The Oilers are missing the youth and speed of Holloway and MacLeod, the speed of Foegele, and the intangibles of Kane. They are also missing Desharnais and Ceci. This team has actually regressed significantly from last year.

i agree, the team is older and significantly slower and due to the loss of speed their opponents are frequently beating them to the puck.

The Oilers top scoring forward McCloud 4 goal.
The Oilers top assist getter Broberg 5.
The Oilers signed 5 forwards over the age of 30 and brought in 3 D that UTAH/Arizona didn't want.
    Let that resonate.

‘88 the smallest D was Huddy at 6’0” 200lbs… everyone else was over 6’2” and just as heavy if not heavier. Size at the back end is so crucial especially when we’re talking about 2+ months of gruelling playoff punishment.

Surgery was postponed so here are some stats. Again, I can't watch the games but I can listen to them and do the summary stats.
So, 1 for 4 on the PP. It's better than 0 for 4 so it's something. Hurricanes got 1 for 2 so PK still needs a lot of work but on the plus side the boys didn't take a lot of penalties.
Edmonton out shot, did better in the faceoff circle, had fewer giveaways (and one less takeaway) and had 2 more blocked shots than Carolina. Having more blocked shots is rare (though it's still a really low number). Oilers scored first and early in both 1st and 2nd periods (2nd person was the PP one) but Connor's first goal got the crowd up I'm sure (bar down shot, effectively a 2 on 1 as a D blew a tire). Third period Carolina got two (first on PP), second at the 13:29 mark. It took a lot of OT for Aho to finally pot the winner.
When you look at the numbers above there is a glaring one for me. Bouch playing nearly 1/2 the game (over 28 minutes, I mean brutal), coach has to give him a "get out of bagging it" ticket for that one the next time he makes the players skate with the bag giving him a pass on it. Look, I know the guys are all in shape but you go out there trying to defend and also be offensive, captaining the 1PP (for FOUR power plays) and then play OT you're going to be a bit "fatigued" (politically correct speak for running on empty).
While listening to this it was like the Oilers kept shooting themselves in the foot doing bad things they've done before that went away for a little while but crept back into the game as it went on. They had the lead at the end of the 2nd but messed up from there and it got worse. Look, Carolina is a good team but the Oilers should have had 2 points in regulation not 1 point in OT. Take care all.

look closely; lot of Oilers coasting; Drais on that last goal, Nuge & Janmark on the 2nd goal - tried to look like trying but were not trying... Brown out of position.. Knobs does not have them working & is not making sure his players are fresh

Keep watching the Oil (always will...) but not totally enjoying it so far this year. Perhaps my expectations are too high for a +.500 record. Until then, I am enjoying watching the Utah club *(where expectations are not as high). C'mon Oilers. Find your heart.

Oilers best game of the season imo. Stu skinners best game of the season. The canes were just better. Better D, better goaltending, better luck. But the Oilers would win a lot of games with that same game, minus some of the obvious costly blunders. (Janmark doesn't clear, nurse watch's himself get 2 on 1'ed, McD blows the zone when he actually prevented his own D from any chance to clear the puck or get possession of it in Ot). The Pod and Jeff Skinner look legit. Got a point. Fun game to watch and the Oilers are still getting better.

The best PK in hockey, the best PP in hockey, lots of speed, incredible speed, youth, one goal away from winning the stanley cup. So lets gut one of the greatest teams in NHL history and get rid of half of the players on this great team. This is the bowman/jackson plan and they did a great job. Now, the Oilers are just another team.... These traitors, jackson and bowman need to be fired. This is hockey treason.

Very frustrating loss. It feels like they were searching for ways to lose. Stu deserved better! It normally would not matter if we were 30-40-50 games into the season, but it is enraging that how they insist on filling the fanbase with maximum doubt early on. Are we slow? Can we finish? are we tough enough? Do we miss the handful of youth who is knocking it out of the park early this season on other teams?
Do McDavid and drai actually hate scoring? Shoot in scoring positions ffs! 97 had 2 or 3 shots n 2 goals. 3rd period. Let’s defer to passing into coverage, why do I want a hatty?
Does everybody who is snakebitten thinking passing into the net will eventually be the best strategy!
Leon is a hinderance right now. Shit attitude. Terrible passing that occasionally click. Hyman sold his soul to the devil last season. May never score again. Nuge is the undead.
I like knobs. But he fail fail FAILED to have this team ready for the season! Preseason was a joke. We lost 1/3 of the team! Teach them the system.
Look it sucks we lost the cup but F&@kin wake up!
And today was our best game!
    Haha

actually we have scored 1 more than SJ so far... and have let in 2 less..... so we are slightly ahead of SJ.
Plus/Minus tells a lot.... if team is winning or losing vs opponent when on the ice... Stecher is +0 so that is good-
and Arvidsson and Perry are +1 -so we have some wonderful individual success's.

David- is getting increasingly rude & basically disinterested.. wanting to wrap up in a bow in a few mins and go on a bike ride or something. Bruce has great insights and most of us like to hear those insights including about players like McLeod & Broberg etc... and amazing stats -they only left recently and is a look at the management etc etc Hoping David rediscovers his patience and passion

This is beginning to look really bad. Oiler management have completely swung the pendulum in the direction of having a veteran laden lineup. Look at the roster there is absolutely no youth in this lineup. The Oiler brain trust completely bungled the management of our youth and we are now fully invested in this veteran squad and early returns do not look good.
