crisis strikes (for whatever reason) the first thing to go out the window is collectors value. I can very easily get spot for them but as said that makes no sense and just makes my stack boring.

Great information, I’m learning so much. Are you US? I’m wanting to learn more about “where” “how” to sell a few coins and how to know value in the different coins. Most I’ll hold, but will need to sell a few soon. Any guidance or suggestions or other place to learn would be very much appreciated

@@designson3968 No, not US - and you are presumable neither?
That is why I'm commenting that it is actually very dependent on your location - US videoes tends to forget that there's a world outside US. The US market is - or at least has been until a few months ago - extremely concentric about US and Canadian coins to an extreme degree so that everybody told you even if you got an extremely good deal on something else then the Eagle (whatever) is still the better buy because nobody want forreign gold. Perhaps a 50 Pesos might pass as well but other coins were no go. Markets outside US is nowhere near as concentric on a few specific items but sure popularity varies with time and location too - just not to such an extreme. Not so for me locally.
Then the argument that uniformity is also good when you want to sell... Well again that depends on your local market. In US where dealer "only" want US and Canadian coins that might be true. Elsewhere it's not the case. They might have a teeny insignificant better price if you have 10 of the same - but again most can be talked to and beside I believe that many dealers like to have a diversification in their inventory (again in contrast to US) - simply because people are different and some prefer one over the other. And as said - who sells 50 Eagles at a time? Only extremely wealthy people - the wast majority of people reading here are small paycheck stackers that struggle to buy even a full oz coin - when they start to using(selling) their gold saving - will it be a good advice to sell it all at once? Not unless you need it for somethig big like a house. Even just 1 1oz can send you on a very nice vacation. People selling so huge amounts of gold at the same time that uniformity gives (a still very small) advantage rather should buy kilobars instead to get even lower spread.
In the last month or that the US market has shiftet though. With supplies that can't cope with demand US stackers are now starting to accept other form of gold and silver - forreign gold coins (also vintage) and now silver in the form bars instead of rounds when they can't find Eagles and Maples. Exciting to see whether or not that trend stand the test of time. Whether or not it's a good thing for US non US stacker I can't decide. Now we can't have our low premium vintage and "modern vintage" coins for ourselves.

Once our current fiat begins to fade and fail, the paper markets will cease to exist and only the physical stuff will prevail, showing golds true value. Gold in 1980 was $1,000 an oz. That is roughly $3,500 in today's money.... gold is far more valuable than the current fiat number attached to it.
Silver, however, is much, much more valuable than what it is currently sitting at. Silver in 1980 was $50 an oz, which is equivalent to around $170 today... silver honestly has more upside, percentage wise, than gold currently does.
Gold being at $1810 now, moving to say $3500 is a 51% increase. But silver being just below $20 and moving to that $170 mark is a 750% increase!!! Sky is the absolute limit with this stuff! Most all of the collector today, are the ones who collected them at that time, so no new people are collecting them, so what I have now, is hard to sell, and may have to lose a lot just to get rid on them, as I do not collect anymore, except for the ones I will not sell, just like some of your coins.
So then we have gold,. If I had to start over today, I might go with just Eagles, or just bars, but not mix the two. Eagles because they are not reportable, and people love them, or bars because of the premiums, and don't have to worry about anything except spot price.
I do wish silver would get a huge boost in spot and the gold/silver ratio would get back to 60 or so, even 70, as I would love to trade a lot of my silver for gold.
And then none of what I said may have anything to do with the video... the video just made it pop in my head.

Once again very sound logical take.
But let me ask this; you're paying higher premiums for practically any government minted coinage (correct?) So to liquidate you of course (having a variety) would need to asses individually how much you had invested and go on the search as you did for buyers.
Now... While I like to grab some coins(most of mine are silver) I've arrived at the conclusion that gold is gold is gold. So why pay higher premiums on coins and not just buy reputable bars? I prefer one ounce.
For example dealers/buyers are more likely (if you live in the states) are going to want government minted gold coins due to easier to establish and assess it not being counterfeit.
so why wouldn't it be a good idea or just as good an idea to buy bars that are highly reputable like the kind bars with their holographic anti-counterfeiting measures?
I imagine they could be counterfeited but it would be less likely and especially on one ounce bars.
To sum it up if you have a couple pounds of gold you want to get rid of once it's established it's a credible source of gold regardless it seems to me you're just as well off to buy gold bars.
I would like your opinion on that. And or anyone else's. Regardless of anyone's opinion I won't be insulted because I like to get people's opinions and if I'm wrong in my thinking I'd like to establish that from my knowledge base and hearing others take on it.
Anyhow once again in good video.

@@DrSchor anything can be counterfeited. However cost and time along with quality of replication with a non extensive reproduction is an issue. Of course advancing technologies could change the but there's also the fact that the holographic kind bars are coded and could be traced along with standard gold testing.
I'm not saying you're wrong here's just a quick Google pick up stating my point.
      Can holograms be duplicated?
A hologram made by one manufacturer can be approximately replicated by a counterfeiter by simply recreating the artwork, then making a hologram from the artwork. Counterfeits made by re-mastering are rather easily detected upon close inspection if the artwork is sufficiently complicated or detailed.
