    Holy Week Kapitangan Paombong Bulacan
Maundy Thursday. This is the usual scenery in Kapitangan Paombong Bulacan during Holy Week.
Devotees practice “penitensya” where they strike their backs with bladed wooden whips, lie on their stomach in each station of the cross to repent and pray.
They do this yearly as their “panata” or “pamana”. Panata as repayment of an answered prayer like curing a disease or resolving family conflict. Pamana as inheriting the tradition from their parents who performed penitensya.
This area is known for their practice of cruxifictions.Tonight, they pray and ask guidance in Santo Kristo Church for a safe cruxifiction tomorrow.
Good Friday, 9AM, they start reliving the flaggelation of Christ. This is the Kasamahan ng mga Hudyores. They organize the devotees as “Hudyores”, a role tasked to be the jews that inflicts and mocks the Christ during his crucifixion and “Kristo”, the devotee to be hurt and nailed to the cross.
The Hudyores flog the Kristo with rubber whips to emulate the pain and suffering of Jesus to the cross. They continue inflicting pain until they reach the crucifixion site.
Crowds gathered to witness the crucifixtions. They sterilize and bless the nails to be used on the Kristo.
The cruxifiction. Devotees collect the Kristo’s blood by rubbing a piece of cloth into the nailed hand believing that it would heal their sick relatives.
