Please someone tell Ignasi Terraza how much we enjoy that Bach-type canon and how we hope he will play it again and again whenever Andrea sings this wonderful song. My wife and I listen to this over and over!
I think that the way the intro evolves is the history of music itself. Just amazing.
@@richheart7990 I see what you mean. That is a really good point. I did not know what to think about the transition from Bach into discord and rhythmic complexity and some other attributes I can't exactly describe. Now I realize from your comment that it all makes sense. Thanks very much!
@@richheart7990 Rich, that is such an astute observation! I was thinking the same thing. Cheers!
I play it often. He reached the pinnacle with that Bach-like intro. A passage of stellar beauty and dignity.
@@ronkrate609 I couldn't agree more.
All the commenters, please accept: At this level of playing, there is no 'better' or 'worse' in the artists abilities. There is just a 'I like this one more' or 'I like that one less', as it is a matter of taste. Who is entitled to rank this kind of musicians? Let's just enjoy the beauty which is given to us by these incredible people.
this introduction from ignasi terraza is just brilliant
La introducción del pianista es genial, extraordinaria.
The Bach like piano intro by this marvelous blind pianist is absolutely brilliant...Ingnasi Terazza I tip my hat to you. Joan Chamarro has outdone himself with this rendition of one of my favorite jazz pieces...bravo for all you have done to refurbish jazz for this generation and for us old guys who thought perhaps jazz was dying! WRONG! In my 8th decade I have hope for jazz!
Me too. Just discovered this group and school.Bravo
I never tire of that piano intro. . .
Andrea is a total pro, spotting that tricky intro, improvising some lyrics, and nailing that solo.
She is simply the Joan of Arc of jazz!
I may not live long enough to meet all these impossibly wonderful musicians, so suffice it to say, you have all blown my mind after a life of watching, waiting, practicing, giving up, starting over and finally leaving it all to the professionals. This may be the best band of consummate musicians on the earth. Praise and thank you so much. God Bless you all. True Love ...
Ladies and Gentlemen listen to this intro and a Fantastic pianist……his name shuld be on the topp of annonsment….
My God, what a tremendous fugal intro. Is there nothing these folks can't do!
Ignasi can do anything... a genius.
Isn't it, though? Very beautiful classy rendition as is Andreas in a different way. Perhaps some do not know the song was composed by a blind English jazz composer, George Shearing to honor the Manhattan jazz club, Birdland. I saw him twice at that famous jazz venue. Andrea will no doubt perform there if she wishes...
My own sense: Andrea's talent lies substantially in Communication. I hope you take in her performance here. It was right before she had her baby. It's the great American standard by Oscar Levant.
"Blame It On My Youth."
I have never heard a more beautiful vocal rendition of Any Song. I was stunned. The subtle improvisations and matchless phrasing she has were all over that performance.
Magnificent ❤
Another very difficult piece flying above & beyond as if simply lifted on an air-stream of real art.
I love how the other musicians seem to be praying to Ignasi’s piano. It’s heavenly.
This rendition is destined to go down as one of the very best in jazz history. Talent here is overflowing.
They are good, but that statements is. a bit excessive.
One of the best "bebop" jazz group nowadays, Andrea is wonderful, both as for the voice and the trumpet (and sax) playing, and here we have as a guest Scott Hamilton, a real master sax. The piano assolo of Ignasi Terraza is astonishing with his original starting "fugue" style. The fantastic sound of this group remember me the famous words of Charlie Parker: "It's just music, it's playing clean and looking for the pretty notes".
Excelente,Ignazi Terraza, excelente Andrea Motis!!
Y gran orquesta de Joan Chamorro quintet!!!!👏👏👏👏👏👏🎶🎩🎶
Cariños desde Argentina 🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷!!!!!
Scott is a great Sax player of our time.
Jesus Christ!
Mr. Chamorro, what beauty have you introduced to the world!
I came here looking for Lullaby of Birdland. It's on of my favorites and I guess we all know the versions sung by Ella Fitzgerald, wich I thought was one of the very very few valid interpretations. No, I am not going to compare Ella to Andrea now as this would be very unfair for both of them. But let me put it this way: I have seen interpretations of well known international singers, superstars, divas, to wich only two words came to my mind: complete fail.
But back to my story. Maybe I got to say in advance I did not know any of you or the Band. Shame on me. So now, that I have been around YT looking for different interpretations than Ella's, I found this. First thing I thought was "wow, there is someone knowing how to play the piano". And while I listened, I recognized a girl on stage holdig a Trumpet. Okay, I thought. One of the musicians brought his daughter on stage to hold his Trumpet because it's too valuable to him to put it on a stand on the ground.
And, all of a sudden, the "girl" started to sing...
BOY! WAS! I! WRONG!!
I literally backfliped over the backrest of my office chair in amazement. What absolute fantastic singing! Andrea might not have the strongest voice B U T she has something much more valuable: an indescribably laid back timing and an absolute feeling for the music and control over her voice. And as I felt my bloodpressure rise, just at the right time before having a heartattac, Scott Hamilton came and put me back to normal again. Do I have to mention Andreas Trumpet playing? May be just this much: out of this world. I really can hear it's not just some well trained muscle moves, but it's pure feeling for what she is doing. She knows when to let go and when to catch it again.
Please excuse me for not mentioning all of you namely, bu I am running out of superlatives to describe what I heard and saw. It was great joy to see and hear you all, how you contributed to something that is much much bigger than the sum of its individuals. You all matched perfectly on stage and obvioulsy enjoyed yourselfs very much, at least you smling says so.
And you Sir, Mr. Chamorro, made all this possible by bringing these individuals together!
Greatly done and thank you very very much.
Yes, when watching these wonderful people make music it is the emotion, and the strength of the connection we can feel with them. It's absolutely unique.
And this is just the tip of the iceberg. Andrea developed her chops as part of The San Andreu Jazz Band. Joan is the director. By now, you must have heard of them. They are all very good, some world class--just like the people on this stage! If you haven't checked them out by now....now is your chance!
Please tell Ignasi that this intro is Masterful & Mind Boggling. Speechless !!!
So much talent on one stage!!! Another home run for Joan and company. Keep this music alive - please.
Yes, please, please, please! I live in south texas and would probably go crazy if it were not for you tube and the music I can access like Joan and company, Leonard Cohen, Astor Piazzolla, and the great U. S musicians mostly of the past. I fear Jazz is dying here in the U. S. and is being replaced by the excrement that pretends to be music.
Wow! Brilliant intro! Perfect timing on the intro vocal! This whole piece was magnificent!
I must repeat what I said a couple of months back, what a stupendous intro from Ignasi!
Isidoro
I have a good vocabulary but lack words to accurately express how brilliant Ignasi Terraza, the pianist, is.
The other bandmaster look stunned, prayer-like - knowing they are witnessing something ageless.
I have seen George Shearing perform this from the second row at the Reggata Bar in Cambridge, MA. with George Shearing! I have also been in the audience when he performed at Andover High School (with George Shearing) and, again, at the Regatta Bar in a solo performance with my wife . All were very good !
I absolutely love this one! The Bach intro is amazing. Thank you so much.
It really doesn’t get better than this. JS Bach on the keys and the rest of the band just killing it. Joan=Genius!
Ignasi deu um show incrível!
"Lillaby of birthland" is one of my favourite piece and Andrea Motis is nomber 1 💋💚👍
Please come to New York soon -
I have to write this again….God bless this pianist…..why is he so unknown??
Muy bueno muy bueno...Awesome !!!
Brilliant. Beautiful exposition.
Pure joy!!! All so wonderful... and ANDREA, not enough room to describe her lovely sound❣️
They are really on fire here, it's on the DVD, well worth buying it gets up on my big screen regularly.
This is a great rendition of a jazz standard. Joan, you should your music to the USA, if you haven’t already. Bravo.
Salud y larga vida musical !!
(Denmark) Very beautiful intro 🎹🌹
Nice jam..you all are so good, hats off to production staff..
hienointa Bach-jazzia! Ignacio! Scott Hamilton!
Has anyone seen my heart? Oh yes, I believe Miss Motis took it from me.
Love it Andrea, always to the band a cheerz..
Jazz is probably the highest form of musical creativity and you guys prove it!
@Ignasi Terrazza, the man at the Piano: I don‘t now you, but I can hear that you love Johann Sebastian Bach!
¡ Bien Bien Bien !
Andrea's voice became more mature and her trumpet sounds more confident since then.
Brutal la intro de Johann Sebastian Terraza
love the piano intro!!!!
This is such a great recording!
that was so beautiful, brings me back my first day in bird land , Times Square,NYC
I like very very much the Stan Getz Touch of the saxophonist.
Quina meravella!
Lullaby of Birdland
Oh, lullaby by birdland that's what I
Always hear, when you sigh,
never in my wordland could there be words to reveal
in a phrase how I feel
Have you ever heard two turtle doves
Bill and coo, when they love?
That's the kind of magic music we made with our lips
When we kiss
And there's a weepy old willow
He really knows how to cry
That's how I'd cry in my pillow
If you should tell me farewell and goodbye
Lullaby by birdland whisper low
Kiss me sweet, and we'll go
Flying high in birdland, high in the sky up above
All because we're in love
Lullaby, Lullaby
Have you ever heard two turtle doves
Bill and coo when they love?
That's the kind of magic music we made with our lips
When we kiss
And there's a weepy old willow
He really knows how to cry
That's how I'd cry in my pillow
If you should tell me farewell and goodbye
Lullaby by birdland whisper low
Kiss me sweet, and we'll go
Flying high in birdland, high in the sky up above
All because we're in love

IGNASI TERRAZA !! CAPO RE CAPO !!!! MUY BUENO !!!!
Be-Bach and the young lady
Wonderful!
Ignasi s prelude to a great song is remarkable.
Maravilloso!!

Grande Ignasi !
Wow!
Brilliant intro!
Pill low, she's terrific!
Unbelievable!
Terraza...you play piano !!!!!😳
Wonderful
And Scott Hamilton can run on tenor sax an impromptu equal to the Paul Desmond on alto sax.
Paul Desmond, Coltrane and Stan Getz are all different, and great, kinds of saxophonists. Scott Hamilton is wonderful in his own beautifully emotional way.
@@RalphDratman This - comparing is silly, these are all great artists.
@@themistermax Right, they are all different. There is no single scale on which they can be meaningfully compared. And right now the whole Sant Andreu/Joan Chamorro music-making community is one of my favorite things in the whole world. It is helping me stay sane.
@@RalphDratman Me, too, brother. Chamorro deserves a Nobel Prize as far as I'm concerned.
Piano quá tuyệt vời
Darn it Chamorro, you wrote that fugue?! Awesome.
Man, listening again to that it would be great to have everyone have a second solo.... the first more sophisticated and discreet, like this was, and the second more rasping, tortured and rhythmically repetitive. Basically thus was too good to be so short!!
