Depending on how you maintain it.and the color is black cour is not rusty.when you pour water on iron what happens?

It's a charcoal stove not a kerosene stove. Little use of kero was just about the best tactics to get the charcoal light up, and it ends there. The top of the stove can darken after long period of usage. I encourage to get it, it's magical

From personal experience, the best way is to start up the stove in a well ventilated place. Then take it back to the kitchen when the charcoal is lit up
