Check out our first look video at the Harbor Freight Black Widow Trigger Style Airbrush! I was intrigued by its fan cap feature that distributes paint in a long oval pattern similar to a traditional paint gun but on a smaller scale. In this video, I connected the Black Widow airbrush to my Black Widow compressor, enhancing the painting experience. This airbrush offers various options like different fluid tanks and four fluid caps with needles in sizes .3 mm and .5 mm. Despite its great design and durability, I encountered an issue with the spray pattern, with the top receiving more paint than the bottom. I shall investigate further to identify the problem, but I might exchange it for a new one. Join me every Thursday night at 7 PM California time on our live sessions to witness the performance of the Black Widow Airbrush and the Harbor Freight Black Widow Compressor in action. seems like the higher pressure is messing up the pattern, interested to see if lowering it changes things.
I've been airbrushing for over 20 years and the first thing I noticed that he's doing wrong is he's painting with a 5 mm nozzle with watered down thin paint at high pressure bro you need to use a little bit thicker paint more of a consistency of milk and lower psi try it again. Use some createx wicked paints right off the bottle should spray perfect with that needle and fan I am using a grexs .7 mm and .5mm needle with that paint and get perfect sprays
Cool 😎 mine should be here Thursday.... Want to see how the .3 fan cap sprays 2k clear
How much are they?
I had an issue with the fan on the hvlp it was packing grease that was stuck in the air ports might be something to check.
I just got this and wondering if I should take it back to get a Creos 290. Its hard to know from just one review if yours was just one with some QC issues or this is to be expected from all of them. Two needles and this design for like $70 is hard to beat.
I got the Gaalerhi trigger style.
Thanks for the video! Awesome little tool! I dont know how familiar to you the fan patern sprayguns. If not, please take a look for some spraygun related RUclips video. (Like Paintsociety) The airpressure you used was little bit high, thats why you had butterfly like pattern and maybe you should clean the gun, the air nozzle... Somehting is not right at the bigger fan cup, maybe a dirt stucked into the air hornes... There is a ton of settings you have to set (material, air pressure, distance from the paper) to reach the good fan pattern. I have a preval Vfan airbrush, but missing the trigger style. :)
Already not impressed. Very disappointed that it's not painting very well with the fan pattern. Get what you pay for.
Agreed.
In my opinion, it looks to me like to much air pressure for the fan pattern. Based on the hourglass shape you’re getting. It tells me it’s blowing out the center if the pattern. I think it will work better at a lower air pressure
Good point!
Exactly! Just like a regular spray gun, you have to adjust your pressure and fluid to get the right pattern
@baggerchop not sure what regular spray gun you’re using, but even at a high pressure you still get an oval pattern??
@@TimeWarpCustomPaint it depends on the gun and material how sensitive it is. But sometimes even 3-5 psi can do it in my sata 5000 all the way down to my iwata lph80. Thinned material is more sensitive while I high solid clear is a bit less.
The problem is you have the fan cap horizontal, and your spraying horizontal. With horizontal spraying, the fan cap needs to be positioned vertically.
I’ll give it a shot
Wouldn’t that just paint a line? The point of a fan is a wide spray
Used .5 needle with .3 nozzle because he didn't realize he moved them around
Look's like the Iwata TRN only thing i don't like about the trigger Iwata is the small paint cup This will be interesting
Pointing out that you installed the .5 needle with the .3 nozzle. Not sure how that would affect the fan pattern.
Wow it's horrible. Temu has brushes that work ten fold better for 15$
I thought I was going crazy, mine was doing the same thing. Spraying heavier on one side or the other. I tried everything, and couldnt get it to spray even. Im new to airbrushing, and stated with an Iwata NEO. I was really disappointed with the black widow trigger brush.
I will have a updated video up soon on this
Try turning up the air pressure to about 40 psi and use the fan tip that way. I saw a video on this and my Grex works better that way at higher psi.
Thank you for doing this video! I was looking at this airbrush, I haven’t bought it yet. So it’s nice to see somebody test drive it first. I see the issues that you are dealing with, but I hope it would be manageable. Could be a learning curve, possibly? I’m getting ready to do some airbrushing on my Harley saddlebags. So I like to come here and get some inspiration and courage 😂❤ Heather
I’m not too pleased with either one of the black widows I haven’t even opened the compressor yet I went ahead and bought all three. I’ve already taken one back and exchanged it it seems to be OK right now the trigger style. The other one just keeps blowing paint out of the top. I’m not sure why. HF never lets you keep your hopes high for sure. Buyer be aware they charge a restocking fee to refund now. I have a welder that I ended up buying to play with. After changing out a parts to real quality components the best that you can do it came out OK but I had to get in there and do a lot of funky stuff to it. I ended up taking Hobart tips to make them fit. HF is a constant un predictable purchase if it’s not simple stuff. It sucks as a place for beginners that don’t need to learn another curve.
Had fan tip before really dont need high pressures for it since most of pant is comming end of tip top and bottom mostly air goes thru center
So mine on the .5 needle has a blunt end instead of going to a point like every other airbrush needle I've ever used, is urs the same way? Cuz if urs is not I'll have to get a different one
Should be a point on the needle. Thats weird
@@TimeWarpCustomPaint did you polish the needle before testing or just right out of the box?
@@dixensizzler right out of the box
Hope this sprays as well as my pasche eagle talon. It's a .6 tip fan pattern but it does have 2 other sizes of tips and needles
It doesn't perform even close to the talon
Bought it and having the same spray pattern problem with 0.5 wide spray tip other spray tips work fine, anyway to correct the problem?getting ready to take it back....
I don’t think there’s a correction most likely. It’s a bad design.
Looks like to much air pressure
I think when you changed needles you never put the .3 needle in you put all the .3 accessories in and put the .5 needle back in. Look at the video when you take out the .5 you put it on top of tube and when you took out .3 needle you put it long was on paper. So when you put it together you grabbed the .5 needle from on top of the tube.
Yes you’re correct. Although it did not fix the issue. A few others I have seen are also experiencing inconsistent fan patterns
I'll stick with my Iwata's. 🤔
Would u recommend it for professional use or should I get a different one
Нет , это нам не понравилось.. Оставте себе..
Holy crap that thing can't spray even to save its life
Adam, you really need an affiliate link.
Sooooo??? Basically it doesn’t work..😂😂😂😂😂
Defective
For the .3mm needle, I'd turn the psi down to 13-15 psi... And try again... Might be easier to remove your right hand glove when airbrushing to get a better "feel" of the airbrush.... Let us know how it works out for ya...😉
I bought my kit yesterday (5-26-24) and can't wait to try it out next week.....
It was defective. The new one works fine 👊
@@TimeWarpCustomPaint ok, cool!....✌️🥸👊😉
You should try the swallow tail air brush I use it to paint my rc bodies
I’ll have to check it out. Thanks
Ill stick to iwata
These seem like Harbor freights try at a complete quality line of products. Have you reviewed the spray guns and the compressor. This whole set might be a great complete shop set up ?
Hello everyone
#lime
why do they even make it .. when they know the fan cap does not work
i kno rite... why play... just get this mini gun ANi GF3 Mini Spot Repair Spray Gun 0.5mm (AH1519012A) 39 bucks
mine was defective
That thing looks awesome
Aesthetically, sure but that fan tip look's jank.. if they can fix that issue, sure. Until then, I'd be looking at other options.. that has to have some sort of problem.
Good for watering plants I .bet
lol. Come on!!!
@@TimeWarpCustomPaint to be fair, Rome wasn't built in a day , so maybe a lil practice would be in order. :)
Did you take this apart and clean it before use? I did with mine (non trigger type black widow x2) and they were kinda dirty out of the box. But they work great. I want to try this one out now too. Thanks for the great video.
I had no idea it was this different from the other airbrush. Was just going to pass it over if not for your video. Thanks.
I did not, but I did clean it afterwards with no change. I did take it back and got a new one that functioned much better.
no bro they are not defective .. i have got gp850 .. i can say it works just a little better than this one . but that was it .. i tried it once and now it just lives in my cupboard. and i have watched the reviews on all the other ones ..they are all same .. but if u really want a fan airbrush , theres one made by "no name " by spray gunner .. thats the only one that works well beside th1 but th1 is discontinued decades ago 😅
it was defective
@@TimeWarpCustomPaint thanks for replying looking forward for the testing of " non defective piece" . If it works well thats great .. i would be so happy because its value for money . but i highly doubt that it will perform 100% with no issues. i guess at end it all comes to money .. but gp850 costs more but does not work well.
Price?????
$70
Gato con guantes no caza ratones.
What?
You sure do know how to make me spend money….lol
I personally like the harbor freight, Black widow button style airbrush
No doubt I’m gonna have to get one and try it. I’m one of those I can watch many reviews on something but you just never really know till you try it yourself. And at their price you can’t afford not to
