Great video and some amazing footage. You've definitely put a lot of effort into getting those shots in extremely testing weather! How much extra time do you spend having to set the camera up and then riding back into the shot? Some of the long shots of you riding along must have taken quite a while.
With some shots, the camera is rolling for about five minutes. Including framing the shot and getting the settings on the camera right, it generally takes somewhere between 5-15 minutes each time I stop! 👍
I'm sitting in my apartment during COVID watching your fabulous vlog and chopping at the bit to do the same. Instead, I'm riding around my own city, Toronto and waiting for a break in the tides of time. I'm 72, very fit and raring to go.......!
Yes, Letsif, that's exactly what I'm doing too. Oh, and recovering from torn tendons in a dislocated shoulder too. I'm currently working on the bike-build for my next adventure-bike. I'm riding around Canberra's nature trails in Australia, maintaining fitness and learning more about navigating with a GPS. I truly hope that you can get out on the trails soon, Letsif.
Bro I hope you got a chance. I’m in Toronto too. Don’t listen to the fearmongers. I’ve traveled all throughout covid and it’s been fine. Latin America is very welcoming, and has been since mid 2020
I have been following you on Instagram, I cannot believe that not only are you taking breathtaking photographs, on your amazing cycle ride... You are managing to put together an incredible videos. Well done
I ran a 15km road race a few years ago around Lake Wendouree in Ballarat. It was so windy that I couldn't run without kicking myself at every step, but that head wind was another level of insane. Thanks for the video.
Lucky you. What a great way to enjoy and experience your time alive. I’m just taking baby steps into touring. Thank you for sharing your trips with us. Inspiration.
I just binged your Americas playlist. Superb work! I'm so glad that you included footage of all of the birds, lizards, snakes, spiders, butterflies and plants that you encountered along the way. You seem to have the right temperament for challenging conditions. Some of the tracks you traversed would have resulted in tears or tantrums if I'd attempted to ride them. Keep up the excellent work.
So crazy to see the Torres and Fitzroy so accessible. I backpacked and climbed there in '78 '79. No roads. El Chalten was a little one room hut with a gaucho overseeing the ranch in that area. Sold climbers whiskey, cigarettes, and polenta. Sheared sheep for a week looking up at the Torres. Wow! Enjoying the views. Really nice bike. Anxious now to see the rest of the trip. Cheers!
You are a warrior! I was in Patagonia last month and the wind was crazy...riding in headwinds is so demoralizing. Great series can't wait to follow along, just subscribed :)
During California **** park ride, you talked about spending time with your mom. I hope your mom is doing well. Take care and take all the time you need to, to be with her and taking care of her.
Absolutely loved your content and the playlist that so beautifully merges with every shot! I keep this vid in a "tour" playlist and watch pretty much a few dozen times just to live thru this again! Great work!
This is an inspirational video. You have shown me several places of spectacular beauty. Patagonia may have just become my top destination! Also, thanks for the tip: You will want to cycle traveling southernly, to benefit from the predominant southward wind. Cheers, Mate!
wow that brings lots of memories. The bust shulter must be the ones between the junktion of Toris Del Paine and Portu Natale. I passed through that valley but was early enough to make it to Portu Natale or else this would have been a great place to camp even if it is just a meter away from the road
ah man I was getting worried about the wind situation before I realised you're going south-north! Great stuff man I'm watch the rest of your videos and start planning my Patagonia adventure
I'm blown away you took the time to get content despite the amount of duress you would've been under with the wind and late nights etc. The hard work really shows, Great edit man!
when you took all the gear off and went for a ride to the Glacier, took me straight back to (back then) Calcutta after riding a few months, it makes you feel like you can ride through walls ;) P.s. i pushed for probably 10% of Spain to Portugal myself and it serves me right for knowing nothing at the time about Gulf Streams. Entertaining viewing mate
Wow!!!....the scenery is certainly to die for....but being a semi-retired musician, I really like the accompanying sound tracks .... sooo! ...could you give us some clues as to who we've been listening to....Thanks and more power to you
Thanks! The music is hard to pin down. It comes from two DJ sets which are linked to in the description, some of which is picked up by RUclips music recognition.
Hi, Alee! It was really great to meet you in El Chalten. Now Lida, Illia and me are at home. And I am looking forward to your next video, where our team rode few days and weeks ago. Have a nice and safety trip in Patagonia! And thanks for this video. I miss Patagonia
I guess you are approximately between Puerto Rio Tranquilo and maybe Villa Cerro Castillo now. How was your crossing the lake to Villa O'Higgins? And how do you like riding in Chile?
Your guess is correct! 😵 I was very lucky with the ferry. When I arrived there was a boat leaving for Villa O'Higgens. My name was way down the list for the boat the next day - I was 99% sure I wouldn't get on. But I packed my things anyway and went down to the dock. There was one seat left on the boat, but three couples ahead of me... so I walked on in disbelief. 😊
Hi, Alee! How are you? and how is your trip? I saw some photos you shared, I recognize some places, but some places I can't recognize. Where are you now? Hope you have good weather for riding without winds, rains, bad roads...
New Subscriber. Amazing adventure, dude! I dream of doing what you are doing someday. Maybe just the Patagonia part...southerly, as you say! Like to do it with my wife in retirement, if I can convince her to go to the next level with our cycling. 25 miles down and back round trip to breakfast on PCH in San Diego county on the weekend is where we are now. One can only hope!!! Keep on Trekking!
Good job again! I found your Japan video before my trip there last year. I also saw a brown bear, but fortunately wasn't attacked! Planning to cycle North to South America so looking forward to more videos of this trip!
Very beautiful! I dream of riding my bike accross Patagonia. One suggestion: drop the music brackground. I'd rather listen to pebbles rolling, the wind hitting the mic a the noise of the bike tires hitting the road instead.
Great video. If I ever am about to complain about a headwind to myself, I'll remember tis video and shut up. Are those VO Crazy Bars or Koga Denim? Your handlebar bag squeezes in there nicely between the extensions.
Friend, this video is excellent. Points for always looking sharp and causal in all these shots! I'm planning a bike tour and considering South America, this January onwards. I'd love to discuss wind direction as this has been a critical element of route planning that I've learned - and which you've mentioned - from past tours. If you have time please send me a PM to discuss. Thanks for the inspiration!
All you need to know: - Patagonia is better north-south| - Peru coastal route is better south-north - The wind blows up from the Pacific coast into the Andes, so crossing passes east-west is normally headwind. - The mountains of Bolivia and Peru are pretty much wind free!
@@Cyclingabout Thanks for the info. I wonder how to combine them all into one trip... Perhaps you'll enjoy this site and find it useful for wind maps - you can play with the date in the URL to seek historical data: earth.nullschool.net/
If you want to do it in one trip with good winds, you'd fly into somewhere like Bariloche, Puerto Montt, El Calafate and ride south to Ushuaia. You'd then fly from Ushuaia back to where you started and continue north! Alternatively, you'd ride south, but keep to the mountains through Ecuador-Peru-Bolivia. Check out www.windy.com/ for the same wind data, but much more usability.
Just the shear magnitude of it all. Seems to be a huge trade off. Solo touring with multiple camera angles, or campanion touring with awkward moments daily. Tolerance and patients would define a companion.

You could use a drone for filming yourself. You wouldn't need to cycle back.
I don't mind riding back. 😀 I've done some stuff with drones before, and they definitely take more time to set up!
Stopped at the claim of a land discovered 500 years ago! WTF! This bullshit needs to stop.😡

Spectacular scenery and the way you capture it is inspiring me to ditch my motorcycle and start riding a bicycle. Lovely 👍🏾

My man, you are a mixture of Bicycle Touring Pro and Iohan Georgiev. Keep up the good work. Excellent videos.
Spot om Marcio as I also follow both. If you type in Outback Australia theres another good fella Chris ?
I definitely see both in there. Also another good touring to watch is Ryan Van Duzer

I love getting messages about how Patagonia was in the 70s! Sounds like a truly different experience, and I wish I was around to experience it.
*this is one of the more interesting destinations on my bucket list...hope i eventually get there.. fingers, toes and eyes crossed*
It's amazing how similar that area looks to Banff/Jasper, Canada.
