He does his poses immediately after his workout. His workouts are to fatigue. He poses that day's workout muscles. It would make sense he would have a little difficulty holding the pose immediately after.
I think Sam is so appealing because he has the physique that every college boy wants, while also eating like a pig lol. As a young male gym goer, you probably feel justified in making not-so-great eating and diet choices, because Sam validates all of these.

Yeah I've kind of worked out my body can't hack bulking in warmer weather, it wipes me out. Being a bit colder makes stuffing food in my face much easier...

Some experienced and respected adult male needs to sit down with Sam and talk him back health. Seriously, the kid is so huge, bulked out and juiced out on steroids he is going to die long before he’s 40. He has to stop the PED’s before it’s too late.
not waking up dehydrated is very hard and I drink plenty, but I need to limit my drinking in the evening or I'll just be waking up 5-6 times a night pissing 1-2 litres. I'm not joking.
And so I always wake up dehydrated which is annoying as well, but otherwise I'd have to drink a bunch before sleep.
Greg should just adopt Sam at this point.
I usually Cringe when I see Greg ready to dis Sam but this video was even keeled and with good commentary.
I think some RUclipsrs see everything as a competition. Even though Sam is probably close to half my age, I really enjoy his videos. They are almost like the ASMR of body building. For me Sam is the Bob Ross of weight training.
Greg on the other hand is closer to my age, has more experience and great information.
I think the big thing we all need to realize is we are all different and this is not a 'one size fits all' lifestyle.
For me my so called 'gains' included losing 60 pounds so far and getting off the 'prediabetic' naughty list.
For me the difference between the bulk and cut cycle is about 2 to 4 hours, extending my typical OMAD or 3.5 hour Intermittent Fasting eat window out to 7 to 8 hours.
Here's the thing, in Utah we have the Beto's Burritos chain. Depending on the chef, I would estimate those steak and egg burritos range from 1000 maybe 1200 calories up to nearly 2000, yet I could easily eat one in a single sitting and still eat more if I wanted. This just illustrates that for big eaters like myself, we can easily top off our daily food intake even on a bulk with just two decent meals and easily maintain with one single meal.
As far as water and liquid intake, most adults should be able to read their bodies. Are you achy and cramping? Does your pee stink and look like a mix of Root Beer and Mountain Dew? If so you may need to drink more..😅 lol
Why cycle between cuts and so called bulks?
It's fun and makes things interesting and helps keep me engaged. It helps prevent boredom and feeling like I'm in a rut.
There's nothing like hitting a new max or even breaking a new recent max or seeing a new powerful bulk pump.
And then a few weeks later stripping off more fat, seeing new muscle striations and separations, especially for me coming from the obese side of things... The cut is just as exciting as the bulk for me.
The bulk and cut is 'balance', like the yin and yang of my quest to become healthier and stronger.
I've seen Greg criticizing Sam for eating a dozen donuts and a gallon of chocolate milk, and I have to agree that seems unhealthy

@@Bones469 well, I just think Sam is sending a bad message on nutrition to a lot of young men who don't spend 4 hours, or more, a day in the gym. If you eat 5000 calories a day of junk food and DON'T train for hours, you're just going to catch obesity

I'd like to talk about the flexibility issue a bit. I've always been a fairly flexible guy, I grew up doing gymnastics as a child, but stopped when I was like 13, but was able to keep most of the flexibility that comes with the sport. Within the last few years, I really started letting myself go and didn't really notice until I saw my engangement photos and was "holy crap, I'M FAT!!!". I also wasn't able to touch my toes with knees locked straight, couldn't touch hands behind my back, and overall just not flexible anymore. So I decided to start going to the gym and working out with a bodybuilders goal in mind, so maximum hypertrophy. I always emphasize the stretch, lean foward on leg curls, ass to grass on hack squat, fully strech the triceps when doing overhead triceps on a cable machine, put the dec dec in the rear delt setting to get an even bigger strech on the negative, etc etc. I am now more flexible than ever before and my damn arms and shoulders are literally bigger than my head and I look like a mini mountain.
TLDR: Because I emphasize the eccentric and streched aspect of working out with every single excesize I do, I've actually become more flexible than I ever have my entire life. I love Sam Sulek, I think he's fantastic inspiration, but I notice he never really goes for that big stretch on any excersize, hence why is not flexible, he only trains his muscles in the shortened position.
You must only watch the first 10 of his workouts.. He consistently talks abt the ‘squeeze & stretch’ at the end of a more controlled lift.. Especially if he’s going for more form than weight.
The amount i have to eat to maintain 190 at 6 foot 3 is crazy .
Lots of things we could say about Sam Sulek and Greg's commentary here... Far more often than not with clients and trainees I see heavy bulk programmes gone wrong.
It always works better with whole foods and nutrient timing adjusted and optimised around when the training happens in the day, adjusted to PEDs particularly if insulin use is in the picture, and most importantly works when the actual diet is baselined on meal plans with consistent and objective tracking on a weekly basis to adjust against.
What Sam does works and he is legit! Personally I don't like milk choices as I expect most people are lactose intolerant to some degree but I definitely like the focus on red meat as it is so much higher in micronutrient concentration than poultry and fish... Though for these sorts of reasons I can't agree with the 'food is food' attitude.
If 20%BF I wouldn't agree with full on bulking either. It is best for most at this point to 'recomp' and tidy up. If too fat it is more difficult to see what the musculature actually looks like and correctly identify the main weaker points for structuring the gaining phase or 'off seasons' training protocol.
Most successful bodybuilders who are using AAS/GH/slin will be able to benefit from more than 1g/lb-BW protein but the remarks on protein sources are correct; you need mostly animal protein sources which contain the full range of EAAs.
The 'deficit' isn't the be all and end all of burning more fat, nor is bodyweight the sole tracker of fat loss progress. With clients I like to use callipers and tape measure as well and can track fat loss progress even without implementing a deficit of calories when the foods are chosen carefully and put into meal timings effectively.
Anyway - good update on the Sam progress... I look forward to what he achieves next!

Absolutely great vid, really high quality information, probably one of Greg's best videos, I don't watch Sam because his info is usually nonsensical, and I try not to watch purely entertainment videos, but to anyone who is 20% bf and doesn't know how to start getting better shape I would suggest keeping calories/food the same and just ensure progressive overload in weights & increasing daily activity wherever possible, then after a while getting used to it decide what your goals are.

It’s MORE complicated than just eating 300+ cal to gain 1 LBS of massive. When some ppl increase calories by that much, their NEAT also increases so they have to increase calories a bit more. Some people’s NEAT can increase by 1000 calories when they even lean bulk.
OR some people are on HGH and PEDs that Jack their ghrelin (hunger) up, making them go on a fake "bulking diet".

I prefer making the chocolate milk myself, i add like 200ml of milk a large spoon worth of cacao and a medium spoon worth of honey, and yeah i prefer it savoury rather than sweet af, so it's definently much healthier than what Sam is consuming.
I think with fitness RUclips centered around extreme people, often on Peds, many great foods are left out of the picture. Cocoa is amazing. I mean. Everyone likes chocolate. 390 kcal and 20 g protein is better than you'd expect. You can add that to vanilla or cookie protein powder if you like. You can experiment with sweeteners instead of sugar or mixing the 2. I suspect most influencers wouldn't suggest that in hopes to market their protein powder. They'll also never mention pure whey. I remember a video of a guy putting whey over pasta and people were flabbergasted. Probably because they aren't aware you can just get it without added taste. Then you can pretty much add it to anything. Soup. Pasta sauce.

Just some thoughts on grip strength...The Dyno numbers are impressive, yes, but the Dyno can be misleading. What I mean is, not everyone is comfortable with them and the handles aren't always in a position that is maximized for top performance on them. This may be the case for Hooper. In an actual grip contest there are many grip guys that would beat both of those dudes, because Sam and Hooper have no idea what they're doing technique wise. You can brute strength a Dyno because there's less technique involved though. Just some thoughts. Obviously Sam has some great grip strength, but it would be cool to see what he could do on a variety of equipment to say whether or not he has a truly well-rounded grip.

I noticed after intense proper exercises, along with a diabetes friendly semi vegetarian breakfast. Your body begins craving certain food. Such as sugar. When your body craves sugar, your body is telling you it needs glycogen. When your body craves salt, it's telling you it needs electrolytes. Etc
Sam has said in his videos before when he's pumped it's hard to get the full flex sometimes.

It's ridiculous how much he struggles for extra calories, while I, when I was aiming to increase my bf%, I had no trouble eating 5,500kcal 4 days in a row (which was near 3 times my usual kcal amount) as a 135lbs/5'7" guy. I hate how high my apetite is. But maybe I'd get sick of it if I ate that much for weeks though.

onya Gregory. As a noob lifter when I started out I was told to bulk and cut to get the physique I wanted, but at the time I was FAT! Without the P, H.Thanks for pointing out the futility of bulking over 20% BF. These days I try to just keep things reasonable without going into a crazy calorie surplus, usually only eating slightly above my maintenance if I feel like I'm a bit light, as I'm not some genetic freak on PEDs.
