Excellent video Allen! Your teaching and explanation is so good. Its so easy to understand and learn from. Loss of pessure was what i had an issue with my boiler so this is really good to know. Many thanks Allen.
+max navsa Thank you for your kind words and supporting my channel 👍
Very good but when I went out too check the pipe to see if it was wet it was covered by a plastic shroud there seemed to be a plastic pipe inside the shroud couldn't really tell if it was wet didn't see any damp on the wall .I will try a few of the other things you showed us.I have an Ideal boiler 6 months old.
I like the way Alan give us all the explanations, very clear and ease to understand. Thank you very much.
You are welcome!

Excellent video Allen. Thank you for such a detailed yet easy to follow video. You have taken a lot of time to put this together in a very logical way. It has helped so much. Thank you for taking the time to make it. Excellent knowledge and advice, very much appreciated. :)
Thank you for watching 👍
Excellent and informative video. Having completed a couple of gas courses, but not qualified to take the cover off the boiler, brings back all that learning. Really well presented without over the top technical jargon gives a better understanding of my heating system. Thank you.
Thank you
What a fantastically thorough description of all the steps needed to diagnose the issue with a boiler losing pressure. Thank you so much for sharing this information in such a clear and systematic way - I really appreciate it!

Great video Allen my combi losing pressure overnight, i pressurised to 2 bar isolated the boiler as per the video ( both pipes off) and turned off and it still lost 1 bar of pressure during the night so im assuming the problem is with the boiler ? And not the heating system!
Very informative video Allen, so many different ways for a system to lose pressure, sorts the men out from the boys cracking those problems
Thank you.
glad I found this video, the high pressure on the boiler then turning the valves off is a great tip that I never thought of before, thanks for that
Thanks very much for your comment, please consider subscribing to support the channel 🙂
Great video mate very informative. I've also been caught out once or twice with the pressure rising because of a burst in the heat exchanger causing the mains to leak into the heating system and back out the PRV once it hit 3bar
Thank you 👍
Great video mate and thanks for your commitment for taking time out to put these educational videos together. You can’t beat experience good man well done mate.
Thank you.
Great information Allen, well presented. When it comes to gas boiler, always call out the qualified gas engineer, absolutely, but great to know how to troubleshoot it, saves time and money 👍
Great point!
Great info Alan , might save me taking up part of the floor👍
Happy to help, Thank you very much for watching.

Always remembering that a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing , that is why Allen recommends getting a registered engineer in to fix anything that we might have diagnosed .
the gray air valve was open for me mate so i closed it and it fixed the problem so thanks for making this video pal respect
Glad it helped
Mr Hart you are a star, very informative!
Thank you kindly
Thanks for helping me figure out it was the PRV causing the loss of pressure, sorted now and working like a new.
Can't thank you enough Allen, much appreciated.
Glad it helped
Thanks Allen, I'm now working my way through the possibilities! Cheers Potterton 33 boiler

@@AllenHart999 will and fyi I have sorted the problem by repressurising the expansion tank.
Hi Allen. Fantastic video's delivered in a no nonsense and clear manner. I wish you were in my area because I would call you for help without hesitation. I have a 12 year old Worcester combi that is losing pressure. When the heating is on 2 it is near 3 bar on the pressure gauge. The boiler has been serviced but the engineer says that it needs a new expansion vessel. Unfortunately the job can't be done until after Christmas so I am just hoping that the boiler will last for another 4 weeks or so. The Worcesters look complicated...after watching your video's I wish we had a Baxi or something similar with a more accessible vessel. Anyway, many thanks for your hard work in providing valuable information in such an honest way...you are brilliant at what you do.
Thank you.
Super helpful. Thanks your kindness in posting.
Thank you very much! Very informative! I am not an engineer but found your video very useful as I am having similar problem with my boiler! Hopefully an engineer will sort it out soon! Thank you again!

Well explained in easy to understand language with good clear video.
I fixed my high pressure gauge before calling a plumber.
Obviously if it was something more serious I would call a professional.
It is if you speak same language innit ???

Thanks for your video. Last night i used your info to work out hat the likely fault i#on my wb greenstar 42cdi is heat exchanger split. Will have saved me ripping up some lovely hard wood floors to check pipework. thanks

When checking rads and valves I always check them cold, as when they heat up the drips or small weeps can dry up. Great video, looking forward o the next. Cheers Allen.

Your video covers all the usual causes of pressure drop , clearly explained, very occasionally and you can count them on the fingers of one hand the connecting pipe between the expansion vessel and entry into the system has sludged , Vokera Linea was usually the offender .This showed up as high pressure very quickly after turning on .Checking the expansion vessel showed it to be 1 bar . Make sure you deflate the vessel though before you clean it as there is still water under pressure in the vessel.Vokera mynute range was bad for the heat exchanger leaking , back left hand corner sometimes only visible when working.or is that showing my age?
Great job
Mr hart
Well done
Thank you
Very helpful to ordinary resident to check a few system check for a leak before calling an engineer.10/10
Thank you.
Great explanation and illustration.
First comment👍Thank you for taking the time to watch. 👍
Very informative well explained I just had a new combi boiler fitted but unfortunately it was fitted to 20 plus years old radiators plus there is 12 in the house I will check all these tomorrow thanks to this video great help
Great info!
I've a 440 HiFlow that gradually drops pressure. Turns out, from the filling loop ball valve, so I've that to see to. Drops about 3/4 pint in 24hr in plastic pot, but as the unit's on the floor behind a cover, the drops normally evaporate off.
Hi Pete, Did you manage to sort it out? Thanks.
Thanks Allen. Very well presented and explained!
Glad it was helpful!

Good video, Alan. One thing I tend to do is, after recharging the exp vessel, wait 10 mins or so and recheck pressure to make sure it's holding ok, before refilling system. Looking forward to your next nugget!
Steve Williams Thanks 🙏
Steve Williams at 7:56 the auto air vent u said it has to be closed all the time???
A few months ago, my son called out gas engineer in Colchester as the boiler had shut down due low pressure. Without any testlng quoted £425 + vat for new expansion tank.
I went over to find tank Schrader valve leaking. Obviously saw him as gullible
Excellent presentation and to the point. Keep with good practice.

Absolutely So helpful . obviously I didn't try mend my boiler losing pressure but after my landlord sent plumber out and said " No problem with it!" I was able to explain the problem over the phone. Then the plummer came out again and happily followed this Very helpful video and fixed it! Yes that's what I thought too!
Thanks sir for helping my plumber ! 5**

Hi Alan. Good explanation of the possibilities you covered. However I have noticed over the last 6 months that the boiler will show zero pressure when cold, will start up perfectly normally and show 1,5 bar when up to normal temperate. IE I do not have to top up, so no leaks. That one is a mastery to me. Also the annual service for the boiler is only 6 months ago, no faults then.

Informative video, well presented!
Glad you liked it!
The only combi available that can be fitted on a open vented feed & expansion tank is an Intergas. As is the case for Intergas heat only and system boilers. Any minor very slow weeps do not stop the system from working. When changing an old boiler on a feed & and expansion tank, it may be worth while keeping it when changing to a Intergas. The Pressure Relief Valve can then be capped up. Intergas state that when fitting on a feed & expansion tank, to keep the internal pressure vessel vessel connected. Any pressure rises at the boiler will be partially absorbed by the pressure vessel as well as the feed & expansion tank.
When changing an old system from an open vented to a pressurised system leaks can be created on old joints - also some radiators can bust or balloon out and TRV valve bodies leak at the spindles, needed new valves. Keeping an old system open vented has many advantages. If it is not broke do not fix it.
Very good content Mr hart well explained keep it up
Thank you for taking the time to watch my video.

Top man!, thanks to you my customer has no choice but to pay, hes had another builder in before me and the system has been empty since January, he asked me to hang and connect up 6 Rads, and get it pressured up, but i prewarned him about possible faults on boiler because its been empty so i covered my ass, but thanks to the advice from tou about seperating the system overnight to diagnose the boiler or system im getting Payed thanks im most greatful
Thank You

Very Good explanation,, but there are so many possibilities of low pressure as per this video, to eradicate all it will cost a lot, especially inspecting all radiators.
Superbly explained. Will subscribe and learn more
Thank you.👍
Thank you Allen! helped me fix an issue with the boiler.

Good video Allen. I am not a plumber but its worth mentioning when tighten the pipes to the rads do not over tighten the nuts on the copper pipe as you can "neck" the pipe at the olive and it will never seal properly. Don't ask me how I know. My son had a pressure drop and we found a pin hole leak under the floor, pure luck that we found it. I saw another video that these can be caused by pipes not being de-burred prior to soldering.
Thank you for taking the time to watch my video.
Very good video you explain very good love your videos

Thanks Allan, very helpful video My boiler is oil fired but the pressure side and valves are much the same. I have topped up as you said and the pressure increased when hot. The expansion tank is full of water so l presume that I need to replace it.
Might just need a service.
Great video very interesting. I have had a leak on my Worcester Bosch 28 CDi for years now, had a second heat expansion vessel added because my engineer didn't want to remove original expansion vessel inside boiler case , vent valve on top of boiler replaced, have also monitored the pressure relief valve , leak is still there and have to increase back to 1.0 bar once a week on average when using central heating.
I have also noticed now and again if i tap the boiler pressure dial on the front of boiler it sometimes moves the needle. Has this been the issue all along?
I was also watching a you tube video on how to detect a leak be it wherever in the system by smell, think it was Skill Builders You Tube channel.
The suggestion made was to add something very smelly into the heating system, eg TCP? or perfume etc as long as it's not corrosive. Then in theory wherever that smell is in your house thats the place to start investigating. (Not done that yet)
My worst fear though is that the leak is under the floor boards, house was built in 1935 , foundations are non existant just bricks laid onto clay, just pure dirt under the boards, very little height available have to crawl on stomach. So would be hard I reckon to find leak, maybe a copper tubing joint is my best guess?
Fantastic - thank you - I was worried, I overfilled the boiler as the needle on the guage was slow to respond and after your very helpful video it only took a few moments to bleed the radiator!

@@AllenHart999 already have Allen. Love your vidios bro
hello allen new to your channel my boiler has been losing pressure for about 10 years. the engineer's say its leaking from the pipes in my floor which is concrete ☹ when i turn on my heating the pressure goes up to 2 and half. really enjoyed the video.

very helpful video, thanks

Thanks for the info on how to determine what's wrong with boiler. Thanks for also pointing out how dangerous it can be to mess with boilers. 👍. A little knowledge Can be dangerous. Not good when you've put new laminate down to have to maybe take it ALL up 😭😭😭😭 if not mentioned in previous videos is there any chance of mentioning 'Magna Clean' and how disconnect and refit.

Great video. The other place I’ve found a small leak is on the spindle of the 2 port motorised valve.

Thanks for posting this. Just to confirm, if I set the Baxi boiler pressure to 2 and then unplug it, turning off both 22mm flow and return pipes for the central heating and wait and watch........that should be reasonable enough to suggest an ongoing pressure drop is either related to our system or within the boiler..?
We had a Baxi, under warranty, engineer visit us due to pressure drop, slow but regular. He could find no issues each time wit h the boiler but the expansion vessel was at 0.35lb pressure. So he reinflated it.
All 8 rads have had kitchen towels underneath their valves, no leaks noted at all. A few years ago we had full 15mm copper / Hep20 piping fitted, not much of it underfloor, some run on the skirting boards. All looks good.
Doing this type of test could help to confirm whether the boiler or the system is at fault.
I assumed that the boiler might only be leaking when it is in use, something to do with the heat etc..? But, perhaps that is why you raise the pressure to 2bar..?
Thanks, and subbed :)
You are a STAR thanks.

Hi Allen, thanks for another easy to follow video, over the last 2 weeks, I've had to call out British gas engineers, but now I'm still having exactly the same problem, it just seems endless, low pressure one minute, then as you explain, high pressure the next, I've got a service plan with them, but, they still charge me £99 excess for each call out, but the problem still exists, if I had hair, I'd be pulling it out! It might be like you say, something like the pressure release valve, none of the engineers has gone outside to look to see if there's water or watermarks outside, ok, rant over, thanks again for this video, 👍
Thank You

Brilliant video mate..👍👍
Thank you.
Thank you so much for making this clear informative video Alan🙂! I’m having this exact issue now and although I don’t know the exact cause I’m guessing it’s definitely the boiler and not the heating system due to water dripping out of the external pipe outside the house. I had a costly new heat exchanger fitted beginning of last year absolutely broke me so really hoping it’s not an expensive fix. 🙏🏼
Give Baxi a call and get a fixed price repair. 👍
Turned out to be a simple fix, the expansion vessel needed pressuring. Phew 🥳
Nice one, thanks!
