Miss May, This was a great video! If you struggle to post something, just hop in the car and talk to us like this, on your way to work, on your way home, after time with the Lord that gives you hope, after meetings that bring you down. Share these ups and downs, you are fantastic and we appreciate your honesty and openness, it helps for others to see the things you’re dealing with. God Bless you and thank you for this influence online!

I'm grateful for whatever teaching advice/ content you are able to put out and respect you not running yourself into the ground while doing it. You are a great gift to students and teachers. Thanks for always sharing practical teaching advice and putting so much light and peace into this world. Your advice always means more to me because you are still a real classroom teacher.

All your content is fabulous Ms May! I think it’s totally fine to revisit old topics. Sometimes things are tweaked or people need a refreshment. A morning in the life does sound great. As a mom with an autistic child, I’d love to see your tips on inclusion in the classroom too. 😊
I’m glad you’re feeling your groove again. The world definitely needs teachers like you!!

    It’s my 20th year.
I’d been feeling the burnout or uncertainty too…and I’d always loved teaching.
I think the past 3 years have simply been so taxing on teachers - so many invisible, silent, heavy burdens to carry. So much juggling (more than usual), so many demands (online, hybrid, jumping back to in-person for some)…all with the expectation that we do it smoothly & smiling. And this was on top of the usual responsibilities that can cause fatigue.
If you’re middle-aged or older the stress most likely took a physical toll, but no one was exempt from the mental & emotional places that these past 3 years took teachers.
Many are beginning to feel ok again, but it’s not bcuz all those new responsibilities have gone away. It’s because of God’s grace & mercy. He’s carrying us through.
    Thanks for sharing.

Ok, so I completely understand. I am also in the Houston area, and I have been watching my TRS like a hawk because I am SO TIRED. I just finished my Masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction, and my plan is to move on from the elementary level to teaching at the junior college level. It’s less money, but I’m ok with that because the stress of it all has just become too much. The dread was (and is) so incredibly overwhelming at times. It’s just the combination of behavior problems, ridiculous parents, and the constant lack of support from admin that has pushed me to this point. All of that to say, I totally understand. We can do it my friend. Keep sharing if you can because we’re listening! 💕

Thank you so much for sharing Miss May. I can f eel you on so many levels. I too have been struggling for the last several years and have wanted to quit so bad. I can’t say that I’m out of the struggle yet, but you give me hope that there’s light at the other side of the tunnel. I love the kids and I can’t imagine what else I would do, but I’m so exhausted! Not to mention how different kids are these days. Teaching is just harder. I’ve been teaching for 17 years in combo classrooms and I just don’t know how much longer I can hang in there.
As for content, I love everything that you put out. I especially like when you show yourself actually teaching your kids procedures or lessons. Those videos are always the most helpful to me. I struggle with classroom management this year unlike any other year. I’ve usually had pretty good classroom management, but this group of kids are a struggle.
Anyway, I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoy your weeklong break. I get out at noon today and I can’t wait!

    Favorite Book recommendations
Book reading (read stories that other teachers can let their students watch)
    Teach Lessons that other teachers could show in their class…. (For example…. What’s a verb?…. What’s a sentence?…. How to add…. How to subtract…. Etc…)

I'm a 1st grade teacher as well...I think that classroom management is important to show our newbies so keep doing those, maybe talk or show how you do small reading/ math groups, and most definitely talk about the struggle and why it's important for us not to leave, especially teachers of color. Also maybe do like you were thinking how you prepare for the day, how your class day goes. You got this I'll keep watching you and supporting you!

Hey Miss May!! I love your videos. Please don’t stop making videos! Personally, I would love to see more teaching videos. Like actual teaching lessons. There are so many teachers posting “day in the life” and I don’t really care about that lol. I want to be a better teacher. I love seeing teachers actually TEACH. One thing I would love to learn from you is how you make lessons engaging for your kids. I struggle big time with teaching my curriculum in a way that’s not boring. I know that might be tricky to do without recording your kids. I would also love to see more of your daily routines as a first grade teacher- especially MATH! Just some ideas! I’m a seasoned teacher but always trying to learn and get new ideas….I feel like my routines aren’t as smooth and predictable as they should be for my kids❤️

How to correct the mean kid mentality without breaking their spirit etc..

Maybe do videos about how to approach different severe behaviors with tier 3 students. Also, what to do with small groups and large group with tier 3 students that are struggling a lot. Also, maybe how you keep it engaging while teaching, but also teaching the curriculum. How to make Math fun when teaching it etc. I agree that teaching during covid is hard for sure! I am teaching PreK this year and it has given myself a break after last year teaching. Last year was hard for sure! The year before that was interesting bc I was 100% virtual and missed being in-person. I know after this school year, I will be recharged and I am working on time managment other things so when I go back to Kinder/First, I do better with a work/life balance. I am doing well with balancing this school year and took months to get there, but I am there now. I am working out too so then I actually do self care this yr

Several years ago, when I was drinking 3 cups of coffee per day (a LITTLE coffee in my sugar AND cream LOL), I started having migraines. Eventually vertigo hit me like a tsunami and I was knocked off my feet for a week!!! Couldn't get up for 3 days without vomiting. The doctor said I'd have to live with it and it could happen at any time. I went to an iridologist who also has a vitamin store. She told me it won't just pop up on me, as long as I do not intake sugar, creamer, black tea and caffeine. I can eat my dark chocolate but only once or twice a week. My body tells me when I have eaten too much sugar - first, I get a headache, then I start feeing the dizziness. Next, the vertigo would hit if I didn't stop eating the sugar and caffein. If this is what happened to you, just eliminate the store processed sugar and creamer, as they are loaded with junk that is hard for our bodies to metabolize. Thanks for your video. God bless you - love you! With prayer, of course, and listening to your videos over the years, I always think if Miss May can be a loving, encouraging teacher to her students, so can I. Thank you SOOO much for sharing and teaching us teachers out here how to be kind and accepting of our students. Again, thanks tremendously!!! It has helped me over the years with the lil rascals.

May you please talk about how you have been feeling with Teaching? I am a fourth year High School Spanish Teacher and I do think it is hard being a black Teacher. Our boundaries automatically translate to us "being mean/lazy/inflexible". Then administration looks at us a certain way because we have those boundaries set.
I'm planning my exit plan because my first few years of teaching I was micromanaged. I respect what you said about taking care of your body-Not just in the realm of losing weight but making sure you feel good. That resonates with me because I wake up anxious due to Teaching.

I’m so sorry it’s been hard! Keep looking to Jesus!
I think what is cool and unique about you and your RUclips videos is that you have so much experience and passion- all at the same time!
When I was in college, a lot of professors had passion but the experience side was lacking for them since they had been out of the classroom for a while, making their advice not always applicable.
The cool thing is that you have the passion (even on the hard days) and the encouragement for us to keep doing it! But you also have the experience, and you get it! So your advice is applicable!
I’m not sure if this would be too much work but I’ve seen some RUclipsrs take peoples emails/stories and talk about them. I think it would be cool if you did that except gave advice about handling different situations! Just a thought!
