It's been 1 and a half years since I've watched this for the first time, it never gets old to me. I can only get around 20-30 perfects on this now but still, for a video that's about 4 years old, this is probably one of the best Stepmania videos I've ever saw. Amazing job, Izzy.

I just got back into stepmania. My friends and I were obsessed with it back in high school (class of '06). It's crazy how many great memories are attached to some of these songs. I'm really happy I rediscovered stepmania, but at the same time it's kind of a downer because I hear some of these songs and they instantly make me miss my old friends. Getting older sucks....

I feel the same sometimes. I played this game so much at school that i even got some of my friends to play as well.
Playing the same songs i played even though they weren't playing expert charts like i was, it was still so much fun.

Damn, even years after watching it for the first time, I am still impressed... God I wish I could play like this. It's been years since I stopped Stepmania and now I seem to have problem once BPM reachs 180-190 (Like Emerald Sword or many Dragonforce songs) my brain kinda doesn't follow as well as before ._.

At the options screen right after you start the song you can choose "Noteskin", change it to whatever you want or download new ones, I usually just use the one named "Note" instead of ex. Default.

You see him take the picture in the game. You see him go to the Stepmania directory and show the screen-shot, which means he just played Stepmania using that directory. While staying in the same directory, he showed the .ini, so whether he had the "hacked" copy or not, he still legitimately played on Judge 7. There's is nothing to prove.

+IzzySM Blast from the past! Were you any good with Vertex Gamma? I sadly lacked the stamina to really deal with it lol. But for Beta, I recall FCing at least, maybe a AAA or two. Lots of opportunities to mess up though.

I think this video is the crowning achievement of classic Stepmania. Maybe with SM5 and Etterna there are videos which show those games off better but for 3.9 it really does not get much better than this. Index itself being 'deprecated' now is the cherry on top, it's almost like a statement in its own right.

I have noticed this. It's ridiculously difficult to try and time dfjk kjfd dfjk kjfd type note sequences perfectly. Going "left hand right hand left hand right hand" makes it a LOT easier to time.

Just had a really bad injury to my middle finger on my right hand (i play spread and index). gonna be retired for about a month from stepmania but after that i can play index. i have to wait about a year before i can play spread again. so this video is giving me a goal to work towards, im gonna try to match this on index. wish me luck i guess.
The things Izzy does with Index style amazes me. I'm using 4-finger spread (which should be easier) and I'm still only managing Cs ;_;

I doubt it, but if you've heard something about 4/4 or 4.4, that probably means Judge 4 and Life 4, as for how hard the judgement is.

as for songs that seem impossible (berzerker songs, dragonforce songs) do you recommend slowing the song speed to like .7 speed to get used to it and slowly work it back up to 1.0 speed? It's what i did to learn how to stream my arrows with Delirium when i started playing, but is there another tip?

And I know as well that StepMania is a DDR simulator for PC/Mac/etc made by Chris Danford for just that purpose, but playing with keyboard is used either as much, or even more than playing with a pad now a days. :)

Gotta agree, indexing is really fun.
I've lowered the usual gfx of the song from the normal 80 % to 10 % or if it was 0 %.
It's a bit easier to play atleast for me so I won't be disturbed by the background.
It might up the FPS, atleast on a slower computer.
Yeah it does actually, I've got no idea why though, for some songs, I've played them too much, and my fingers are pressing the wrong keys (Mind blocks), but if I switch to Mirror, it's hopefully going to work. :P

If I would use autoplay, I wouldn't be able to "ghost tap" before and after notes. Check around 0:33 to see that the arrows on the screen are reacting to my keytaps. :)
There's like atleast 30 different versions of Gaussian Blur. And what do you mean by "can't do it"? There's a super huge difference between AAAA'ing a song and passing it.
If you do mean Gaussian Blur V2 from KBMP2, it's AAAA'ed by me, 3/4 years ago.

Well, when I recorded this video it was played on my computer 3,2 ghz, 2,5 GB RAM Memory, XP Home Edition, Logitech Ultra X-Flat (First Edition) and with my TFT screen 4 ms respons time. :P
That's about it, I dunno the graphic card, but it isn't something special. :P

I did have a lot of free time, even though I did go to school, atlethics 5-7 times a week and practiced the piano. I work a full time job now so there's no way I'll be able to redo this without practice again. Would've been nice though..
Izzy, I have a couple questions to ask you, I am having computer troubles along the lines of lag, framerate, and keyboard lag. May I ask you what keyboard you use and what you use to boost your computer's performance, i.e. is it the better graphics card, ram, etc.
I do also play on Judge 7 once in a while, and if you check other videos I have, I have AAAAA'd both Ageha and Ub3r R4v3, or to put it in another way, AAAA'd BOTH of those songs on Judge 7. Which is an was incredibly hard
I don't get how 2 fingers can move that fast...I've played Stepmania for over 4 years and can probably AA with 4 fingers but I have no idea how you do it with two. Do you use mainly your wrist or try to keep the fingers low and just use the muscles in them?
Maybe it's just a StepMania Theme for it?
I guess that the version 4.4.2009 could be the 4th april 2009, the day the version came out or so.
many different themes have changed the AAA, AAA, A etc to SS. Like in many other rhytmn games.
Hard as fuck song, I remember even on my prime I could get only 75% of the song before failing.

It's hard to say as different people needs different ways to reach a higher level, and it's always hard to find the next step on how to improve.
I'm barely playing anymore, cause of a lot of reasons, and when I play I usually keep playing around C650 to C700. When I was at my best and as in this video, I never played below C700 and usually around C750 to C800. Other things that can help out a lot is by playing on a higher judge for a few weeks or months.

Index = Playing with two fingers, Usually each Index finger from each hand, I however, use my left Index finger and my right long finger for that. :P
