Strangeways's names is purely to do with the area in which the prison is based, its actual name is HM Prison Manchester, It's name is to do with the river not the prison. It's a strong brewing area, Fred Dibnah did a documentary about the chimney from the brewery.
@@ICouldMurderAPodcast if you’re REALLY interested it probably stems from the old English for ‘by a strong riverway’ and the area has been called something like strangeways since the 1300s
I used to live about 5 minutes from Brady and Hindley's old house, which has since been torn down. I was also about 5 minutes from Dr Shipman's old surgery. 3 of the UKs worst serial killers all in walking distance. Lots of fun!
The Smiths made a haunting song about the children. It is called "Suffer little children" and the album was banned for sale by WHSmith amongst other retailers. Hindley died in the same ward at West Suffolk hospital that my dad had 6 months earlier, and was cremated in the same place. That made me irrationally angry.
@@ICouldMurderAPodcast it’s ridiculous really, she had to die somewhere and be cremated somewhere. Everything she came into contact with in the ward was incinerated and the ward was redecorated but when I see footage of her funeral (it flashes up at the weirdest of times) I just see my Dad. She was one hard, nasty bitch.
My parents left Manchester because they had 2 young boys and one on the way in the early 60s, and these Murders scared the living shite out out of them. They propelled us into Purple Aki country instead. PS. You’re funny. P.I.S.S. I know all the places you’re talking about, all the street names, weird AF.

Thank you so much for the lovely feedback, we appreciate that! The Ian Brady Bunch - wow! Haha. We will 100% cover Fred and Rose in the not too distant future!
ive binged on all your eps and run out. im now sad. these are awesome
found the patreon, problem solved
love the intro!
I'm binging all your videos. I love your banter. :D
Love the podcast guys, fantastic work yet again. For want of a better word, you make learning about and pondering true crime all the more fun and interesting again! Nasty pieces of work, these two though!
Thank you so much, Paul!
Became a patreon the other day, worth it if you ask me. Also wanted to mention how you two go back n forth with your humour reminds of the original Ricky gervais, Karl Pilkington n Stephen merchant xfm radio show, way back in the day!
Thank you so much, Reece! That is high praise indeed (best podcast EVER, those three). And thank you so much for becoming a patreon, we truly appreciate that :)
@@ICouldMurderAPodcast haha it's all good man, am currently enjoying going through them now... and yes those 3 are the best. Keep up the good work!
Forgot it was Monday so this was a good surprise :)
You guys are brilliant! I watch a lot of true crime videos and channels, and you guys are killing it! (Sorry!) Those people who don't find you funny obviously don't have any class! Keep up the good work, really appreciate what you do. Ta very muchly.x
Thank you so much for the lovely feedback, Stephanie :)
The audacity some ppl have to dictate how you present your podcast! New sub
Strangeways's names is purely to do with the area in which the prison is based, its actual name is HM Prison Manchester, It's name is to do with the river not the prison. It's a strong brewing area, Fred Dibnah did a documentary about the chimney from the brewery.
Thank you!
love the banter
Strangeways is so called as that was the name of the park/area it was built on.
Thank you mate, all adds up!
@@ICouldMurderAPodcast if you’re REALLY interested it probably stems from the old English for ‘by a strong riverway’ and the area has been called something like strangeways since the 1300s
I’m watching this in November. Holidays are incoming….
The image of Maureen Hindley and David Smith at 39:13 was re-drawn and used by Sonic Youth for their 1990 album goo.
I'd completely forgotten that the photo of Maureen & David appearing at court was used on the cover of Goo by Sonic Youth.
I used to live about 5 minutes from Brady and Hindley's old house, which has since been torn down. I was also about 5 minutes from Dr Shipman's old surgery. 3 of the UKs worst serial killers all in walking distance. Lots of fun!
Loved the way you said of Loch Lomond
The Smiths made a haunting song about the children. It is called "Suffer little children" and the album was banned for sale by WHSmith amongst other retailers. Johns mother was very angry about the song but it's really very moving and no disrespect was meant. I can't wait to hear what you gentlemens take is on this dreadful case.
I have a complaint, you only upload once a week it’s outrageous and how dare you take a brief break what am I going to watch on Mondays?
I could murder a...Pot noodle!(Do you remember the advert from the 90s?)😂
Damn, I'm setting off in over an hour to work so do I watch this now or save it for later ? hmm
ps looks like I'm watching now.. hey don't ever change your style boys - these videos are brilliant!
Thank you so much mate!
Smashed it out the park again lads!
Thank you!
I loved the episode, I really enjoy the way you both cover cases!
Also as a Scottish person, Ben's lovely pronunciation of Loch Lomond was hard to hear 😬🤣
I’ve already had messages from my Scottish friends! Apologies 😅
@@ICouldMurderAPodcast 😂 that's excellent!

Thank you Carmel! Hope you are doing well!
Just popped on yt to put 1 of your vids on... Timed that just right for a new 1 😉👍 cheers lads
Thanks Jessica! Hope you enjoyed :)
Hindley died in the same ward at West Suffolk hospital that my dad had 6 months earlier, and was cremated in the same place. That made me irrationally angry.
Oh wow, can’t imagine the emotions that must have put you through. Sorry for your loss.
Keep up the great work lads you've been killing it
Thank you mate!
Cheeers guys good work :)
Cheers!
@@ICouldMurderAPodcast Still watching :D great work!! :)
by the way a friend of mine is a survivor of Harold, He has a crazy story. anyway, cheers
You need to laugh to get through the dark stuff...just keep doing what you do AND the way you do it 👏🏼👏🏼👍🏼
Will your last podcast be Ted Bundy ???
Thank you so much! Close, but not quite with TB!
Love the show!
Thanks guys really love the British Crimes :)
Thank you!
