Save the Children CEO from Gaza: “Starvation Is Already Happening” | Amanpour and Company

- A senior U.S. defense official says that there has been a "significant increase" in the amount of aid flowing into Gaza, with an average of 200 trucks entering a day -- almost double what it was in February. However, according to a recent IPC report, Gaza is on the brink of famine and children are dying of malnutrition daily. The situation is clearly desperate. Janti Soeripto, the head of Save the Children U.S., joins the show from Rafah to tell Hari Sreenivasan about conditions there.

Not very difficult post 9/11. I'm against this but I certainly can understand the Israelis rage/anger and need for retribution. I saw it within the USA for about ten long years non-stop without ANYONE calling for any ceasefire.

@@stoneneils there are significant differences with 9/11. For one thing, the planes were not flown into the towers by members of a group whom the US was occupying militarily for decades. Also, the US had not been running a domestic apartheid system against captive occupied people for decades. The Israelis either had bad intel or, more likely, allowed the attack to happen because it provided a pretext to complete the Final Solution on the occupied population.
This woman speaks refreshingly frankly. Let's continue doing all we can to make this end.

@@andypitt2848 Israel won't let food trucks and medical aid in because it wants all Palestinians to be either dead or gone. This has been stated over and over again by Israeli government officials. They proclaim that everyone is a target, that all schools, hospitals, ambulances, cultural sites, homes, bakeries, libraries, mosques and churches are housing the enemy. The "enemy" is everyone, even children, and 14,000 of these have been killed. Many more will die from this famine and disease. This is straight out extermination.. Israel wants the land, and calls Palestinians animals. This interview is reporting very little of the reality. Ireland has now joined South Africa in calling out this genocide. But not Biden and most members in congress. Please don't just remain spectators. Raise a ruckus! Call your senators and house representatives. Ring the White House. Good question. Hamas has, I believe usurped trucks and robbed the aid, and taken aid for themselves, as seen in the tunnels and even in hospitals, medicine meant for the hostages for example. There has been people on the trucks being attacked by a frenzy of people and some on the trucks have shot people trying to take the food. Basically no organization that I am aware of, is doing a good job of distributing aid to those it is meant for, but why that is I do not know. The UN or perhaps the World Health Program have answers, but one I heard, that Israeli stopped a truck because there was a nail scissor in the truck, seems utterly ridiculous. Israel has actually sent hundreds of thousands of pounds of food to civilians, something I do not think any other country has done, for people in the country that attacked Israel. Stop Hamas and return the hostages and you stop the war. People just do not listen.

I will never understand why the US didn't force Egypt to take the refugees. They could have had all the food they wanted.
