SO SO SO glad I found your channel. Me, my wife and kids currently attend a UPC and had NO idea about all their doctrinal and theological differences and errors until VERY recently.
We were basically ambushed into a meeting and were asked what we thought about the Trinity, told we believe in 3 different Gods which CLEARLY isn’t the case, told that they would like us to to be in leadership but my wife CANT continue wearing pants in church AND outside of church. This is just the TIP of what we’ve been seeing so far.
Everything started out perfectly fine when we joined 2 years ago and I actually grew up in a Pentecostal church but I never knew their actual doctrine until I started studying the Word for myself‼️

I'm so glad I took time to hear this video! I still struggle with how people have shunned me and hiw the leader said things about me to get others not to speak to me. That's my reputation that he ruined amongst that circle. And sadly, nothing was done other than, me telling him in a meeting that I didn't agree about not trimming hair. He yelled at me for trimming my daughter's hair. He went off big time on me. He said, "didn't the church you ame from teach you anything?!" He was basically talking down to me and telling I was dumb. I told him what I read in the scriptures and told him you can't just read that verse about the headcocering, but you need to read further. And I quoted the verse to him. And he looked fit to be tied. He went and discussed other topics like the TV and watching movies. All the while sounding upset with me. I left feeling down and attacked. I told my mom about it and she said, "oh, he just loves and cares about your soul." I thought to myself, "I'd hate to see what he'd do if he hated me!" Lol! My mo just tried to smooth it out by telling me he is just watching out for me. But I saw and felt that he was being abusive with me. My mom is still under the impression that I committed some sin at church, because he said I did. This is such craziness and nonsense. I told her God knows of I did commit the shared offense.
Anyways, thank ulyou for your channel and for having Aurelio on. Alot of what he said hit home for me and my family. God bless and keep you.

Excellent interview. We had similar experiences when we left one year ago. Our desire was to honor our leadership and bring our concerns to our pastor. When we did so, we were directed to not speak to anyone else about it, and even had him forbid friends to spend time with us during that season. My husband was also told during one of the meetings that “you and your wife may survive attending a non-UPC church, but your children never will.” The fear and manipulation is so rampant in that organization, and my heart aches for the friends who are still there.
We also had a service held about us after we left that wasn’t streamed online. When my husband reached out to his previous mentor about it and said “you know me personally- you know that’s not true”, his mentor blew it off by saying “we didn’t use names!” Direction was given to the church to not associate with us, as we were “predators, and weak minded.”
The beauty of the gospel is something I will be forever grateful for. The resources provided by DeAnna Jo’s channel, as well as the Keeping It In Context one, have been so encouraging for us as we continue to grow in our walk. Following Christ instead of man is the most rewarding thing I have ever had the privilege of doing. Keep up the good work!

Thank God for bringing you out. I will always have a soft spot for my former apostolic church. However, I can't stand by their heresy. The focus is less on Christ and the actual gospel, and more on their works and spiritual gifts. So many well intentioned people are spreading a false Gospel. I will never stop praying for them. I will never stop praying that God opens up their eyes to his word.

    • @camillegrazier7188

But, here’s the thing: they believe they ARE following the word. Some of the scriptures they base their “beliefs/standards” on seem more clearer to me. Especially now that I’ve watched these videos and I think Ralph’s videos(not sure if that’s the right guy or not). One scripture comes to mind: 2 Corinthians 6:17. I’m seeing that particular scripture to mean come out of the actual worldly ways and be separate: stop the lying, cheating stealing, etc. Have a changed mind, lifestyle, attitude, etc. Not separate like the Pentecostal/ Apostolic movement.

Deanna- what you said at 42:20 is GOLD. Anyone who has lived in or been in a shaming environment (church, marriage, family) will struggle with guilt and fear 😰. They might have difficulty recognizing the negative feeling as conviction from the Holy Spirit or internal shame.

What surprised me was when I started reading and listening to trinitarians explain the godhead they used the same scriptures oneness people used. They also start with the same basic premise that there is one God. And then to think back to all the times I've heard it said they believe in three gods, that is very misrepresenting. Great interview! Very articulate! He thoroughly explains what he questioned and why. This only happens when someone honestly tries to verify things they have been taught and experienced.

And one of the Ten Commandments is:”Thou shall not bear false witness” seems that’s implicated saying Pentecostal Trinitarians believe in 3 gods /not true at all...I strive to alert Oneness Christians Trinitarians believe in One GOD for the sake of unity in the Body Of Christ Jesus ...I understand both Godhead doctrines. In fact some of our fellow Jewish Messianic Bible Torah Brethren Believers New Testament refer to the Godhead as “Compound Unity”...Jesus came to show us The Father...Just dialoguing

One of my former pastors(UPC) used to tell us not to speak badly about the Baptist church down the road from us because "they love God just as much as we do". It really bothered me that the UPC taught they were the ones with the truth and every other denomination was deceived and would be lost unless they converted and believed just like "us". I couldn't understand how a good and loving God would allow these other denominations to believe in Him, love Him, and serve Him to the best of their ability with the way they understood scripture and then on judgement day He says "surprise, you are going to hell even though you thought you were saved!" It just never made sense to me!

I've been through it all too. So much extreme pain and caught off guard. A direct assault from the pulpit. My pastor said I needed to be stripped naked or burn in hell. That's extreme.😢 However I am so glad I ran out of those doors. It took about twelve years to heal from the false guilt. Looking back I'm so glad God moved me out of that UCP church and set me free. JESUS loves us and sees everything. I was snubbed for a few years.

So much great content. The standards (laws) of the Pentecostal Church were not hard for me to overcome after I walked out of the culture. This was because (1) they are not Biblical and (2) they make no sense…and the farther I get from them the less sense they make. My hang-up was the Oneness theology; it is a subtle, nuanced twisting of perspective that is hard to reorient after decades of brainwashing and reinforcement through falsely contextualizing scripture. The cognitive dissonance one experiences when truth is discovered can be overwhelming and P.T.S.D. is common among “backsliders.” What he kept emphasizing was study of the Word. Far too many rely on the pulpit to tell them what to believe and the Sunday night shout to save them for one more week, providing their tithe has been paid. I enjoyed the interview and identified with much of what he said. I am looking forward to the next video.

The thing about different standards at different churches are you always feel like you are living in sun or judging others because they didn’t have high standards like you did. Then stricter church got stricter & refused to socialize with other churches. It just never ended! And you couldn’t do anything without asking the pastor & getting his blessing.

The UPCI church I grew up at was in and out of upc because of not wanting to pay dues and because one year the pastor wanted to have a tv. Narcissitic ministry as a description fits this church well. Only some people were expected to follow the standards and some weren’t. I was expected to follow it. Dysfunctional and controlling is the perfect way to describe this church. Really can relate to the spiritual abuse discussion.

    • @ResponsibleFaith
      @ResponsibleFaith  Год назад +1

I'm sorry you had to experience a toxic situation like that. Spiritual abuse is way more common than it should be. That's why I believe it's important for people to realize that pastors are not God's right hand men and that it's ok to use discernment with them. The idea that they always know best and are hearing directly from God about everything has caused believers a lot of problems. You can respect and love your pastor, while still assessing his behavior and teaching.

The judgemental mentality has scarred me badly. Coming from independent apostolic pentecostal church... We were the only ones who were right and others were sincerely wrong. Deep down I always had reservations about certain things like assuming a woman wearing pants didn't know the truth. It's terrible the junk I have to work through mentally. I have about 100 Oneness discussions, I used to be Oneness briefly myself back in the late 1980s. Most of my work now deals with Jehovah's Witnesses, I have 1,825 telephone / zoom discussion videos where I estimate that I've covered about 80-90% of all the Kingdom Halls here in the UK.

Yeah, the whole “dress code”: I’m in what you’d call “an absolute church”; skirts down to ankle, gotta wear panty hose or knee highs at all times(even in your own home), long sleeves at all times, high neck lines, no high hair, no wearing your hair down(in church or outside of church). If your a young girl, it’s up to individual or parents. It’s crazy. I wear what I want in my home. And the whole: even when you’re on vacation, you conduct yourself as if you’re in church. Wear the same type of clothes, hair up, etc. for fear of God and losing your witness: 😳🤦‍♀️
The “man of God” has the “power to bless/curse”: another fear tactic. These videos are real eye opening. The whole scripture “study to show thy self approved” has taken on a whole new meaning to me. The more I listen, the more I realize I’ve been “brainwashed”….🤔😱🤨😭
So then what’s the point for Acts 2:38 ? Who was Peter addressing if not ALL of us?

As far as the Godhead doctrine I understand both Oneness and Trinity but lean more towards Trinity (still One GOD) because I have a personal relationship with my Heavenly Holy ABBA Father through my Mediator Redeemer King Jesus Yeshua because of the Born-again Promise Scripture Acts2:38 The Gift Of Holy Ghost my leader teacher revealer guide and conviction. When I was attending UPC for 6yrs I never heard Preaching on The Father (that’s why UPC was recognized as “Jesus Only”. But Yeshua Jesus came to show us The Father.I have been attending Assembly Of GOD (non denomination) church the Young Associate Pastor baptizes in Jesus Name freedom in The Holy Ghost/immensely anointed power pack preaching. I think I have some people confused about me and my beliefs. I am very anti telling anyone what to believe. My husband's sister and her family spent years as missionaries in West Africa and the middle East and it never sat well with me that part of their work was telling the people they came into contact with that their beliefs were not good enough, they needed to believe like the Southern Baptists. I have had discussions with cousins about how that no one has the right to tell another that their beliefs are not good enough and have pointed out to them that I was raised to believe that no matter how often they attended church that my cousins were going to hell because they weren't UPC. It is a total turn off to me to have people trotting out their religion, love of God, etc. in everything they do as they go through their day. In my opinion, just live your life as a good person, don't smash your beliefs over others heads as you do it!
