If it was released around the time TF2 went f2p(and UT2004 was f2p too) we could've seen so many YT video popularise UT04 it's crazy. But maybe it's for the better, TF2 was lucky to not be totally ruined by going f2p, but what if UT04 would end up worse on F2P model? We may never know
Teenager me rose to winning the game in Skilled, and I was so proud. 20 years later, I discover you guys beating it in Godlike… without death ?! Awesome, I didn’t even know that it was possible. Good job dude !
It sure wouldn't be possible when speedrunning, but there's at least a chance when you attempt to do maps separately. And before I did this run I wasn't completely sure if I was up to the challenge either, although I knew it was possible in principle 😉 Thanks for watching!
The Rocket Launcher in UT99 has never been matched to date. Alternate firing mode launching up to 6 rockets, either in a straight line or cluster, was absolutely nuts. Best Rocket Launcher ever.
Thank you for taking your time watching and commenting on my video. Myself, I watched all of your UT99 videos on your channel including CTF and Assault runs. There's a lot to be learned from your duel videos as well. Btw, congratulations on your 1-st place of UT99 1v1 Tournament held in 2019 in Poland. Much respect, be well.
@@w3ltschmerz actually isn't this easier to keep shield belt if you still have some armor? I believe bots are always very keen to get this so if you wouldn't take it they would probably go blindly for it what would make them easier to kill.
Do you mean wouldn't it be easier to use the shield belt as a bait to lure the bots out and to snipe them or something? Maybe it would be easier in some situations, but that would certainly be some kind of boring camping, which I tried to avoid in my run. Furthermore, if you want to make it through the map without dying, you most certainly must time shield belt and get it at every opportunity you have. And there's no way to guarantee risk-free camping when playing with several bots at the same time.
@@w3ltschmerz you got exactly what I meant. Also you are totally right that it will be boring and risky. My concern was only whether you think that it COULD be easier in some situations but I totally agree with your argumentation. At the end of the day you just wanted to do it so you chose the safest strategy possible. I won UT'99 godlike in 2012 but was never even close to of how good you are. Only Tempest took me 2 months while Liandri took me 3-4 months. So yeah - the skill is the skill. Good job! :)
Ok, so I managed to answer your question satisfactorily, good 🙂 But actually, the way I played was not the safest way possible. Now when I think back, there are ways to camp relatively safely on quite a few maps. Take a look at few of such boring but effective examples: ruclips.net/video/oX5QDw0fdSo/видео.html - Turbine ruclips.net/video/4Vx21BxiZIY/видео.html - Codex ruclips.net/video/OTNOSO0Ovks/видео.html - Pressure ruclips.net/video/6lBNDTSecYU/видео.html - Galleon ruclips.net/video/GcmasDrD9os/видео.html - Liandri ruclips.net/video/Einf9qiRAQw/видео.html - Phobos You're right, the skill is the skill, but the luck is the luck 😉 Without the latter there's no way to beat this kind of run without camping. You can trust me on that, I know 🤪
I watched the entire thing thinking "how does he make it look like so easy" despite amazing skills you got there, then I read the description and saw how long it took you to make it happen. :) Lightning Deathmatch is absolutely torturing with those bots not missing a single shot, and yes Galleon is a true nightmare. Great job!
You are absolutely right - it only looks easy when you watch it but not when you play it yourself 😵 You can actually become a little insane, so to speak, trying to beat this challenge, he-he. Despite their lack of tactics, bots are actually quite fierce with their aiming, as you correctly pointed out. And some maps out there are pure evil 👿 Thank you for enthusiastically watching the entire thing 🙂 I appreciate it.
@@w3ltschmerz It was absolutely my pleasure, this is pure gold content for years to come and I'll surely come back to this video from time to time. It's just so sad that we are not getting such great FPS titles nowadays. Thanks again, and merry fragging! 💪
You're right, there's not much to choose from in regards to FPS titles today. And if there is something, it's usually nothing like those good old games we played like 20 or so years ago. I understand, it can be a bit biased due to the nostalgic element, but looking at things that's how I feel now anyway. Of course I'm not as much into gaming today as I was before but that's partially because I can't find anything really worth playing. So here we are, playing our old favorite titles once again 🙂 By the way, you've got funny RUclips profile picture, he-he 😇
@@w3ltschmerz Agreed, and agreed more. No deep mechanics to master, no proper movements, tons of non-FPS elements and lots of skins to rip kids off rather than making a better game. Not surprising at all for us to go back to our old games where it stayed true to the roots and prioritized the gameplay over everything. Haha thanks 😄
Thank you, The Darkwavist. To be frank, I'm not planning to record any Domination ladder 'cause DOM gametype is rather uninteresting for me to play and it's not so exciting to watch. As for CTF and AS, I may do it in the future, but I'm not quite sure about it at the moment. What I am planning to do though is to record a walkthrough of a new Deathmatch ladder of this particular mod: www.moddb.com/mods/sp-ladder. It's called "Unreal Championship". The only problem is, this ladder is tough as hell, so to play it on "Godlike" difficulty without dying is a tall order. It will require a vast amount of time, so I don't even know when exactly I'm going to start playing it, but stay tuned.
Thank you for your kind comment, Milagros Gutierrez Martin. I was working real hard to accomplish this run and at times I even wondered if I could do this. Luckily, I was able to make it through. Persistence was the key. I know I'm not the best UT player out there by any stretch of imagination, but I believe this challenge would drive nuts even the strongest veterans of the game.
Thank you for watching the whole video, I really appreciate that. It was my pleasure to make this run for anyone who would like to bring back some of their 20 year-old nostalgic memories playing original UT!
I must say that thanks to guys like you in the unreal tournament community, just yesterday after sooo many years I dusted off my copy of UT99. And, of course, Inhuman or Godlike are going to be the law.
man, your skills are other level. even if the runs were in separate recordings, it's still something satisfying to accomplish, and even more with maps with many bots, with is just equal to more chances to die. and it's not only skill, luck can give you very well spawnpoints, giving you a boost start that can last up to 30 frags. congratulations
Thank you for watching and commenting on my video. Yes, even though it was not "Godlike" speedrun without deaths (which would be virtually impossible to complete), it still was VERY challenging task to accomplish. And sure thing, luck here is the basic "component" to winning as well. Not denying that for a second. I was killed so many times just at the start of the different matches, I was quite literally infuriated 🤬 Was trying hard not to smash the keyboard or something 😉
Держи: drive.google.com/file/d/1avPjpAQ1EdU1cg0sz4MI13GxHF3t7iKc/view
Yes, it took me quite a few attempts to get in there and get out before someone closes that damn door. It's difficult to do without swearing when someone closes the door in front of you at the very last second 🤬🙃
Thank you for your kind comment. I wouldn't say my Shock Rifle skills are really high but they are ok. I've seen some top players operating Shock in a way I've never been able to (at least not so consistently as they do). Anyway, have a good one.
To get top level play with the shock normal play session is not enough at a certain level (around the level you display in this video). You have to purposely try new combinaison, like you are training for it. I started experimenting with shooting the ball then turning 180 to lose sight then 180 again to hit the ball and get the kill. Doing double ball double explosion while dodging, shooting the ball from one door then hitting it for a kill from a 90 degree angle through a window or doorway, shit like this. That's how you get insanely deadly with it. This, and hundreds of hours of practice. @@w3ltschmerz
Glad that even on this video, played on an ascended level of skill I couldn't even dream of (as a lowly 'guy who cleared almost all of Adept but couldn't beat Xan'), shows that being jumpscared by Darhl and his fucking Impact Hammer is a universal constant.
Man I used to enjoy the hell out of this game in the top 2 ai difficulties when I was about 11 or 12, I tried again recently and I just can not beat them! Hats off to you, man this AI is no joke.
I used to play at godlike difficulty on 150% speed (you can adjust game speed in the option) when I was15 years old. It's funny to read your description because I came up with the exact same conclusion on the exact same maps and used the exact same 'farming'' spot. At 150%, minigun and link gun almost insta kill you against godlike bot, there is almost nothing that can be done. So going 0 death is completely out the question, you have to build insane aim skill and use every bit of map knowledge, choke points and tricks you have to get through. Playing this game made me the FPS player I am today (36 years old). I dominate in any FPS I play and I credit this to this awesome game called UT99. Everytime I see people talk about aim trainer, I'm like brooooo, just play UT99 instead, much more fun. Once you master godlike, crank the game to 110%, then 120% and so on.
Hey man, thank you for the comment. Nice to hear from old school gamers like yourself now and then (I'm 38 y.o. myself). Playing on 150% speed is quite literally insane. The most I've been playing at (competitively) is 110%. And even then I was glad to go back to 100%. He-he. Yeah, I guess UT99's aiming skills can be put to great use even in the modern day FPS gaming. Although it's hard for me to tell when it comes to the new titles, like Doom 2016 or Doom Eternal, 'cause I have a 12 y.o. GPU, which wouldn't even run those.
@@w3ltschmerz Dude that’s sad to hear! Doom 2016 and Eternal are definitely a blast. There are gaming laptop out there that can be bought for 1000 or a bit less when in sales that can run most games quite fine. I know its not tower gaming but it is great value in this day and age where decent graphic cards alone are around 1000. I hope you can get an upgrade and test these newer games, arena shooters are a thing from the past unfortunately, but you can find great fun in modern stuff too.
I use(d) the normal skillsetting instead , not the normal hardcore mode that are default - and in the in (since i were 55 years of age) set the speed to 1.075 next 1.111 ,1.125 ,114.5 -1.175 , 1.225 and last 1.27something - with this last setting bots did wierd tings - maybe it hit some bug in the engine - but i i liked that , every skill increase were noticeble even if small and all speed under 1.07 were like anyoing , 1.075 could be used for less skilled server for those who cannot improve but still have a great time
Thank you, Kevin. It was my pleasure to make this run for anyone interested in good ol' classic shooters, as well as for those of us who'd like to bring back some of their 20 year-old nostalgic memories playing UT1.
I wish there was some kind of bunny-hop or circle/strafe-jumping mechanic present in UT99, it would make the game absolutely perfect in my eyes.... Other than jumping, it's a pure masterpiece. Anyway, good job, mate.
Thank you for watching and commenting, Джонни 🙂 Actually there is a way to perform bunny-hop / bouncing in UT99, but it's based on the glitch, 'cause it wasn't intended by the programmers as in-game technique as far as I know. You can do it different ways, but the most common one is to use Impact Hammer to gain some horizontal acceleration, and right after that make use of your jump controls to keep the momentum going (you have to jump every time you're about to land on the ground). Look it up. You can also perform bouncing without the use of Impact Hammer: you can use sliding, teleporting, jumppading and boosting. As for idea of implementing Quake-like movement mechanics in Unreal, I'm not sure about that idea at all. UT99 is not Quake but a different game, and it has its own pace (which is basically slower with regards to movement). But UT, for example, has dodge mechanics, which is unique, useful and requires a skill to master. As for the game itself, it's still my favorite among all of the Unreal Tournament series, and for me no other FPS comes even close. I've played Unreal Tournament when it first came out in 1999 and I still play it to this day from time to time. It's pure classics.
@@w3ltschmerz Thanks for a quick reply mate! I'm also a long time fan, but I had no idea there's a way of maintaining speed-boost in UT99. I definitely need to master it =) Btw, did you try out the recent community patch for UT99 ? I think it's from summer 2020. Did you manage to find a difference in gameplay ?
Sure, no problem. The easiest way to perform bouncing is to set your jump controls to mouse wheel up / down. Then all you have to do is to scroll your mouse wheel the moment you're about to land. And it all becomes way easier if your mouse has "free scrolling" option. There's a map in BunnyTrack called "SlideBitch" - you can practice your bouncing skills there; it's good for the beginners. As for community patch, the latest one has just come out 3 days ago (v469b), you can find it here: github.com/OldUnreal/UnrealTournamentPatches/releases There's pretty long readme section dedicated to v469 release notes; read it. If you gonna use this version, then I recommend you using it with the latest OpenGL renderer (which comes with v469 patch) and together with HD UTX (it's because HD4K textures only work with D3D11 and D3D10 renderers), which you can download from here: sites.google.com/view/unrealhdtextures/download-hd-textures. Don't use D3D11 renderer along with v469 patch, otherwise you will have blurred fonts problem (additionally, the thing I don't like in v469b is that announcer volume now about 2 times quieter comparing to v436 / v451, and I can't seem to find the way to change it back). For the audio driver I recommend using ALAudio, 'cause it gives the most realistic picture with regards to sound positioning. As for the gameplay, it pretty much hasn't changed.
@@w3ltschmerz thanks, a lot man. I'd love to see more UT99 videos in future. Maybe some practice with custom Godlike bots? The practice menu allows to tweak bots to crazy levels, their behavior, movement patterns, favorite weapons etc. That also might be a standalone challenge I believe. For example bots are more likely to be lethal with hitscan weapons, like Sniper rifle, minigun, etc
@@LindenAshbyMK Glad to help. Actually I do plan making more UT99 videos in the future - that's why I created a playlist dedicated to Unreal Tournament 99 on my channel. I'd like to make greater contribution to this wonderful game than just completing standard Deathmatch and Challenge ladders on Godlike difficulty without deaths (which is an accomplishment in and of itself). The game is so diverse that it deserves much more than that. But I'd like to create something skillful and unique as well, and because of that it requires a decent amount of time from my part to find and accomplish such a challenge. Also I have other things to do at the moment, so I'm not going to make any promises with regards to any particular date. But I can tell you now that I already found a suitable challenge as described above. I plan to make another quality Godlike run without deaths in the future of this unique ladder: www.moddb.com/mods/sp-ladder. This ladder features 11 new DM maps: DM-Grit, DM-Closer, DM-Bishop, DM-Viridian, DM-Crane, DM-SpaceNoxx, DM-Deck16][, DM-Agony, DM-Healpod][, DM-Mojo][, DM-Morbias][. Basically, those are the popular maps (more or less), which are included in almost all 4 UT Bonus Packs: unreal.fandom.com/wiki/Bonus_content#Unreal_Tournament. I already tried this ladder before, and I can tell you that it's ridiculously hard. Maybe even 2-3 harder than the original. At least that's the impression I got playing the first map: DM-Grit. It's like the bot difficulty suddenly was cranked up through the roof. No wonder there's no Godlike run of this ladder on the whole RUclips to this date. And I mean at least Godlike run with deaths, let alone without them. So there's the level tweaking you were talking about in your last comment.
Thanks, glad you liked it. As for Peak, never in a million years would I have thought anyone would like that match. I was pretty much forced to camp all the way in that room to beat it. Otherwise there is pretty much no chance not to die at least once.
Why not! One would argue it's the most versatile UT99 weapon and the one which makes this game stand out from the rest. Of course, it's not all about Shock Rifle (for example, I didn't use it on Liandri at all) but it sure makes this game pretty much unique.
Great run, I've beaten godlike tournament on one go, but I've never tried DM without deaths, that's gonna be my next challenge in the future. Not only you need luck, but the worst is that the more you dodge and aim, bots retaliate with the same, and often target you exclusively over other bots.
Thank you for watching and commenting, Nikolay. If you're going to try DM without deaths, then you need to have plenty of free time as well as remarkable patience, so be warned 😊 And you're right, there were so many times bots targeted me instead of other bots, that I've lost count on that. Quite often bots dodged like crazy as well, which is not possible to perform for a player without some kind of dodgebot hack. Anyway, I'm looking forward for your run. Hopefully, I could watch it on RUclips as well.
@@n1kmz Wow, meaning you already are half-way through the game? Or even more so, if you're going to play Deathmatch only (no Lightning Deathmatch). Quite unbelievable. You must be insanely good if you can beat 9 maps in 1 day for this kind of challenge. And yes, you can stuck on Galleon for days or even weeks. Although I'd doubt that, if your skill is that high. I'd suggest you try beating Peak without camping, if you can take this challenge. I tried to accomplish this task for days and the most I could achieve is 15 frags without dying.
@@w3ltschmerz Yes some maps took more tries (Pressure surprisingly), some less (expected worse on Arcane Temple). For Peak, I could, if it were my kind of map, but I don't like it, too narrow for my taste.
@@n1kmz Looking forward to see your playthrough! As for maps in GOTY ladder, there are quite a few maps I don't really like: Pressure, ArcaneTemple, Grinder, Conveyor. And I really hate Galleon and Peak. But despite all of that, I did my best to make sure these maps wouldn't look too tedious and uninteresting to watch. I guess I could beat Peak without camping myself, but it could take me more than a month and I don't want to go completely nuts 🤪
"But when it comes to insults, Schopenhauer is king!" - have no idea what you're talking about. Unless you're one of those people who consider truth to be an insult. Schopenhauer was not politically correct, I'll give you that. And for that he has my deepest respects. There's enough bullshit as it is. Anyway, it's a gaming video, not a philosophy one.
By "that dude" and "beating on godlike without break" you probably mean lobo and his recently done UT99 Godlike speedrun. Yes, it was cool, but still not managing to beat UTCyborg's record: www.speedrun.com/ut99#Full_Game_Godlike Pretty close, though. Although, thinking about it again, there are some map differences between GOTY and Standard UT versions, so probably it's not the best idea to compare those speedruns directly with regard to the time aspect. Both speedruns are commendable anyway.
Thank you. Today I use Logitech G403 (set to 1000 DPI); my in-game mouse sensitivity is set to 42.000000 (together with "MouseX=Axis aMouseX Speed=0.06" and "MouseY=Axis aMouseY Speed=0.06").
1. Because I chose it that way in the preferences of the game (Weapon Hand: Hidden). 2. I'm playing PC GOTY version - it's shoving enemy names in green color by default.
Hello, Alex. Thank you for watching my video and for your comment. Let me start by saying that I was using Logitech M500 at the time I was recording this video, and this mouse is not suited for gaming, 'cause it has crappy sensor, which failed me quite a few times (look, for example, at 30:22), it also has a pretty loose wheel. And now for the fun part. Today I use Microsoft Pro IntelliMouse, which has one of the top optical sensors (PixArt 3389) and a sturdy wheel with well-defined steps, but I just can't get used to it (for me it feels somewhat uncomfortable in the game by a range of characteristics), but with M500, unlike today, I had a very basic mouse sensitivity settings (didn't even lower "MouseX=Axis aMouseX Speed" and "MouseY=Axis aMouseY Speed" parameters while increasing "MouseSensitivity" parameter for the smoother cursor movement) and actually I was playing quite well even online, managing to beat some guys who were using Razer DeathAdder V2 😆 So it's not all about "top mouse with top sensor" (which certainly helps) and not some "magical" sensitivity settings as well - you can play well even on the basic mouse (and vice versa); it's how you feel it in your hand and in the game. As for the overall mouse settings, there's also a tip for the better mouse performance I've read: to set your mouse on a relatively high DPI setting and then lower the pointer speed in your OS. And for the FOV value I use today, it's "105" (it was "106" in the video). Hope that helps.
You are welcome. And nice to know that you're getting good results using some basic mouse as well. As for playing me online, I haven't played UT99 since January the 7th - don't have much time for the game at the moment. But when I play, I almost exclusively play on the FRAG public server (its address is mentioned in the description of the video). Maybe I've played with you there before, but I'm not sure, 'cause I don't know your in-game nickname.
There were some nice close calls, turn around the wrong corner at the wrong time and you're done! ...But then nothing bad happened 😀 (I should've read the description, impressive!)
It's not just aesthetics choice. I find that white crosshair is more difficult to overshadow by the surroundings. And the crosshair size should be convenient enough to shoot distant targets as well (now I use smaller dot compared to what you see in this run).
I played this game nearly 10 years or 15 years. Specially 1999 to 2005 and later on now it is released on new HD graphics and for new windows 11. In 2006 to 2016 it was very difficult to play on windows, very difficult to find drivers or compatibility with new windows versions. Resolutions are also problem
I haven't tried UT99 on Win 11 yet, but it works ok on Windows 10. It also worked like a charm on Windows 7 for me, so I can't complain in this regard.
Lol, I stuck in the level Arcane Temple in Inhuman mode since many days but I feel than I progress after each fails, I will keep this rythme for the moment.
@@w3ltschmerz This level is hard because map's control / camping are not evident, there have many unfair spawns and I think the visibility of somes portions of this map are bad, too dark. Not to mention that sometimes for a reason than I ignore, the 1rst bot of the match takes many kills anormaly quick and put me an insane pression.
Yes, it's not a very playable map to say the least. It's better than Galleon or Peak, that's for sure, but that's not saying much. Here you just try to control the main powerups such as Belt and Amp, keeping yourself away from the lower central parts of the map, where you're an open target. And if you've got one of the lower spawns, you're off to a really rough start 'cause you've been left without Belt, Armor or Amp. In "no-death" scenario (on a higher difficulties) that means you're pretty much screwed. If you're not controlling the map, it would be difficult to keep the score on Arcane in your favor - true. But you must play Phobos (Lightning Deathmatch) to fully appreciate what it means to play against the clock. It's insanely difficult to keep the pace out there and the bots will easily overtake your progress any moment leaving you behind. Tough as hell.
@@w3ltschmerz I finally beat Arcane, flak cannon and sniper helped me so much for this level! I spend my time of the top to the map for picking the armor and flak munitions, I give up to count on the shock riffle because every time a bot pick up this weapon before me and I prefer the flak cannon for secure the upstairs. Yes the spawns in the low portions of this map are awful, you just have to pray for find the most quick possible a safe acces for the upper level of the map. Phobos, I remember, this level was hard even in Skilled difficulty, I don't imagine in Inhuman or God difficulty but I just want to say sometimes if you are unlucky the first bot can take kills very quickly and surprise you whatever the level.
There is no way this is legit godlike. Loque does not miss the way he does in this run. I urge anyone to load up UT99 on godlike difficulty and refresh any map until Loque is in the lineup. Good luck.
It's about time someone called or implied me being a cheater again 😄 If one can't read that's not my problem. Not going to justify myself, although I could met your challenge without too much of a trouble. There's no incentive for me to do that though, so I'm not gonna do that. But I gotta say I was surprised the way Xan missed his important shots at the HyperBlast - he was usually on point with his hitscan aim during other few matches I failed there. Happens sometimes too.
Pretty sure Loque in the Campaign (DM-Malevolence) is different from Loque in practice matches. Loque in practice matches has Camping set to 0, meanwhile campaign Loque based on my experience very often starts camping next to Sniper, Shock or Pulse.
Hey I'm trying a godlike difficulty deathmatch session and I am helping out with your video. I am currently stuck in arcane temple but there is 1 thing I figured. The bots you face never "dash" just like when you double tap a movement key. Why is that ?
Hello, I'm glad to hear that my video is helping you out in your tough challenge. Arcane Temple is one of the most difficult maps to beat, so it's understandable if you've stuck there for a while. With regard to the bots' movement, I really have no idea. As far as I remember, they did dodge (if that's what you mean by "dashing") in my failed attempts to beat Arcane in "no death" scenario in DM ladder. They also dodge in the practice session (checked just now). The map is pretty narrow, so maybe that's why you can't see a lot of dodging, but I can't account for "no dodging at all" scenario. Pretty strange if that's the case.
I'm sorry, but I'm not planning to do Assault in the foreseeable future. You can still watch lobo's AS run without deaths. Links are in the video description.
Thank you, Roberto. To disable Rocket Launcher smoke trails, just use NoSmoke tweak for UT. Here's the link for version 3.0: utfiles.lagout.org/Tweak/nosmoke3.zip It can disable Minigun shell traces as well, which is quite useful. I used both of those configurations while recording. It's much cleaner and less distracting that way.
Not only Arthur Schopenhauer's fan but David Benatar's as well 👍😎 Much into ethics myself. Interestingly, you have a number of videos in some of your playlists that I have in my favorite list myself. Oh, you can speak to me in Russian if you want, it's my native language.
You've understood everything correctly. unreal.fandom.com/wiki/Minigun - it says the following: "Secondary Fire Minigun is 1.43 times more fast and half as accurate".
@@w3ltschmerz If I was the one playing, I probably would have guessed that he was picking up an ammo pack either there or somewhere else nearby, since the spatial audio isn't great in this game, but then again I'm not the legend that pulled off this run lol
Yes, you can. There are still plenty of servers for this game today: www.gametracker.com/search/ut/ Using GOG version and v469d patch here. Works fine. It worked fine for me with v436 patch as well. Check out some of this guy's tutorial videos if you still can't get it running online: www.youtube.com/@UT99/videos
You thought right. Peak is the only map I was actually forced to camp to beat it (otherwise it would take eons in "Godlike no Deaths" scenario). The only reason I didn't mention it as the hardest map to beat in my video description is because you can easily camp it to win (using spam), otherwise it becomes virtually impossible to beat; all the other maps in the ladder are doable without camping, including three of the hardest maps I mentioned: DM-KGalleon, DM-ArcaneTemple, DM-Phobos. But if we're going to play Peak without camping ("Godlike no Deaths" challenge), it sure would become the hardest one (and the craziest one) to beat.
Yes, they did. If you have Bonus Pack 1 installed (same as Epic Bonus Pack), then you're going to play Arcane, Malevolence and Shrapnel instead: unreal.fandom.com/wiki/Unreal_Tournament_Single_player#Deathmatch_ladder_2
Funny how with the UT games, ecen setting the bots to max still didn't make them as fierce as the campaign I have sadly never played online due to bad internet in my country, but happy to knowing I've completed Godlike dozens on time - flawless is just insane. Biorifle spots were my go to areas always.
Dude, it's too bad you haven't got a chance to play UT online, actually it's one of the best FPS multiplayer games to this day. Hope you got a chance to play it on LAN though. Godlike challenge is fun and demanding too (when it comes to single player) - nice to know you accomplished it.

Interesting thoughts. Although I'm not sure they'll ever make new UT at all. Everything they've done to the Unreal franchise indicates exactly the opposite. One can only hope.
For the audio device, I use ALAudio. First you need to download and install oalinst.exe from openal.software.informer.com/download/ Second download and install OldUnreal multimedia patch (OMP-UT-V0.2) from www.oldunreal.com/downloads/unrealtournament/multimedia-patches/ Third open your UnrealTournament.ini and write "AudioDevice=ALAudio.ALAudioSubsystem" in the "[Engine.Engine]" category. Set the settings of "[ALAudio.ALAudioSubsystem]" according to your liking. Here you go. Hope this helps.
Are you saying that the announcer stopped working? Pretty strange. Did it work all right before? Check for your announcer volume in your audio settings. Here's my ALAudio.ALAudioSubsystem settings just in case (I use v451 of the game): [ALAudio.ALAudioSubsystem] UseAutoSampleRate=False OutputRate=44100Hz bSoundAttenuate=True UseDigitalMusic=True EffectsChannels=64 MusicVolume=64 SoundVolume=64 SampleRate=44100Hz ALDevices=DefaultDevice UseOriginalUnreal=True UseReverb=True ReverbIntensity=1.000000 Channels=64 DopplerFactor=0.000000 AmbientFactor=0.500000 OldReverbIntensity=1.000000 EmulateOldReverb=False
(Game of the Year Edition),
Neat, but why so much ignorance towards the Flak altfire? Three best things in one fire mode lol: the highest direct-impact damage in the game (unless we count the 6 rockets or the Redeemer), the second-highest splash after the combo (as the shrapnel from the explosion is still launched in a cone: it is not a newer UT game where it became pretty dull) - and also the bots have issues dodging the shell :P
Ok, trying to be self-critical here: just what exactly my "ignorance towards the Flak altfire" is? I used Flak alt pretty successfully in the game quite a few times, as anyone who carefully watched my video knows. Examples: 7:13, 7:50, 16:47, 21:36, 24:22, 28:28. Also (talking about ignorance), you're wrong: Bio Rifle alt (full charge) has even higher direct-impact damage in the game: "Charged BioRifle (at least 7 ammo) is sufficient enough to kill a player with 199 health and 150 armor". Flak is not able to do that. Links: unreal.fandom.com/wiki/Bio_Rifle#Unreal_Tournament unreal.fandom.com/wiki/Flak_Cannon#Unreal_Tournament
Damage is very random, sometimes direct hit from the alt fire is not enough to kill a bot with just 100 health, sometimes it kills them when they are 100 health, 100 armor.
@@w3ltschmerz Oh, indeed, my bad. Pretty much forgot about it, as it takes ages to charge, and as I'm mostly doing SP now, Bio instantly feels like those short fast altfire taps :) Flak, though, does all that for no additional cost, so under ignorance I mean not using it constantly :) Say, I always keep Flak above all else in the priority list, and only do non-alt if forced(?) into close combat - only alt all the time otherwise :)
I understand. So it wasn't actually ignorance on your part (in traditional sense of the word, which is referring to the "lack of knowledge") but it wasn't ignorance in that sense on my part either ('cause I knew how Flak's secondary fire works and what damage it can accomplish). Of course, there was a context which suggested that by "ignorance" you meant something else, so that's what caused semantic confusion. But if we're going to define "ignorance" your way, then I also was "ignorant" towards the Impact Hammer (135 max damage using full primary charge), Bio Rifle (1 shot 1 kill using full alternative charge), Ripper (headshotting using primary fire), etc. Just like anyone else would who didn't use "constantly" (why should they?) any particular weapon and the firing mode of someone else's choice. Also, constant Flak alt wouldn't be very interesting to watch (unless you're addicted to it) and often it's not the best weapon of choice, especially considering more open-spaced maps against bots with hitscan weapons. It's pretty obvious to anyone who's ever played UT99 on a higher difficulties.

Meaning UT2004? Sorry, never been a fan of the later Unreal games. And we never got a chance to experience the full version of UT4, which Epic canceled in 2017. What a shame.
Yep, got lucky there. Another case was on the Galleon when I also got extremely lucky (ten HP): 30:23. But I played this damn map so many times that I should have got lucky at least once!
Damn bro unreal is a really not common game that a lot of people don’t know about I’ve beaten the original on godlike before but with no deaths is actually insane
Yeah, tell me about the insanity of trying to accomplish this challenge. Especially if you made it through Arcane Temple, Koos Galleon and Phobos Moon. If you did this, you won't be the same ever again 🤪😄
And yes, you need to know every map inside out to successfully complete this kind of run. But don't worry, because you will be failing so many times in the process, that you won't have any other choice but to learn it 😉
No need. It was and still is great. It's just forgotten by the same company that developed it nearly 25 years ago. But it's not forgotten by us, the players.
Yea, an interesting observation you made - I didn't notice it myself before. If I jumped before that fall I might have taken the damage (strangely you don't take any damage if you jump from top to bottom using jumpboots)… Anyhow, thanks for watching.
😎 I remember watching Quake III Arena WCG 2002 games, and there was a really skilled player by the nickname of "Socrates". So it's not unheard of that some FPS players choose nicknames of such kind. But you can call me "Weltschmerz" if you like, that's my usual nickname 😉
I love this game, have it physical on PS2 format, which compared to PC sucks balls but it is still a great game. I can't believe people can use sniper rifle so well in a game with this movement mechanics, for me at least snipers are more easier on slow gameplay shooters, not arena shooters.
Myself, I've never played PS2 version of UT99 (or the Dreamcast version for that matter), but I saw it being played on the consoles on RUclips, and to be frank, I would agree with you. Nevertheless, I found interesting that console Deathmatch ladders have some map differences which I actually find more preferable than PC's DM ladder. Both PS2 and Dreamcast versions don't have a frigging DM-Peak in their ladders (Dreamcast version doesn't even have nightmarish DM-KGalleon), as well as they have some traditional maps (DM-Deck16][, DM-Curse][ and DM-Agony) which PC GOTY ladder doesn't have. Full info about the ladder differences: unreal.fandom.com/wiki/Unreal_Tournament_Single_player As for sniper skills, it all comes down to practice, as cliché as it may sound. But I believe there's also a limit to one's ability to play the game on a certain level. I played this game since 1999 and yet there're top sniper players who would outsnipe me 9 times out of 10. Good my competitive years ended in early 2000s 😄 Today's UT99 is all about fun anyway. Still love the game and will continue to make more videos in the future, I hope.

Yes, these new HD textures are stunning indeed... Delighted to revive some of your 20 year-old nostalgic memories. Thank you for watching.
And before I did this run I wasn't completely sure if I was up to the challenge either, although I knew it was possible in principle 😉
Thanks for watching!
The Rocket Launcher in UT99 has never been matched to date. Alternate firing mode launching up to 6 rockets, either in a straight line or cluster, was absolutely nuts. Best Rocket Launcher ever.
Indeed 👍
Best FPS ever created
Agreed. Or at least one of the best - not to be overly subjective. For me no other FPS beats UT99, that's for sure.
Good job dude. Its true dm-peak is difficult map idd. Glad that I inspired you to make this challenge 🥰
Take a look at few of such boring but effective examples:
ruclips.net/video/oX5QDw0fdSo/видео.html - Turbine
ruclips.net/video/4Vx21BxiZIY/видео.html - Codex
ruclips.net/video/OTNOSO0Ovks/видео.html - Pressure

ruclips.net/video/GcmasDrD9os/видео.html - Liandri
ruclips.net/video/Einf9qiRAQw/видео.html - Phobos
You're right, the skill is the skill, but the luck is the luck 😉 Without the latter there's no way to beat this kind of run without camping. You can trust me on that, I know 🤪
This is just commitment and you got my respect for doing this! 👀❤️
Thank you, mate!
And some maps out there are pure evil 👿
Thank you for enthusiastically watching the entire thing 🙂 I appreciate it.
So here we are, playing our old favorite titles once again 🙂
By the way, you've got funny RUclips profile picture, he-he 😇
@@w3ltschmerz Agreed, and agreed more. No deep mechanics to master, no proper movements, tons of non-FPS elements and lots of skins to rip kids off rather than making a better game. Not surprising at all for us to go back to our old games where it stayed true to the roots and prioritized the gameplay over everything.
Haha thanks 😄

Congratulations ! Hope to see the rest of the tournament ( ctf , domination , assault ) in your videos !
This is absolutely incredible. Way back when I completed the game on Godlike, and it was an absolute slog. You are a true UT master
Thank you for your kind comment, Milagros Gutierrez Martin. I was working real hard to accomplish this run and at times I even wondered if I could do this. Luckily, I was able to make it through. Thank you for watching and commenting on my video. Yes, even though it was not "Godlike" speedrun without deaths (which would be virtually impossible to complete), it still was VERY challenging task to accomplish.
Seems about right 👌 Competent observations indeed.
Glad that even on this video, played on an ascended level of skill I couldn't even dream of (as a lowly 'guy who cleared almost all of Adept but couldn't beat Xan'), shows that being jumpscared by Darhl and his fucking Impact Hammer is a universal constant.

Thank you for your kind comment, mate. Have a good one 🐱
UPD.: Bought myself GeForce RTX 4070, so modern games are now running flawlessly. Gotta check out mentioned Doom games (and some more) sometime.
I use(d) the normal skillsetting instead , not the normal hardcore mode that are default - and in the in (since i were 55 years of age) set the speed to 1.075 next 1.111 ,1.125 ,114.5 -1.175 , 1.225 and last 1.27something - with this last setting bots did wierd tings - maybe it hit some bug in the engine - but i i liked that , every skill increase were noticeble even if small and all speed under 1.07 were like anyoing , 1.075 could be used for less skilled server for those who cannot improve but still have a great time
Well played dude!
As for community patch, the latest one has just come out 3 days ago (v469b), you can find it here: github.com/OldUnreal/UnrealTournamentPatches/releases
There's pretty long readme section dedicated to v469 release notes; read it.
Excellent job mate
Gracias.
anazing run
that peak match was nice, never thought of sitting in that corner
that level used to slaughter me when i was trying to beat godlike
Thanks, glad you liked it. As for Peak, never in a million years would I have thought anyone would like that match. I was pretty much forced to camp all the way in that room to beat it. Otherwise there is pretty much no chance not to die at least once.

Godlike, indeed.
Thank you.
Man, I love those taunts from the NPCs.

Nothing is quite as satisfying as detonating the energy ball from the shock rifle dead on.
👊😈
you are loving your Shock Rifle!
@@w3ltschmerz I got to Galleon and I can tell it's gonna be a struggle there.

I was 5 when I played this game for the first time, and now I'm 25 and still play it sometimes :))
Cool 🙂
I'm really struggling to beat this game on experienced, that dude beats on godlike without break a sweet.... kudose.
Both speedruns are commendable anyway.
this is incredible. I can barely with hard difficulty. what is your mouse sensitivity?
Thank you.
Today I use Logitech G403 (set to 1000 DPI); my in-game mouse sensitivity is set to 42.000000 (together with "MouseX=Axis aMouseX Speed=0.06" and "MouseY=Axis aMouseY Speed=0.06").

what a battle for 11th frag vs Xan
Not very efficient but at least it worked out. Didn't want to lose my challenge at that point, so I played safe for eleventh frag.
Why is no weapon model showing? Why is enemy names in green and not in red?
1. Because I chose it that way in the preferences of the game (Weapon Hand: Hidden).
2. I'm playing PC GOTY version - it's shoving enemy names in green color by default.

Hi, excellent job for doing this video. I play Unreal Tournament everyday, please tell me what is your mouse settings please? POV?
@@w3ltschmerz Thanks a lot for your response, i use a basic M100 logitech and i've got good results. Hope to play against you soon !
Maybe I've played with you there before, but I'm not sure, 'cause I don't know your in-game nickname.
i'm just happy to see that it isn't just me that hates peak and kgalleon as concepts
And don't forget DM-Conveyor and DM-Pressure 😉😠

mmm white crosshair is beautiful. Will check that out
It's not just aesthetics choice.
Yeah, it's one of the most difficult (and annoying) maps in the ladder. Took me numerous attempts to beat it. Keep trying, you'll succeed.
@@w3ltschmerz
This level is hard because map's control / camping are not evident, there have many unfair spawns and I think the visibility of somes portions of this map are bad, too dark.
@@w3ltschmerz
I finally beat Arcane, flak cannon and sniper helped me so much for this level!
Cool 🙂 Continue to your Tournament. Let me know how it goes 🙂
Idk which map
But fighting Damien guy still gives me nightmare
I will be running from him everytime

🤨
Good point.

I thought Peak was definetely the hardest one on godlike. In the end I usually also camp the shield belt spot, the bots love powerups after all.

(Game of the Year Edition),
7:57 XD yeah, yeah, kill without a shoot xDDDDD
Unless you consider Flak altfire a shot!
Links:
unreal.fandom.com/wiki/Bio_Rifle#Unreal_Tournament
unreal.fandom.com/wiki/Flak_Cannon#Unreal_Tournament
Damage is very random, sometimes direct hit from the alt fire is not enough to kill a bot with just 100 health, sometimes it kills them when they are 100 health, 100 armor.
True, but the point he made was about maximum possible damage. So that's what I addressed.
GG!
Thank you!

Like u know every map like the back of your hand
Yeah, tell me about the insanity of trying to accomplish this challenge. Especially if you made it through Arcane Temple, Koos Galleon and Phobos Moon. If you did this, you won't be the same ever again 🤪😄
And yes, you need to know every map inside out to successfully complete this kind of run. But don't worry, because you will be failing so many times in the process, that you won't have any other choice but to learn it 😉
Make UT99 great again !!
No need. It was and still is great. It's just forgotten by the same company that developed it nearly 25 years ago. But it's not forgotten by us, the players.
@@w3ltschmerz Couldn't say that better. Thank you, my man.
Thank you for subscribing 🙂 Have a nice day.
Do it on Assault!
I'm not planning to do any Assault run in the foreseeable future. Sorry.
Schopenhauer?
Yes. Arthur Schopenhauer. My favorite philosopher of all time 🙂
@@w3ltschmerz max respect. You deserve my follow.
Thank you.
2:50 you got lucky down there
A little bit of luck and a lot of air control 😉 Actually, it's not that difficult to do - I did it twice during the match on Fractal.
@@w3ltschmerz also that one in galleon match there were no fall damage. I was like woah 😳. But anyway nice gameplay 👌 👍
Yea, an interesting observation you made - I didn't notice it myself before. If I jumped before that fall I might have taken the damage (strangely you don't take any damage if you jump from top to bottom using jumpboots)… Anyhow, thanks for watching.
Beating the game in godmode took me over a month and I died a lot lol
So did I 😉 I could make a whole movie out of my failed attempts 😜
Buddies name is A. Schopenhauer.... lol
😎 I remember watching Quake III Arena WCG 2002 games, and there was a really skilled player by the nickname of "Socrates". So it's not unheard of that some FPS players choose nicknames of such kind. But you can call me "Weltschmerz" if you like, that's my usual nickname 😉
23:03 you even did not throw xD
🙄
@@w3ltschmerz Ok, yes, you have right. I was drunk when I watched it.
🙃
I didn't know you could avoid the deathtrap on the third match
Glad you learned something from me 🙂

Full info about the ladder differences: unreal.fandom.com/wiki/Unreal_Tournament_Single_player
As for sniper skills, it all comes down to practice, as cliché as it may sound.
