  • When the conflict between the western and central communities escalated, Pork Pie paid the ultimate price; this is the story behind the tragic discovery of the beloved chimp. Chimp Empire follows the largest group of chimpanzees ever discovered who have built a complex society deep in the forest of Ngogo, Uganda - but ambition and neighboring rivals threaten to destabilize their empire. Narrated by Academy Award® Winner Mahershala Ali and directed by Academy Award® winner James Reed, Co-Director of My Octopus Teacher. Chimp Empire is only on Netflix.

As sad as it is, they’re not allowed. It’s the golden rule when filming wildlife, don’t interfere/change events no matter how big or small the situation.
I understand what you mean regarding the film crew with the chimps and that they may have caused stress or other factors to change but believe it or not, them being there filming did little to nothing to their lives.
There’s been many documentaries over the years about the Ngogo chimps and so they are more than used to cameras by now, plus, the rangers would regularly check on them with or without the cameras and so they are used to people.
I would certainly be interested to see if they do react to the cameras or not, but I’m sure they don’t mind. If they did, I’m sure they’ll have zero difficulty telling the crew to do one lol.
      Edit:
If you watched the entire vid to the end, they say he was used to humans and walked very slowly.
