I’m excited to see you guys cover this. My 39 year old husband has loved WWE since he was a child. This broke his heart and he still talks about it to this day.
Concussions and the way they can change the brain has always been a huge fear of mine.. I got one concussion as a child and it was from a mechanical bull lol Decided to look it up out of curiosity and it turns out that about 80% of child mechanical bull incidents caused traumatic brain injury, most requiring immediate neurosurgical intervention... safe to say I've never rode a mechanical bull since and probably never will
As long as you avoid the mechanical bull and don't do spinning kicks like I use to do in Tae Kwon do you'll be ok lol. (I got 2/3 concussions from that kick alone). It is scary yes, but the brain is quite resilient. You seem like the responsible type so I'm sure you will stay safe :)
As a wrestling fan, I did not expect my 2 worlds to collide lol. I’m glad you guys did an episode on this. It’s truly heartbreaking. I look forward to watching this later!
As a former wrestling fan and was old enough to see all of this play out as a kid...everytime I hear it, I just hurt for everyone involved. I truly believe Chris checked out of this world the day Eddie died. 💔
It's funny eh.its such a chessy real cheesy show......but even me a girl from northern Ontario the first time my dad brought me wow I met the Iron sheik and Jean ferre better know as Andre the giant..... Looking forward too this...on with the show......
Yes you’re right but iirc it was a decades long battle that the “wwf” wrestling company and their CEO Vince macmahon (sp?) kept using crazy loopholes to avoid having to make thw change until finally the real world wildlife foundation finally won in court. Idk if Vince and Wwe finally gave up or what?
Zoloft numbed me for a while. But It was better than the turmoil I had been feeling. I was on it for 6 years and the last two were bad, I switched over in the pandemic to my current mix and it was a lot to feel emotions again… I still struggle with strong emotions here and there but I’ve been working on allowing myself to feel. I think more doctors should make people aware that Zoloft has a higher chance of numbing everything. I personally don’t think it should be a long term prescription because of how many people I know who dealt with the numbness.
My Mom had that same issue on it... I however didn't, took it for years and never had a problem... It worked great. It's so strange how it can affect people so differently
I had that happen too. The total apathy scared me more than the depression ever had. It made me more dangerous to myself than I was off meds. I have tried MANY different meds since then and finally found one that works pretty well!
My 8th grade son is in football. They now have extra caps that go on helmets called guardian caps. They are so helpful in protecting our kiddos and our coach are very diligent on teaching them proper technics to hit your opponent. There is risk but they are working hard on more safety
It really pisses me off that people still deny Chris did this, or when they blame other people. There is SO much evidence that he did it, and was alive afterwards to think about it. CTE is real, he was hooked on drugs, abusing steroids, he just lost Eddie Guerrero (his best friend), his marriage was failing, & his wife was also heavily abusing drugs. Its fine to hold WWE responsible for the role they played in this, and the doctor who prescribed the addictive pills-- but ive seen people say the wife did it, or Chris was forced to do it & then he was killed. Its ridiculous. He can still be a wrestling legend, and have his career/impact spoken about highly: but he did something unforgivable. The blame shouldnt be shifted
you don't think there's a lot of odd and suspicious discrepancies between the narrative given, and some of the details and circumstances in this case that seemingly were disregarded/dismissed.... Unaccounted for?

Omg as a WWE fan since I was 6 yrs old and am now 34 I am so excited but nervous to hear that you are covering this episode. If I may make a request, CAN U PLEASE COVER EDDIE GUERRERO’s and CHYNA’s STORY PLEASE 🙏 THANKS SO MUCH!!! Great podcast! I’ve listened since the beginning
As someone who has had multiple concussions and knock outs (horse riding accidents, despite always wearing a helmet), I appreciate you guys bringing awareness to the risks involved with concussions.. although I knew they were bad, it’s only been in more recent years I’ve learned about CTE and do wonder what impact my injuries will have had on my brain.
I worked on that episode of Dark Side of the Ring! And all the others since. It’s a wild show and I’m so glad you covered this - it was one of the saddest ones I’ve worked on.
My *worst* fear is this happening to my family. My kid’s dad has been abusing steroids for a few years now, against me begging and tearful wishes for him to stop it. I just know I’ve listened to some men talk about how steroids, a few more than some others, can make you think literally insane things. They call trenbolone or tren “divorce in a bottle” but I personally have witnessed it as voluntarily undergoing demonic possession, and I don’t say that lightly or with any exaggeration at all. This is so sad. I am so sorry this happened to his little family, they probably trusted him implicitly and loved him dearly, if you wonder what could make a man do this to those who love him-it is this. I think CTE likely contributed as well, I agree. Not a particularly religious person but I find myself saying out loud with my whole heart lately….”God be with us.”
I remember being around 8 or 9 when this happened, I grew up watching with my brothers, Chris was one of our heroes, I remember us crying for months after this happened. I still bring this case up to people. It was just so devastating. So much hurt and loss in this case. :(
Thank you for covering this! I’ve been waiting for someone to cover this one again! Purple sky and talk is Jericho did amazing. Now I can say lights out definitely brought it up a notch! Thanks and bless the families left behind.
I'm italian. I grew up watching WWE with my dad and it's one of my most beloved memories with him. I still remember when Eddie's death was officially announced... God it was heartbreaking.
Chris benoit is almost ingrained in my soul bc I grew up watching him with my uncle, who later also died by suicide 5 years later. But when Chris did that, my uncle helped me process my grief and confusion. I really appreciate all the channels that cover this subject with empathy and respect. Thank you
Thank you for calling Chris an icon because for us who grew up watching him I know I always looked up to him. RIP to the whole family 😞 this story hurts but it shows us all don't take head injuries for granted.
Makes me upset and sad knowing that when they wrestle it’s all, not fake, but choreographed and they STILL can’t avoid the damage their bodies must sustain. These guys so many times come from circumstances where they don’t have a ton of options for success- - - in THEIR minds- - due to socioeconomic factors or maybe not the greatest family situations, and they choose these careers that definitely are incredible as far and fame and fortune go, but they just have their bodies pummeled. I highly respect these men and my heart goes out to them so much so!!!
I am a pro wrestling trainee in Calgary Alberta currently! So surreal to hear you guys cover this, so many people mentioned in the video I look up to or have met relatives of even! Crazy sad story that hits home for me
The craziest thing about traumatic brain injuries is that they can completely change a person. I'd like to see you guys cover the case of Johnny Lewis. He played Half-Sack in Sons of Anarchy and dated Katy Perry. He got a TBI, his personality shifted and then he ended up killing a woman and then fell to his death
I was prescribed Zoloft at 14, I took half a pill for a week and felt drunk and as a 14 year old I thought it was pretty cool, then I took a whole pill as prescribed and all I thought was “I’m going to unalive myself right now” and I grabbed the pills and dumped them down the toilet. And I’ve never taken any pill again.
I was prescribed prozac and it turned me into a suicidal psychopath, I wanted to unalive myself and everybody else around me, like you I've never taken any thing else, it was a very scary experience
I have been waiting on you guys to hopefully cover this story one day on one of your channels for so long! I am so excited! Was a massive WWE fan as a kid! I cannot wait to get off work and listen to this today! Thank you so much!
This is my 12th day in a row working, my pedi patient is finally sleeping. Time to take a beat and listen in 🙌🏼 Even when it's serious content you guys still manage to make it palatable. Thanks Josh n Austin! ❤️
Agree I want an episode on this too. From my understanding Chyna died way later from an accidental overdose of mixing alcohol and prescription drugs but the two had a turmoultulous relationship and idk how Eddie died
As a huge fan of wrestling of all kinds!! This case is just all around horrific and heartbreaking whichever way you look at it. Thank you so much for covering this case.
I’ve witnessed roid rage and I’m still dealing with the trauma 10 + years later. Hearing stories like this makes me even more aware of what could have happened to me. My heart goes out to family affected by this tragedy.
My family bonded over wrestling, but we couldn't keep watching after Eddie Gurrero died and Chris Benoit did what he did... then when they tried to erase everything and pretend nothing happened. I had to stop supporting it. So awful. Never should have happened.
Love yalls content ♥️ could you guys perhaps start adding chapters to your videos again? It’s extremely helpful when I am trying to jog my memory/refer back to a specific thing that is said!
I was a massive wrestling fan as a kid. My brother and I would watch it every weekend. Chris Benoit was one of my absolute favourite wrestlers. I didn't really understand what happened when Chris died, of course I found out many years later. His poor wife and child. Heartbreaking.
Longtime pro wrestling fan....let me tell you this one disturbed me as a kid. The year before Chris Benoit's best friend Eddie Guerrero had passed away and I cried a lot...but when this happened? I didn't how to feel...I was 11 and just remember I felt numb and didn't watch it for a few months because i couldn't get passed this.
You have to realize that, at the time, wrestlers would try and come back quickly from injuries. The reason being, especially in the bigger companies, if you were hurt too long, they would move on and forget about you. So if a wrestler was getting a big push, they wanted to continue that push, even at the cost of their own health and well-being. Wrestling companies have a large pool of wrestlers to pull from and if you can't handle it, there's a hundred other guys just itching to get your spot. This mentality caused many wrestlers to compete when they shouldn't have and cost many of them their health and/or their lives.
Dang the professors were in today! You guys got me educated today, loved hearing everything Danny brought forward too! This case is so sad, my dad and I have watched the whole time I’ve been alive, but I remember when Chris and Guerrero passed. I’m so glad you guys covered this because now I can show him lights out too! 🤭
Sadly even though they wrestle for wwe wrestlers like benoit don't get health benefits for CTE because they're considered independent contractors and when benoit was doing it especially when he was at the top of his game WWE didn't have the "no chairshot to the head " rule that they have now also about his diving headbutt he never collided heads with his opponent he always hit the chest for safety reasons
I’ve been waiting on this one. Him and Eddie were my absolute favorites growing up. Lots of love to the family of Nancy and his kids that were left behind. His remaining son is a beautiful soul and has a hard time with this and we send lots of support. God bless them
I was a massive WWE fan in the late 90’s - early 00’s. Something about Chris never connected for me but even I saw how broken he was after the loss of Eddie. Enjoying hearing your perspectives thus far, about half way through just now.
For my generation in my area, it was Big Time Wrestling, where we watched Rocky Johnson (the Rock's father), Peter Mavia, Pat Patterson. We knew it wasn't real, but it was in the moment. I don't watch any of this now, but even went to a live match when I was 19-20 yrs old.
I'm also a wrestling fan and this was surreal in the worst way when it happened. Paul Hayman as well as a couple other ppl in the business have much disdain for Benoit for what he did and although they aren't wrong i just want to point something out and it's a rhetorical question... life is a crazy thing. So crazy in fact that isn't it possible to be 2 things at the same time? A victim AND a killer. The guy's brain was practically mush. I see that crime as having 3 victims and one killer. It doesn't take any responsibility or blame away from Chris but not everything is black and white. Great episode guys. Much respect.
that statement is so well said, I’ve always said that chris was a victim too. and I don’t say that to defend his actions at all or to understate what his victims experienced. but if he hadn’t killed anyone and was only a victim of suicide this conversation would obviously be a lot different. it’s okay to say that he was a victim of mental and physical health struggles while also acknowledging that wasn’t an excuse for his actions and what he did was horrible.
Mental health is so important no matter what status someone identifies as. I wish all humans realize it’s not weak to keep balance. It’s hard because of the stigma attached and people like to see things clearly. Since mental health often isn’t seen, not much is understood. Now we have scans that can show many mental issues. As time goes by even more will be understood imo. I’m so sorry for Chis, his family and loved ones for their huge loss. Such a nightmare. Elijah was a prophet who taught that families can be together forever even after this life is on earth is through. I believe in this. I believe we all came from the same place, here for the same reasons, and can reunite where we came from one day. I’m not religious as I once was but spiritual still. My prayers go out to all who feel the loss of all lives taken far too soon. 🙏🏻🕯️
I love that you did combine my two favorite things.... this whole thing is just sad I feel for Chavo Guerrero since he was the one who got the call from Chris before he took his own life ... to be honest there has been a lot of shady things happening in the WWE y'all should take a look at the tragic death of Owen Hart since y'all were already talking about the harts , and seeing as I trained as an independent wrestler I did not get a chance to make it anywhere because I got a really bad concussion that broke my orbital bone my nose and completely cracked my skull in half on my forehead. on top of a couple of minor concussions I can attest to the dangers of the sport. I get that Chris Benoit is something that no one wants to bring up, but in a way it kind of breaks my heart that they have completely erased him and his wife from the WWE catalog especially for his remaining son he can't even go onto peacock and see the backstory of his father in his prime before all the bad.... also I can attest to the CTE, it really does change your brain chemistry there was no history of mental illness in my family once I had my entry I was diagnosed with bipolar 1 disorder in my whole entire brain chemistry was thrown off after this is not to excuse it's just an observation just because I know what concussions excessively can do to you.... either way he should have found the help
My son is a huge wrestling fan!! You can ask him anything about wrestling and he can tell you even from before he was even thought about lol I actually named him after Steve Austin I actually met him when I 18 or 19 when I worked at the airport in Northern Kentucky/ Cincinnati.
Daniels input and knowledge on the steroids topic was very insightful. I'm glad you guys are bringing awareness to the danger of both steroids and human growth hormones. Also, I highly recommend the movie Concussion, staring Will Smith. Its based on the true story of the neuropathologist that first discovered CTE in a NFL football player.
Look at how the rock looked in the 90's to how huge he is now. Also,ECW had some incredible talent, shame they never got promoted like WCW and WWE,a lot of the ECW matches are crazy.
I grew up watching wrestling and I watched WWF and WCW religiously. I remember ultimate warrior, sting, hulk hogan, mankind, Jake the snake, Owen hart, NWO, etc. so many more! ECW was more violent so I didn’t really watch it. I remember when they used a cheese grater on people’s foreheads during an “anything goes” match (can’t remember what it’s called). I was so shocked when I heard the news about Benoit. Eddie Guerreros passing was also so tough, along with Chyna. It would be cool if you did an episode on Vince McMahon! I stopped watching wrestling before John Cena came on the scene (I definitely felt old when you mentioned him 😂) but heard so much about Vince as I got older! I’d love to hear a deep dive into Vince and his fam! He definitely did steroids!
Im excited to hear this. Im a life long wwe fan i remember watching it all play out and when the details came out it was sick but you guys are always so respectful in the way you talk about cases i look forward to it
Thank y'all for talking about this! There has been a clip circling around social media recently of Paul Heyman stating his opinion of the situation so tactfully. Being such a huge wrestling fan and a child during the height of Chris Benoits career, this really puts things in a different perspective from my chilhood understanding of what wrestling was. Thank you for covering the subject of CTE also because like y'all, i wouldnt let my kids participate in contact sports either.
I am currently (9/25/24) listening to this episode on Spotify but had to come and share my connection to this. I lived in Newnan, GA (about 30 mins from Fayetteville, GA) when this happened and my mom was a banker who worked at various Wachovia (now Wells Fargo) banks during the early 2000s. My mom told me she was his banker a few times when he was living in Fayetteville. My mom unfortunately died in 2022 but I sure do wish I could tell her about this full circle moment. Okay, back to Spotify! Keep it up guys! I listen and tell SO many people about Mile Higher Media. I feel like we are friends. lol
I’d love to see you guys react to Australian football - AFL ( no it’s not rugby it’s an entirely different sport completely) and I believe it’s even more dangerous than NRL as they play with no pads. They have added concussion rulings now but for years it has been a topic of discussion after many deaths in the game. a little late considering the game started in 1860.
This was a great in depth dive on Chris Benoits case. I remember when it happened but not the details. It’s just so tragic and heartbreaking at the end of the day. He didn’t get the help he needed, nor it seems like he reached out for it and the WWF definitely wasn’t stepping in to change anything either. I truly believe it was a combination of drugs and his marriage deteriorating. RIP to everyone. Especially little Daniel🤍✨
i couldnt remember what made me stop watching pro wrestling as a kid & it was this,,,,wild that my brain completely blocked it out. my heart aches for everyone involved in this
Eddie was clearly Chris' anchor to reality as the cte and steroids absuse caught up with him and was probably one of the few if not the only one who talk home down during his roid rages/mental breaks. The video during the Eddie memorial episode is very telling. And when Eddie died so did Chris' hold on life and was the beginning of the end for him and sadly his family
I grew up watching wrestling and Chris was actually my favorite wrestler. I remember watching all his events and then the news broke on this and I was heartbroken that someone I loved and followed could do something so horrible. I stopped watching wrestling after that
Since you guys mentioned Chris Jericho I wanted to mention that aside from Being a wrestler he's also the singer for a personal favorite band of mine, Fozzy
Brain injury’s are NO JOKE people sadly change. I’ve myself had multiple injuries and I can tell my personality has changed and seeking help for it. Sadly not everyone recognizes it themselves and sometimes need loved ones to talk to them to hopefully help them help themselves. I know that’s not always easy. Wasn’t there also a football player who was an ideal guy and he turned into a “killer”?? We really need to make a system of professionals to see signs/evaluations and help them (I know there’s not always signs) this is obviously a huge thing in contact sports so why is this not a thing yet
Ooof I was not expecting to hear Chis's name. He was my absolute favorite wrestler, I was devastated when this happened and stopped watching wrestling not long after this. I remember seeing bits of the trial on tv. I am fully invested in this episode.
Okay Daniel?! We see you!! You need to come out and talk more on the pod! So much insightful information
Love the episodes where we get to hear more from Daniel!
Totally agree!!
Right
I was coming here to say the same thing! so well spoken, and so much good info from him!

Really enjoyed all the information and perspective Daniel brought to this episode!
This is my 12th day in a row working, my pedi patient is finally sleeping. Time to take a beat and listen in 🙌🏼 Even when it's serious content you guys still manage to make it palatable. Thanks Josh n Austin! ❤️
I watched wrestling a lot as a kid. I only liked WCW, and I loved Chris Benoit. Glad y'all are covering this!
Nancy was freaking gorgeous. I can’t believe he did that to her 😢 and their poor sweet little man. I hope he was totally unaware and in no pain. ❤️🩹
he didnt do it kevin sullivan did this and framed benoit because of him taking nancy from him
@@truthboy-t8 I don't know if I believe that but there's entire Facebook groups and subreddits about Chris Benoit being framed.
What makes you think this? He waited 10 years to get his revenge?? @@truthboy-t8
@@truthboy-t8 oh come on, this guy was a complete ass.
She reminds me of Tara yummy
This definitely makes me even more interested to see the Documentary coming out about Vince McMahon
omg wwe content? chyna & eddie guerrero next please!
Wait,what’s the tea on them?!
Agree I want an episode on this too. From my understanding Chyna died way later from an accidental overdose of mixing alcohol and prescription drugs but the two had a turmoultulous relationship and idk how Eddie died
Well since those two didn't m.rder there families. I seriously doubt it but there are other content creators who did videos and documentaries on them.
@@Hirouka1 Same it be cool to see a case on them but they are only talking about this bc it involved murder.. Eddie and Chyna died of other causes
@@PrivatembEddie died from heart attack
It actually went from WWF to WWE because they got sued for the rights by the World Wildlife Foundation. LOL
🤣🤣🤣
The world wildlife foundation was using WWF long before wrestling.
Ohh, I cant wait for this episode to drop! This and mile higher are my favorites to listen to/watch! 🤗❤️
I 100% agree. My boys will not play football and we are huge football fans. Just not worth the risk. 😢
So glad you covered this story! Its so tragic.
Can you please cover Chyna and/or Owen Hart? I been a WWE fan since I was kid and there stories never get talked about outside of the wrestling world.
This story is so heartbreaking. BUT in the least, CTE is finally being taken more seriously.
I love Austin's soothing voice, I could listen to him telling stories all day every day, makes me feel so relaxed, no matter the topic ;)
I was a massive wrestling fan as a kid. My brother and I would watch it every weekend. Chris Benoit was one of my absolute favourite wrestlers. I didn't really understand what happened when Chris died, of course I found out many years later. His poor wife and child. Heartbreaking.
Thank you for covering this!!
Excited to see you guys covering this story! Going to go chill in bed with my dogs and enjoy. Thank you!
I’m so excited you guys covered this. Wrestling was a staple within my household growing up. Chris Benoit was one of my favorites 💕
EEEEEKKKK I can't believe I'm so early!!!! I really enjoy the way Austin, Josh and Daniel cover these cases 👏🏼
This breaks my heart …. I went to school with his daughter 😭😭 I never hear their story on podcasts
Oooooohhhhhh man!!! I am excited for this one!!!
So glad to see this from you guys. Thanks 🤼♀️ 🇨🇦 💪

I loved Chris Jericho when I watched wrestling in the early 2000s. I had a Jerichoholic shirt and everything. This story is so tragic story.
This is such a sad story
@baileyburgess9286 thanks. It's a very very awful crime. I've been alive long enough to know that not everything is what it seems on the surface.
Thanks for going over this.
G'day from Australia 🇦🇺
It's 5.45 am here. Time for LOP 😅
Going to start this video later, been waiting years for you guys to cover this case. Rest in peace Nancy and Daniel
As a wrestling fan. Im so glad yall covered this.
No one will ever convinced me Kevin Sullivan didnt do this to chris and his family
Look at how the rock looked in the 90's to how huge he is now. Also,ECW had some incredible talent, shame they never got promoted like WCW and WWE,a lot of the ECW matches are crazy.
Check out the dark side of the ring episode on Chris Benoit
Thank you !!! You guys are so knowledgeable and factual when doing these cases . Thank you
I grew up watching wrestling and I watched WWF and WCW religiously.
This case made me so sad when it happened. Thanks for all your great programming. ❤
I feel like we are friends. lol
Greatly enjoyed hearing more insight from Daniel. Hope to hear more from him in the future!
love the long episodes it makes my work day go by much quicker!
And when Eddie died so did Chris' hold on life and was the beginning of the end for him and sadly his family
all of the tragic stuff took me out of WWE for years. It's only been because of the arrival of Rhea Rhipley that I went back in. Warily.
Lol… the side convo about implants 😂😂
WWE has changed alot. Vince is not even there.
Love you two guys loads. Wonderful as always
Such a good episode! We’ll done guys
I grew up watching wrestling and Chris was actually my favorite wrestler. I remember watching all his events and then the news broke on this and I was heartbroken that someone I loved and followed could do something so horrible. I stopped watching wrestling after that
As soon as you mentioned Xanax think that could explain a lot
Great episode
