  • I'll touch on some of the bullying I have seen in the homeschool community giving specific examples but also offering support to homeschool moms who might have been on the receiving end of the nastiness.

I haven't really been the receiving end in person anyway but there's definitely also cliques within the homeschooling community and with my chronic pain in my leg and feet, it's hard to go to every event or have my kid socialize. My son is special needs and very shy so he doesn't do well in a big group setting and find that the kids don't play with him much. That's the hardest part of homeschooling for me. I can so relate to those comments online though! I'll ask for advise and they'll sway you into sticking with the curriculum or get hate bc you want to try something else lol especially with math! It's so hard to find something that will work for both of us. I also want to say that alot of homeschoolers bash on parents who send the kids to public school and vice versa. Now i live in the state where the education is scored on the bottom compared to any other state and i haven't had a great experiences with public schools and private is too expensive but we should definitely have grace to other moms who send the kids to public school 🏫 😅 sorry for this long comment 😂😅

@@KikiP-rb8no yeah, there are a lot of cliques for sure!! I’m sorry that’s the experience your boy has had. That makes my mama heart really angry. And I agree about the weird “war” we have with traditional school folks. It’s weird. The negativity from both sides is sad. 😞

Yes definitely. Homeschooling circles can be very competitive. Even religious VS. secular. Also Homeschooling special needs can be challenging. Good video!

Thank you! And yes! “Competitive” is such a great word to describe a lot of it which is just so strange to me.

I'm a homeschooling mom of going on 3 years. I'm constantly bullied by the kids dad and his gf about homeschooling. The criticism is emotional exhausting. Idk what to do. I really want to continue homeschooling but can't continue with the constant remarks that I'm not good enough

@@hannahporritt7612 oh mama… this breaks my heart. I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I’m not usually a proponent of standardized testing but an option could be to test the kids and show their dad that they are doing just fine. Sometimes that’s the only way that non-believers will finally keep their comments to themselves. It’s a sticky situation for sure and I’m sure there are all kinds of issues at play. I’m so so sorry. Hugs to you. ❤️

You are so sweet, and really humble to deal with a subject where you feel you have once inadvertently upset someone yourself. So good of you to speak on behalf of others and offer support as you do now. New moms would be very blessed to meet you. I've homeschooled 10 years but that doesn't make me someone who is successful and could give advice. My life journey never less my homeschool journey has been very complicated and challenged from every conceivable angle leading to tremendous difficulties in seemingly ordinary situations to other moms. I hardly make it some days and years. For me now, in my circumstances, I don't mix with any hs groups, co ops or activities. My children go to normal extra mural sports clubs and I do the best I can at home. It is a very lovely thing though to be able to be part of a good hs community if it's available. I know you were speaking more on curriculum issues, just thought this can run into all areas.

3rd year in and we are about to try an all in one boxed curriculum with videos for some subject and parent led for some subjects. But all from one company. Piecing together different stuff together isn’t working for me. At least not in this season of life.

The most vicious I've seen comes from the gaga fangirls of one particular curriculum company that I will not name. If you dare say that you don't like it, or don't want to use it, even if you say it as nicely as possible, they tend to jump to all kinds of conclusions about you. They start name-calling and hurling all kinds of wild adjectives and assumptions at you, including throwing around the word "drama," while simultaneously saying that we need to be kind and open-minded. The hypocrisy is astounding.
    If you know, you know.

@@katie7748 it’s crazy!! I don’t know for sure which curriculum you’re talking about but I have a guess. I’ve seen it too with “purists” of one particular homeschool style or another - the same type of nastiness if you don’t follow that particular style to a T. It’s all very bizarre. 🤣

I almost always recommend new h0omeschoolers start with an all in one. It lets them get going and then see how their kids learn in order to switch it up later.
