    Good review, we’ll balanced and a great new recipe to try too. I agree it looks great in red, I think I’ll go for that too - enough of my gear is black, let’s have a splash of colour! Been looking forward to seeing this review, hoping to see this set again in a future video.

      Thank you!
      The red will be a handsome edition to your arsenal.
      And I will be using this a lot more. Though I think pairing it with the triangle. Maybe. Not decided.
      I would have reviewed it sooner but I ordered the wrong sodding thing from Trangia and then life got busy.

    Great review - thanks! And I agree that it’s a really handy piece of equipment. I intended to use mine mostly for water, tea and coffee, but nice to see that you can actually cook on it, as well.
    And with the modularity of all Trangia products, it’s good to be able to use it with Esbit tabs, gel, spirit or gas (on the Triangle, where it actually fits perfectly). And now Trangia actually has several light and small-sized options for those who want to just boil water or cook the most basic stuff: Micro, Mini, small mess tin + triangle and kettle + triangle. All good options.
    And if you store it in a small storage bag, which I always do, then bringing the mini’s frying pan is really practical and doesn’t take too much space.

    Just got the micro myself. Not used it yet but love it’s compactness and will complement the mini. About a possible frying pan. After watching your vid I’ve just gone through my gear and found that the lid of a Snowpeak pot works well. It’ll need a strap etc as it doesn’t have the ‘click’ factor. The pot size for the Snowpeak is their 32oz. I got mine from Wildbounds, I think.

    Looks good! I like the micro I just don’t know if I’d ever rather take the micro instead of the mini if I’m going small. What I’d really love to see is trangia make is a slightly smaller kettle that I could fit inside the mini if you take out the burner stand. That way you could have a pot, small kettle, and small fry pan and just use the triangle as the stove stand. Still a great addition to the trangia lineup though 👍

    • @OffTheBeatenPot
      @OffTheBeatenPot  10 месяцев назад +1

      I agree.
      I think if they added a pan I would take it. That said. The mini is ready to go! And when paired with a small pot gripper like one from msr it’s perfect.
      A mini kettle or second smaller pot would be great to make the mini that little bit extra.

    Cool version on the pyttipanna Thom! And I think You pronounced it very good or actually excellent. Should have been there and tested your version. Best outdoor version i habe made my self, was with smoked and salted lamb steak cubed down in the pyttipanna. Tried with sweet potato but that wasn't a favorite though. Otherwise very similar. Good to see that it worked to fry an egg as well. I'm going to season my Micro pot. Great vid my friend and fun to popp up in it 😅.

    Nice review! And was just served your video thanks to a shared interest in these Trangias. Looking forward to trying some of your recipes.
    If Trangia would just make a thin windscreen that could wrap up and stow away inside the micro pot! Easy enough to make from a large soda or beer can, though. Ah well. Then we’d run out of complaints for Trangia.
    I could recommend some titanium pans from Toaks or Evernew, but trying to cook in Ti pans is such a horrible experience.

      A trangia windshield would be amazing.
      I wonder why they haven’t done that yet. Especially as it’s the windshield on their larger models that makes them so incredible.

  • @Cubestone
    @Cubestone 5 месяцев назад

    That set-up is similar to the Evernew Appalachian Set with a few significant differences. The Evernew set is titanium and weighs 200 Grams. The burner stand can take Esbit tablets, twigs, or the spirit burner. It is really efficient in it's use of fuel and a bit better wind protected. 500ml pot is rimmed to fit the stand. If I had your Trangia set I wouldn't switch, but I do have the Evernew and won't switch.

    Thanks for sharing, it looks like a natty little cookset. I liked your description of it being an analog version of the jetboil! And i guess that water boiling was the principal design purpose for this product. I like the look of it, but personally I think I'll stick with my Trangia mini as it seems better suited to cooking. Will the micro pot nestle in the mini? (Without its handle or lid if need be). Seems like it would be a useful variation and fill an unused space. (Nice to be able to make brew or two and cook at approximately the same time without washing up).

    • @OffTheBeatenPot
      @OffTheBeatenPot  Месяц назад

      Unfortunately not. It is too tall.
      But you could use a strap or a band as it will fit (diameter wise). It would negate the nice ‘clip on’ lid of the mini and make it all generally bigger.

      @@OffTheBeatenPot I bought one anyway direct from Trangia "pot micro" that has no handle on it... The lid of the mini won't quite click with the extra pot inside...but I bought the Trangia orange bag for the micro, and the mini with the extra pot inside and the mini's handle in the bag too is a snug fit (like it was made for it!) and keeps nicely together with no rattles and no significant increase in bulk. • @mikefule330
    @mikefule330 10 месяцев назад

    I have two 27s and a Mini. I am quite interested in this pan which can be bought separately so that the burner and stand from the Mini can become a Micro. However, the stand borders on dangerous in the wrong conditions. I've had a run away "jet engine" with flames to waist height. Once you start to carry a separate windshield, you may as well carry a 27 and just leave out the bits you don't think you'll use.

    • @OffTheBeatenPot
      @OffTheBeatenPot  10 месяцев назад +1

      I hear what you saying. I’ve not had it quite severe but it can flare up.
      I would disagree with you in the wind shield. Mine folds up so small that it’s no inconvenience whatsoever to use. And it does make a difference to the small flame thrower effect.
      But as you already own an arsenal of Trangia stoves. I understand why you may not want to get one.
      I ordered the pot only. But beware. There are two pots. One with a handle. One without. I ordered incorrectly the first time

    • @mikefule330
      @mikefule330 10 месяцев назад

      I'll add to my own comment, this video just inspired me to get my Mini out and boil up some water on the patio. (I use my 27 several times a year for cooking on my dinghy.) Even with barely any perceptible wind, I had to watch the flames. However, once the water was more or less boiling, I experimented a bit more with the simmer ring. On the Min (and therefore on the Micro) with no windshield, the trick appears to be be "brutal" use of the simmer ring. The lack of a windshield increases the flames, the simmer ring reduces them, and there is a sweet spot somewhere in the middle where you get to make your coffee AND keep your eyebrows.

    • @OffTheBeatenPot
      @OffTheBeatenPot  10 месяцев назад

      @mikefule330 exactly that. And you’ve nicely illustrated the point that it’s important to try things out at home first.

If they made one smaller than the micro it would just be good for boiling an egg it would be that small !. Thanks for your video. Honestly I don't like the micro at all. It is basically a cup with a lid. I never liked those small cooking pots. For me, it is just too small. You could compare it with any of these titanium cups. I am a bit disapointed, that trangia did not build a nice kit that includes a propper windscreen. Here in Germany we have a few and I even built my own once. Just a foldable windscreen that doubles as a stand. I mean they know how to built good stuff. I love my 27 doussal set, but the micro looks like a toy they needed to get on the market to compete in the ultralight segment.
    And I have another question. Do you think of a frying pan, matching the diameter of the micro? I can not imagine to fit more that half an egg inside. But I honestly never use the pan on my 27 either so I am not the right person to just. I am just curious.

      Have you tried cooking it though?
      It’s a completely different flavour.
      AND the beauty of this dish is you can chop and change it to suit.
