This is absolutely perfect, I got one of those 10 x 16 shed buildings and it’s just enough of a step up to make it a pain on my knees. This is perfect. I’m gonna knock this out tomorrow.❤
Good one! I grew up by my Dad's side as he made DIY repairs because we could have never afforded to pay someone to do the work but he still wanted to improve our home. I learned all about tools and methods from him. I love seeing your children there with you. Even if the girls never have to pick up a hammer, they know what it takes to do DIY and the tools to use. That is a lifetime treasure they already have from you. I raised my stepson the same way. I told him that I hope he can always pay someone else and he at least knows what the work actually takes and what it is worth. Not surprisingly, he prefers to DIY things that he can do with the tools he has. Thank you for keeping this a family friendly channel!
With certain projects, I definitely need to get better at making the installation process a part of my assembly process (I.e. securing the back board to structure, then attaching the step unit. I think there are many opportunities to do this but I end up try to attach it assembled with bad angles on screw heads. This will help me to think these things through more often. Thanks. Really like your channel.
@@BOCraftsman Absolutely! I think in this case it’s my lack of carpentry/woodworking experience. I’m actually known as an “over-thinker”. You know the type. Spend a week planning something that takes 1 1/2hrs to build. 😆😂
Great job! I just ran into your video. Can you tell me the measurements from which lumber you used please. So I can try it and use the same lumber that you used. Looks great. Keep up the good work!
Looks great! We're renting a house and the front door entrance definitely needs a step. I think this would be perfect...but I need it to be temporary, so I wouldn't attach it to the house. Do you think that would work? I don't have those electric saws...it would be hard work, but I'm sure I could do it by hand. Lol.
Just wondering. Wouldn’t it have been a good idea to secure the middle support board to the back board before attaching the back board to the porch? And then securing the middle board in to the front board and then applying the top step boards?
Your way would mean that installing the back board with the little middle piece floating would immediately lock you into an exact position for the step. His way, he’s able to fine tune the step as a whole unit being level and plumb (including the middle block) before committing it to the deck and locking its position in.
For the support board in the middle, in the video you mention that it is secured from the front, and then wait to screw it in on the back. In the video it doesn't look like the middle support was attached to the back. Is that correct? Thanks.
He just meant adding a third board across the top. See how he used two boards he’s saying he eventually extended it by one board so he made it longer on the sides and the center support and then added a third top board.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I’m glad to have my girls involved. They enjoy it.
Thank you for making this first time making one and this helped out a lot!
Nice job, super simple, but adding that one step makes a huge difference with your deck. Keep up the great work inspiring other. 👍🏼
Thank you!
Thank you! Just what I needed.
I am in need of a single step. Thank you sir!
I’d like to thank you for this great video. I made my step today for my senior dogs and it’s so much better! Your instructions were spot on! 👌😊
Thank you for this! My dog is elderly and has trouble getting on my deck. This will definitely help him!
Same! This is exactly my reason for finding this video.
This is perfect ! Thank you.
I’m impressed with your attention to detail and the skill with the drill. Craftsmanship in simple things….respect!
Thanks. Just what I needed.
Great video man this is exactly what I needed for the patio entrance in our house we just got. Love the impending doom shirt too
Loved this vid...I am no carpenter and your video really helped me...thank you for sharing .
Thank you! Exactly what I am planning to build for a step for my... too high for me... landing for my new deck. Carol

Thank you! Sometimes it pays off thinking ahead but sometimes… that becomes a headache .

I think it would work. You might be able to have lowes or Home Depot cut the boards for you.

What is the size of the wood that you start with?
Love this. Wouldn't it have been easier to leave the front off and mount?
That is a good idea!

Yes, that’s little confusing
How many deck boards did you need for this?
@4:50 you reference adding a 3rd row. First mention of rows. What is the third row?
He just meant adding a third board across the top. See how he used two boards he’s saying he eventually extended it by one board so he made it longer on the sides and the center support and then added a third top board.
Thanks
what size wood did you us? is that a 2x4 or 2x6?
Looks like a 6 or 8
Thanks.
Why are you doing multiple passes on miter saw? It's unnecessary. Right?
…and here I just dug a hole so I could eventually level the ground and you didn’t even dig a hole.. I probably should have done what you did.
