I seem to remember Jim starts with the blunt pencil, then goes to a smaller mechanical lead (.4?) for the detail. I think he talked about it on his twitch stream when he was drawing a superman cover.
@@erichall3326 he did here as well.. at the very end he went and refined the eyes, and started adding more details to the face, hair, etc.. Unfortunately he only made it through one drawing out of four that was planned. There was lots of story telling. I have more coverage planned for NYCC. Supposedly they'll be some special/celebrity guests. Thanks for watching.
I studied under Mike Lin for his 2 week extremely demanding 14 hour days, "Be Loose". If anyone was luck enough to afford the fee, flight, lodging, criticism, rewards, brutal hours, you know you are far far far better than the ignorant person you started from.
