I really enjoy your channel, precisely because of the information here. I mean, I'm not sewing men's suits; but information about fabrics, (heavier is better) and sewing techniques (when and when *not* to use pinking shears) given here apply to general sewing. One can always learn more! Now don't give up on your funny video's - they go a good way in showing that Germans can have a sense of humor😉
@@m.maclellan7147 There are several but I don't watch them as my instructor teaches master kilt tailoring and that's quite specific. Search for Askival kilts if you want more info.
What a useful video, delivered in your usual charming style. Getting the cat off the work table is always a good start, regardless of how fine a cat it is!!!
Hi, you really inspired me on my menswear journey. I got my first three piece suit a week ago. It looks great and has a nice brown on beige POW check pattern.
Great video! I’m happy you mentioned the weight of fabric and how it affects the appearance and performance of the garment. A very intelligent point to keep in mind🌺
*YES - 100% AGREE...!!!* this video is going straight in my "sewing" folder for reference, traditional tailoring supplies are a nightmare for me to fin here in Bulgaria
Your advice about starting easy and building up is spot on. When I started sewing, my first project was a regency-inspired dress, because nearly all the pieces are rectangles that end up being gathered, it’s a very forgiving pattern which boosted my confidence and made me feel good enough to progressively tackle more complicated pieces. I’m the kind of person who can get discouraged easily, and failing that first project would probably have meant the end of my sewing journey !
Thank you for the list of online shops! Capsule wardrobe and colour palette are also very useful tips, it just makes everything much more flexible and versatile and minimalistic, (financially compatible). So thanks for that as well! Although I find it difficult to stick to it sometimes, especially with existing/ modern pieces, that can fit in with a vintage style (although speaking as a woman, it might be different for men, also depending on one‘s former style)

Absolutely! However, the prices when ordering directly from them as a hobbyist are high. Their fabrics do appear in the mentioned eBay shops from time to time though.
I should add to the shop list Abraham Moon & Sons fabrics, they've mostly tweeds and woolen fabrics, with some blends now and then, and very classy looking, but they're really good in my experience. and for canvas and trimming I've bought them from Dugdale Bros & Co, but I don't have mor eexperience on that XD
Moon Tweed is a mill and not a shop. You can order directly at some mills, but that is expensive if you just buy a few metres. Moon tweeds do appear in the mentioned eBay shops from time to time though and the quality is indeed supreme.
Usually you use something cheap. Of course it won't drape like a proper fabric, but that's ok. You just want to check if the pattern fits you. I mostly use Bomull from Ikea which is an unbleached cotton for 3,50€ a metre. Sometimes you can get it even cheaper.
Just so anyone wondering what his age is the reason he likes Edwardian clothes is because that is the style he started sewing when he was young and it was the new fashion.
Ist das deutsch Buch inzwischen ausverkauft? Das wäre sehr schade, denn ich bin jemand der lieber analog blättert (wo ich sonst schon den ganzen Tag IT mache).

Move the cat condo to 8 inches from the table in hope that it looks more enticing. Give up and put the cat on it. Pray the cat agrees to supervise
Omg I cant believe you accually know Sartor. As a czech I absolutly love the shop and can't recommend it enough

First, you'll need to remove the cat from the table☝️
Then, remove the cat from the table again.
Repeat every few minutes until the cat gets bored
I'm learning to be a kilt tailor and we get the best inner lining canvases from a German manufacturer. Thanks for your list.
Ooooo, that is interesting! Any RUclips channels that focus on making kilts ?!

Very good advice on the seam allowance. It also makes it possible to alter the size later just in case things get tight for some reason. Thanks.
Saving this to come back to later! love your work Bursche!
Gorgeous images you are a real Gentleman
Thanks for sharing the resources, bookmarked some of the pages!
More great info!
Thanks for sharing!
So useful. Thank you for the information.
Dugdale Bros in the UK have exceptional quality fabrics, highly recommend.

Ja, das stimmt. Habe dort ganz tolle Schurwolle gekauft (englische!) und der Schneider hat meinem Mann einen tollen Anzug genäht...
Thank you for the interesting video!
Nice website and thanks for fabric info and pattern tracing example. ❤
LOve your videos! Your book is on my wish list. Do you have a video on matching plaids and checks? Could you make one?
I put the idea on my list
My boyfriend also has the spiky wheel tho we don´t use it for tailoring

WAWAK sewing catalog is free! No fabrics though.
love it
The cat always stays on the table. Or in my case, the dog never leaves my lap.
This is helpful!!!
What is a good mock-up fabric? Or if it depends on what part of the outfit that I am making, can you please tell me what I would need for each part?

@Vintagebursche here in the USA many folks use old bed sheets sourced from charity resale shops.
I usually go to second hand shops and look for bedsheets or duvet covers. LOTS of fabric, often 100% cotton, for vile prices :D
@@Vintagebursche Thank you for answering my question.
