Very cool , some of the best hunts ever happen when there is snow on the ground and black powder smoke in the air !! Congratulations you earned that one
Good Video! I'm a old hunter from a different era; a time when my family totally depended on me for food from the hunt. I never went forth to test myself nor to prove myself. I simply hunted for food. To this day, I make hunting for myself as easy as possible. I backpack only what I need to process my kill and lunch and water for the day. I carry my trusty 30-06, .45 caliber long colt revolver, and trusty hunting knife; and I head out solo to where the elk, mule deer and whitetail live. Using public hunting pressure to drive game animals to me, I get positioned to see what happens. Most other old timer hunters my age have aged out of hunting, so I've come up short on hunting partners. The younger hunters don't want to babysit an old hunter who is slow and unwilling to "go where no man has gone before." And yet, I've never failed to fill my tag. I'll never bow or muzzle loader hunt because its too much work for this old man. I'll leave that to the youngsters. One day, I'll fire my last shot as the good Lord calls me home. But until then, If you see an old bearded hunter hunting solo somewhere, give a wave and remember me.
Thanks for sharing this. Love all the Western Hunter videos, they helped inspire me to film hunts and youtube. Thanks to Chris and Nate for a job well done.
That was absolutely epic. I'd be willing to bet most modern elk hunters have large sized expectations considering what most old fashioned elk hunters experienced. You hunted a bull, not likely for most old time elk hunters just searching for meat. And you succeeded where most would have been frustrated and defeated. You kept going where some, if not certainly most, would have turned back and said "there aren't enough elk" or "too many predators".
I know this video is 4 years old but I rewatch it every year. Even more so this year as I’m headed to Idaho with a late season muzzleloader elk tag in November! I was wondering what brand of cows knee do you have covering your lock? I would love to have that it looks awesome and appears to provide great protection
Nate, at the intro there's a glimpse of a Glock in a Kydex shoulder holster. What brand holster is that? It looks like a good holster. I like your choice hunting with a primitive sidelock shooting black powder and a patched round ball. I took my first big game in AZ with a .54 cal TC Hawken I built from a kit. I used a self cast conical bullet with Pyrodex. It was accurate and devastating! Now, I'd like to try again with a patched round ball and black powder. This is an excellent film! Congratulations on that nice bull!
Huuuyyyyyyyyiiii me gusta su arma de cazar porque yo tengo una igual de bancarga pero de doblé cañón es la mía por los animales de Colombia son más sijilosos es más selva para q se aga la idea
Best stories and videos by far. Really enjoy the feel of them too. Refreshing from the loud, fist-pumping hunting videos. Oregon born and raised here.
Thank you!!
