Been on a binge of your videos- decided it was time to comment. Fantastic work, just brilliant presentation, research, and overall power quality. You both seem like quite likable guys as well. Thanks for all your work, I look forward to seeing your audience grow!
I think it's unfair to blame the Norwegian police for not reacting appropriately or lacking leadership. This is an attack of historical proportions. They had NEVER before been subjected to such a situation. Changing your mindset from "This sort of thing does not happen here, this is not LA" to "Oh hey we know EXACTLY which steps to take" is a HUGE paradigm shift. Blaming them, for not being prepared, is quite unfair. I know for a fact they will now be over worried for the rest of their careers.
I completely agree, I have to say that I dont think police in LA walk around expecting things like this either. Im sure they have more routine when it comes to active shooters, but just look at the 9/11 attacks(i know thats not LA)..That was the day that US government was caught with "their pants down" just like Norwegian police was this day. sadly, thats what it takes for the system to wake up and give some real funding, training and for responses to change.
just sat here at 4am watching this whilst making fresh pasta on my 19th birthday and honestly I think this has been the best start to my birthday ever. so thank you guys for that
I can only assume Ben struggled with breathing because he was excited to be back just like we are all excited to see you back on our screens! Great pod again lads, looking forward to the extended series
Oh man, that comment at the end, I'd give him a PS 1 without a memory card! Judging by his list, this would send him over the edge! By the way, I saw your recent one, don't listen to the negative comments about the wise cracks, they are good! Its good old British dry sense of humor. I especially like how you rescue initially failed wise cracks. Amazing content, your hard work is paying off for sure!
So, the "gymnasium court" is indeed the gymnasium of the prison he was incarcerated at. There were security concerns of having the trials at an actual courthouse. His criminal case was brought up in a real courthouse though - these pictures are for his many civil cases that HE (yes, HE) has brought up against the Norwegian state for mistreatment, human rights violations etc.
What a horrific tale. Binged the last 2 series over the last few days (with a few breaks of course, grizzly stories). Big fan of your work, keep it up gents ❤️
Hey guys, I’m loving the show. Just found it today and this is the third one I’ve listened to. I always enjoy when people can talk about things I know a pretty good amount about and still make it entertaining and fresh. That’s hard to do. Just like the Columbine and Benoit videos you guys made, I’ve read a book on this as subject as well so maybe I can shed a bit of light on one of the points you guys brought up. The whole idea for the bombing was to create a believable reason for him to be at the island. Even though the holiday and being a Friday wasn’t the best way to kill as many as possible, it’s main purpose was to get into the island retreat which was the main target so it’s was just a trade off he had to make in his mind. Apparently the plan was to enter the island under the guise of the terrorist attack on Oslo and that he needed everyone to gather in the meeting hall or outdoor amphitheater see he could address the camp and inform them about what had happened where he would begin shooting everyone while clumped together. Of course his nerves got the better of him when questioned by staff and he messed up his plan fortunately. Sorry to speak so coldly about that but that was his reasoning. Hope you find this interesting. Keep it up guys.
Good to have the podcast back. I would like to see one on Harold Shipman sometime as it happened in Hyde, Manchester which is very close to where I live
I'm a bit late but great that you're back! I've seen a section on prisons in Norway in Michael Moore's movie Where to Invade Next, which says a lot of how crime is dealt with in Norway. (Brevik gets a whole other treatment ofcourse).
Currently watching my fave crime podcast on xmas day whist I have covid (Trippled jabbed and fine). Thanks for making my day...Also you should watch the 2 films they have made about this...x
I'm all for rehabilitation of prisoners. That should be the goal. Get them in not for punishment but to make sure once they get out they are better people. But for guys like Anders I think some changes should be made. He does not deserve to live the way that he does. I would make sure that when the next guy thinks about a move like this,he also has to think about what will happen if they catch him.
"Seventeen years earlier, a friend of Anders had finally spelt out to him what everyone in their circle took to be self-evident: "Anders," he said gently to his friend, "come out of the cl*set.""
Last time I heard about Anders Breijvik, he was still alive. Sweden, where I am from, where in hugh shock from what happend in Norway. One of our public tvchannels canceled all of it's shows that day and broadcasted directly from the Norwegian tvstation NRK.
Ah ok. I always listen while at work, thats why I don't wait. Glad uve double your episode count this season too. Looking forward to seeing which cases you've selected this time.
@@ICouldMurderAPodcast You should ABSOLUTELY cover the band Mayhem. They are in fact Norwegian though. You should check out stuff about the scene in general as part of your research for that episode though as a lot of stuff you would cover was very rooted in the scene as a whole. 45:42 THAT IS NOT THE KILLER'S MOTHER. It is a picture of a Norwegian author, Marit Christensen, who wrote a book called Moren (translated: The Mother) about the mother of the killer. Easy mistake to make, but you should really edit it if you can. Other than that: very good podcast episode
Thank you, Olav. Unfortunately, that is a very prominent photo that appears when searching from the UK ‘Anders Breivik Mother’ and she resembles her somewhat. We will edit this out - thank you for making us aware, we really appreciate it!

The clothing he is wearing after getting out of the van is Norwegian police, almost SWAT, which i think is the reverse of hi-viz idea. Seeing a single “police” officer on his own in SWAT outfit would really stand out. As for the phycologists, i know Sweden, and probably Norway, the social side is people keep to themselves, they don’t look into other lives, which i think extends to the social services.
I wonder if they have scanned his brain, or will after he dies, to look for abnormalities. It seems so many people who commit these types crimes have frontal lobe damage, along with a history of being abused as a child.
The first photo of Breivik in court, was not from the Oslo court house. It was from a later trial, where he sewed the Norwegian state for breaking his human rights. That actually took place in a gym. The Oslo court house is a proper, deicent court house.
After just listening to his childhood, it actually makes sense to me how he became such a hateful shit. Growing up with a misandrist mother like that, he wanted to get as far away from anything connected to that as possible i.e reassert his manliness, become misogynistic, far-right politically etc. Bare in mind, I'm not defending him, more that I feel like I have a basic understanding of his psychology.
Or maybe the mass importation of foreign cultures and the subsequent crime and tensions this has caused sent an already unbalanced man over the edge? This is what you get when you abandon sensible immigration policies unfortunately.
@@ryan.1990 Even if that hypothetically was the case, there are plenty of people who manage any fears/concerns about immigration without picking up an automatic weapon and committing mass murder.
