Great video! As an established data scientist myself, this is definitely an accurate data science project lifecycle; however, I almost never go through all of these steps in the same day. You can spend whole days just cleaning data, tuning models, or putting things into production. The work that you do can also vary by company, some data scientists only work on part of that lifecycle just doing exploration and modeling or modeling and productionization. I have a few videos on my channel that complement this one nicely for those interested!

Buddy , its basically building a meaningfull information from the random data . And applying the information in program that will give us answers . For example , a company wants to build a coffee beverage . They will go on google and collect data relating to coffee consumption . But with cofee consumption they would also find the amount of sugar an average person drinks . Now they will find sugar consumption all over the country . But now with so much data they are having , they want to see how their customers will be attracted to the brand ? A data scientist by collecting data , will find things rhat will Ttract customers rightly to the coffee that the company is building .

Great video. You did great explaining this. That said, I would argue that it can never be overstated how extremely rigorous you must be in the earliest steps. Specifically data acquisition and cleaning. Mistakes in these steps will often corrupt every subsequent step in your research. Furthermore, it is these earliest steps that are the hardest if not impossible to correct if mistakes are found. Do some field work, say NSF or an FFRDC gives you 2 million dollars for it. Go out into the field and unknowingly bring the wrong brand of batteries for your solar panels that you don’t figure out until your back? Oh well. This seemingly tiny and innocent mistake turns a long lived project of monitoring an area into a very short lived one when the battery dies. All the clocks on your instruments are not correctly synced by gps and you have timing errors now? Now we have absolutely horrible data that needs to be cleaned! THE FIRST TWO STEPS (ACQUISITION AND CLEANING) ARE SO IMPORTANT!!!!!

Hey @Vaishnavi Kalaivanan the modeling is already very well built in to Python, I wouldn’t spend much time at all building supervised learning models from scratch. Practically, it prob won’t get you much at all-and intellectually, it might be beneficial, but data science encompasses a vast space of ideas, so idk how much more brain power you’d enhance by deriving models compared to doing other things (that are prob more interesting cus they’re unexplored territory).
I was a math major in undergrad, so I was very keen on conceptually building the mathematics from the floor up and then coding it. The model derivations, and the degree to which I learned data science theory, was at least moderately a waste of time haha. Prob a big waste. I got out of grad school almost a year ago. I’m working as a data scientist in the Bay Area and the last year I’ve spent doing practical data science/data engineering research with legitimate big data taken from the real world has been astoundingly more useful and informative than all ucla grad school combined tbh. Building general, big data projects from scratch that are built upon real-world data, and which solve relatively fresh problems, is the way to go imo, and it’s a skill whose value is very likely to continue increasing dramatically.
As in, not well-defined, perfectly understood data with known errors and limitations, but data for which there are limited apriori assumptions/knowledge but flaws which manifest as severe limitations that you have to creatively both identify and reasonably solve. Hope this helps in some way, peace out man.

Hi Shefali, thanks for watching our video. There are 3 general steps to becoming a Data scientist:
      1. Earn a bachelor's degree in IT, computer science, math, physics, or another related field
      2. Earn a master's degree in data or related field
      3. Gain experience in the field you intend to work in (ex: healthcare, physics, business).

So as someone like me who eventually one day wants to work in data science industry, is there an entry level job role that one can apply as a starting point and just get promoted/ level up to a data science in time rather than just trying to apply for a data science position from the get go? I dont mind starting at the bottom and working my way up the ladder. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi, I’m an international business student and I have a chance to sign up for elective subject as part of my curricula and one of the choices I’ve been given is data science. However, most people who have taken that choice are saying that it’s too difficult and have already given up on it. I’m doing my own research into the topic so as to make an informed decision. As an undergraduate student of international business, do I stand a chance of making it through the 3 modules of data science given my background in business?
