Wiggy, Thank you for your approach to the videos you make. They are always first class with respect to the game you pursue and without any profanity. God Bless, Chris Russell
Ah, these older deer camp videos before you got the Wall Tent certainly have a charm of their own. The campfire scenes were great. Awesome buck! The antlers looked cool presiding over your camp. Great job. I'm thankful to be able to relax with these hunting camp videos at the end of a day.

Well done man. Nothing like being outdoors hunting by yourself. We don’t have deer in Newfoundland but have lots moose and some caribou left. My wife had a bull or calf moose license this year and shot a nice cow calf on opening day. Some good eating meat.

Another great video Wiggy. Congrats on the success! Also love that A Bolt. I have an A Bolt .308 I've hunted with since I was 12. (Im 37 now.) - Greg in Georgia

You could take any animal in North America with that .300! GREAT round. My dad bought the .308 in the late 80s and I immediately started eyeballing it even as a young boy. I always commented on its beauty to my dad. When I was 12 he gave it to me. I cant even begin to start to count the dozens and dozens of deer that thing has taken. Wiggy's Wilderness I hunt in Pennsylvania there’s the Allegheny national Forest which is north western corner of Pennsylvania that has some remoteness. May I ask what state are you hunting don’t need to know the area that supersecret I get it just the state?
I envy you. You have excellent property to hunt and can actually maintain a deer camp without others coming to rob you blind or destroy everything. I too enjoy the solitude, but more so, I do not know anyone that likes to be disconnected like I do. Stay safe....best of luck!
The worst experiences I've had while hunting were on lease land and hunting clubs in Georgia. Luckily, in this spot, someone would really have to work to get out where this camp is. There's no trail access at all, it's bordered on one side by water, and most of the surrounding area is farm land. There used to be a problem with poachers and trespassers back there until I started hunting it, but I've seen no evidence of other hunters for a couple years now.
Nice buck!! He was about the same size as the 8 point I took this year. We had a bad year this time due to the blue tongue. I'm about a half hour from chattanooga. Still managed to put two down this year though. Again nice buck!
Nice video. I hunt like you do. Good deer country, hot seat on the ground, big tree for a back rest. I bought a hammock seat this year. Wow, check them out. Very cheap and really comfortable. I bough the rifle to hunt elk in South Dakota. There's no reason to stop using it just because it's bigger than what I need now. It's still a great shooter and not much bigger than a 30-06, lol.
@@WiggysWilderness I guess im old fashioned I only use a 308 or 35 rem depending on where im hunting . I do own a 1978 300 weatherby mag my dad had left to me when he passed but it has never been used for deer hunting only moose and bear. love the channel btw.
Vetted Warrior- How do you figure it's overkill? It's a 30 caliber bullet. Same as an .06, 308, etc. The only difference is that the magnum has more powder pushing the bullet faster. Big deal!
Man you must have some excellent bedding for camping in those temps. We don't see the 20 degree mark as often here in Alabama/Northwest Florida but when we do, my feet FREEZE. Any suggestions on a really good warm hiking/cold weather boot? I've been through a pile of high dollar and cheapos and haven't found a good boot for me yet for those cold days. I missed a buck similar in size this morning to yours. First deer I've missed with a rifle in over 10 years. In hindsight, I shouldn't have taken the shot. He had spotted me and made a break for it. Can't kill them all! I enjoyed it Wiggy!
Funny you should mention boots. My feet froze the last time I was out there and even when it's warm, by the time I leave hunting camp, both of my feet are normally blistered pretty bad. Last week I picked up a pair of Herman Survivor hunting boots from walmart. They look really cheap with a sort of translucent sole and some kind of plastic cap on the toe, but they weren't that expensive so I gave them a shot. I got one size larger than I normally get so I could double up on socks and they actually did really great! First time ever I've come back from camp and not had blisters and I know I hiked at least twice as much as I normally do. Even my back feels better! I don't know how well they'll hold up, but they worked good for me this time around. Break in time was about four days. They have 800 gram insulation and with one pair of wool socks and one pair of synthetic blend socks my feet stayed warm and dry. Don't worry too much about missing deer, it happens to everyone, a LOT more than people admit, lol. Thanks for watching!
Looking for a new deer camp destination. Is that public land? What state? We've been going to West Virginia mostly. But have also camped and hunted in Pa., Maine and most recently Wisconsin.
I’m surprised that buck ran at all being hit right on top of the shoulder like that. You had to have missed the shoulder plate entirely. The deer had to be exactly broadside since the exit hole looked to be exact opposite. I like all your hunting videos btw.
what a great camp set up. Like the new tent. did you try to use the propane cooker to heat up the inside? I have tried but it makes condensate on the roof interior and starts dripping lol. Not being critical of your weapon choice by any means but was wondering why the 300mag for woods hunting? Just an all around great video and hunting experience. You da best Wiggy.
I've tried using heaters in those tents and it never really worked because they have so much ventilation, but maybe something like one of those Buddy heaters that can direct the heat straight onto your sleeping bag might work. I got that rifle many years ago for elk hunting when I was stationed in South Dakota. When I found out that it doesn't kick any harder than a 30-06, and doesn't really ruin any more meat than a 30-06, and it was just as accurate as all the rest, I never saw the need to get rid of it and I use it just about every year for at least one or two hunts. The only down side is that the ammo is more expensive, but I don't go through a lot of it. I check the zero before going hunting and it's almost always right where it was the previous year. It's still fairly sharp looking and it's very solid, so it's probably my favorite gun. Thanks for watching!
Congratulations on your 8 pt !! I know it was alot of work humping in all the extra gear but I know it was worth it. Thanks for the great footage of your camp setup , meals and camp life. Looks like you ate like a king compared to your usual hotdog suppers :) . I was wondering what video editing software you use ? I have filmed some of my trips and would like some suggestions /tips for editing. Thanks again for the great video!!! Wally
Hi Wally! The extra accommodations and solid meals made for a much better trip. Usually I'm sore for days after one of these trips but this time wasn't so bad. I use Windows Movie Maker for editing. It kind of stinks and doesn't do well with HD footage, especially on longer videos, so eventually I'll have to change over to something else, but it's working for me at the moment. As far as tips go, when you're filming, treat the camera like it's your guest. That's the seat that the viewer is going to be in, so just talk to it like you would talk to your hunting buddy. That's the easiest way to not come off too stiff when filming. Also, when you're talking to the camera, try to do it in short paragraphs, like 20 seconds or so and then pause for a moment when you reach a good stopping point. A "natural" pause in the conversation doesn't come off as awkward, and it allows you to edit down the speaking portions if you run on too long or decide you didn't like the way something sounded. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
It's hard to say exactly how far it is because the terrain is so broken in that spot. Not very far for sure, maybe a mile to get from the road to the camp, and further to get to the spots where I hunt, but it's up and down steep hills with no trail access to get from the road to the camp. This area is like an oasis of woods in the middle of cattle pastures and farms. The only reason it wasn't cleared in the 1800's and 1900's like the rest of the land is because it's so rough that it would be impossible to farm. It is privately owned and I've had permission to hunt, camp and film there since 2014. Prior to me hunting there, the area had a bad problem with poachers and trespassers, so things walking off is a real possibility. I always keep an eye out for evidence of other hunters in the area. Luckily for the past few years, I've been the only one out there. Still, I never leave anything out there that's amazingly valuable.
I enjoyed this video!..now, did you scout the area before you sat down for your hunt? Did you look for Scrapes, Rubs, Scat and trais where the deer came through that area? Otherwise you’re just wishing and hoping. The Deer Cart is cool, you can haul some of your camp gear in and out with that saving your back....You were very LUCKY to get that Buck what with all of those trees in your way...
I wrote all of that before I finished watching the video..Nice Knife!..Your camp looks very comfortable, there are some nice new LED Camp Lights available today, I have had one for a couple of years and the new ones are even better. I’ve subscribed and I look forward to more of your videos.
I took the first deer of last season with the Jaguar. It worked pretty good for what it is. Here's the link to the video; ruclips.net/video/82dPBwuFHVk/видео.html
I seems you are an avid outdoorsman like many of us, or more so that viewers replicate your skills.. Have you considered doing a survival hunt? Or bug out hunt? I've often wondered how we would fare with only bare minimums for 2-3 days..Anyways I admire & enjoy what you do
We can get three deer a day here, but only one buck per day, and only two bucks per year. Our season is about 100 days long, so in theory you could take around 300 deer... But only two bucks. As you can see, they really need people to take does. They even added another week onto the season just for hunting does, which is why I'm normally hunting for them.
Not really too many deer all together, just that the buck to doe ratio is all out of whack. For many years it was buck only and they shamed anyone who shot a doe. They thought you weren't just killing that doe, you were killing every deer that doe would have given birth to over the years. Then they found out that's not how it works when the buck to doe ratio got way out of balance. Then they tried to get people to shoot does, but they had done their job too well, no one would take one. So they loosened up a little bit at a time, but still no takers. Eventually it ended up being a daily limit like squirrels with an extra week on the season just for doe hunts, they dropped the buck limit from three down to two and still some people just won't take a doe.
Thanks Tcarp! I field dress all the deer before taking them anywhere. It lightens the load by about 10 or 15 pounds, lol. Plus, if you do take them to a processor, they charge like $20 for doing the field dressing!
I suppose the short answer is that I wouldn't be any happier with a large buck than a small buck. I don't keep the antlers for a trophy, I use them to make things, so a larger rack is nice and all, but not required. Being selective in this area usually means going home empty handed, and with our licenses being 166.00 dollars a year, I can't afford to be too selective and I have a responsibility to my family to fill the freezer. I do pass up some deer, just not very many, lol. I'm not against trophy hunters or QDM hunters or anything, but we all hunt for different reasons and a deer this size already is a trophy to me. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I got one of those expensive Coleman catalytic heaters but it won't do much to heat a tent like this one since it directs all the heat straight up. One of those Buddy heaters that's more directional would probably be the ticket!
Awesome video. I love the way you do it old school like packing in a tent and then roughing it. I mean roughing it with like a fire pit, lanterns, chopping wood etc and not living in a big luxury trailer or hunting camp. I have a quick question for you. Is it legal to hunt deer with dogs in your area? If not would it be legal to shot them because they are chasing wildlife? It is not legal to hunt deer with dogs where I live and it is also legal to shot any dogs chasing wildlife. I would have been tempted to shot the dog first and then wait for another deer to come along. This would also count for coyotes as well. The coyote would be shot first regardless if I ever shot a deer that season. What are you thoughts on this? I am just curious on your thoughts. I value and respect your opinion and I am not trying to start anything on your channel here. Looking forward to the next video and hope you are successful in tagging another one.I seen your response on how many tags you can have. All I can say is WOW WOW WOW !!! With that many tags I would never be home for the entire deer season.....lol I guess I would have quite a beard going on just like you after living in the woods for 100 days.....lol We are only allowed one deer here and it depends on the area you get to hunt as to what sex it can be.Take care,TomA fellow subscriber from Nova Scotia Canada
Thank you for the kind words! Hunting deer with dogs is illegal here in Tennessee. If someone has dogs that they let run wild, and they're on your land, running deer, or otherwise causing problems, then the owners of the dogs can be charged with neglecting their pets. The same is true if you hit a dog while driving here, the owners are responsible for the damage to your vehicle because they weren't taking care of their animal. If you shoot a deer that's being run by someone else's dogs, or wild dogs, it's not counted as hunting deer with dogs because you aren't liable for someone else's pets or feral animals. It would be seen as no different that shooting a deer that was being run by coyotes. Coyotes and wild dogs are huge problems here. I Never saw the dogs here until after I shot the buck. They ran some does within sight of me, then they were messing with the gut pile when I came back to pick the deer up with the cart. As much as I didn't want to leave the area, I knew if I did't take that deer out of the woods, those dogs would be messing with it every time I left camp. I've asked a few people in the area if they know who the dogs belong to, but so far no one has any leads. You guys can only get one deer in Nova Scotia??? I always thought you guys had a huge deer population!
Thank you very much for taking the time to respond back. If that was me in your case and after how you explained about the dogs, I would suspect that in my case there would be a dead dog and a deer running free from the chase. It is strange that if they where domestic dogs that they would want to eat the gut pile from your deer. Would make me think that they may be a little wild or such.Yes, only one deer per person unless that is you shoot a bow or muzzleloader then you are allowed one deer each for each of those seasons. With the rifle season you are allowed only one deer. Also we are only allowed one black bear per person as well. We did have a huge population but with a couple pretty severe winters, the increase with the coyote (no limit ) and bear populations (hoping they will increase the bag limit on bear because of the huge bear population) in our province. Also the huge loss of deer habitat due to clear cutting by the forestry industry has not helped with the deer herd recovery, so there has been quite a dramatic drop in the deer population here. Hopefully it will get back up so that we are allowed two deer per any season some time in my life time. Not holding my breath on that one....lol :-)Thank again for the info. Oh yeah I really like your instructional videos on many of the products you use or recommend. I really liked your switching out the bulbs to L.E.D in your flashlights.Take care and stay safe.Tom.

Big deal!
U should do some fishing I watch all the videos u are the best
I used to do a lot of fishing videos. Maybe next season I'll do some more. I didn't even take the boat out all this year! Thanks for watching!
Great videos
Simple and effective, my style as well
Awesome video my friend. I’d love to spend some time in camp with you.
Nice free handed shot
Looking for a new deer camp destination. Is that public land? What state? We've been going to West Virginia mostly. But have also camped and hunted in Pa., Maine and most recently Wisconsin.
This is on private land, but Land Between the Lakes on the TN/KY border isn't far from here and they have hunting and camping areas.
You live a awesome life buddy!! Any Bear encounters?
great video congrats on your buck.. how far from your camp were you hunting ? just courious
Thank you! According to the GPS it was a third of a mile away from camp.
Nice vid!! Good buck!! Thanks for sharing...sub'd ya!
How far do you have to carry stuff in? Are you hunting public land? Do you worry about any of your stuff walking away?
Great video
Thank you for your support! Hopefully I'll have time for one more big trip before the end of the season.
Wiggy's Wilderness yeah also what state r out of
Tennessee
Hey wiggy what camera do you use for ur videos, thanks for ur vids very informative
Do you rattle in bucks o not? And if you do has it ever worked? Greatings from México!
I've tried rattling but never had any success with it. Thank you for watching!
Get you a lil Buddy propane heater for the tent.
Wiggy do you ever hunt with that Jaguar crossbow you showed in one of your videos?
I took the first deer of last season with the Jaguar. It worked pretty good for what it is. Here's the link to the video; ruclips.net/video/82dPBwuFHVk/видео.html
I think I'd have streamers of hunter orange tape all around your camp in case another hunter comes into your vicinity.
What state are you in? Also great video
Thanks Daniel, I'm in TN.
I seems you are an avid outdoorsman like many of us, or more so that viewers replicate your skills.. Have you considered doing a survival hunt? Or bug out hunt? I've often wondered how we would fare with only bare minimums for 2-3 days..Anyways I admire & enjoy what you do
Well done
Thanks Mike!
Nice, how many tags are you aloud there
We can get three deer a day here, but only one buck per day, and only two bucks per year. Our season is about 100 days long, so in theory you could take around 300 deer... But only two bucks. As you can see, they really need people to take does. They even added another week onto the season just for hunting does, which is why I'm normally hunting for them.
Is there that many deer there wow
Good deer buddy. Did you field dress it there and then take it to the processor?
Thanks Tcarp! I field dress all the deer before taking them anywhere. It lightens the load by about 10 or 15 pounds, lol. Plus, if you do take them to a processor, they charge like $20 for doing the field dressing!
you rock dude ! there arent many hunters that would do what you do today ! keep on keeping on buddy ! oh are you hunting state land or private !
Thank you! It's private property that got permission to hunt, camp and film on back in 2014. I make it out there a couple times each year.
Wiggy, do you know of anything which operates on propane that would safely heat the tent ?
Those Mr.Heater "buddy heaters" are about as safe as they get. They run through some propane though!
Good job
Great camp but why take the small bucks???
Wiggy's Wilderness you got a point bud here in Mississippi were covered in deer so you can pick and choose.. keep up the good work
Knife is a little over kill don’t you think?
Nice
Propane heater buddy next year and you'll never come home lol that's what we use its a game changer
I got one of those expensive Coleman catalytic heaters but it won't do much to heat a tent like this one since it directs all the heat straight up. One of those Buddy heaters that's more directional would probably be the ticket!
Yes sir I think one would do you well the new ones even have fans that run on D cell, love your vids man keep it up
Awesome video.
