I live in one and I have no issues.....the difficulties you hope exist don't. In the UAE you can be married in a church and your wedding is registered in the UK and divorce proceedings will follow that process. The Muslim marriages are different obviously but has no impact on me or other expats.

Common law is just what is common to a man or woman. But a lawful court of record that only moves under common law jurisdiction is still going strong, if people wish to use it , that’s all. That's the reason our water companies are not doing a proper job is because the shareholders fee of which are English are taking the money out of the country because they are only interested in their pockets, not investing in the water companies to sort them out. My friend was a Registrar for weddings at his local church. The validation process is incredibly strict, with a special safe, etc, because proper marriage carries so many serious legal implications. It's nuts that there's - yet another - two-tier practice.
