    Gab's whole argument about Etihad not having enough money for a Man City sponsorship falls flat when Etihad can easily get infinite amounts of cash infusions from the Abu Dhabi Emirate - They're all owned by the same party, and that's why these deals are getting scrutinised, anyone sitting on the periphery of it can see this. Etihad is just one of many vessels for the owners to fund the club, while appearing 'transparent' on the surface.

      @@russellward4624 I've got the Abu Dhabi emirate mixed up with the Dubai emirate when I first made that comment but, that's still irrelevant (as to which emirate this pertains to). Etihad/Etisalat etc. are owned by ADQ, which is chaired by Tahnoun Al Nahyan - A member of the ruling family of the Abu Dhabi emirate, and.. brother of Mansour Al Nahyan who is the majority shareholder in the holding company that owns City. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that these are related parties? It's got nothing to do with racism, just highlighting that there's a clear family link between Etihad (along with other Abu Dhabi conglomerates) and Man City. As such there is plenty of opportunity for inflated sponsorship deals, to be used as a "by the books" method by an owner wanting to funnel money into their club.

      SMH. Some respondents actually do not understand how a business works. A business is a for-profit entity that engages in legal commerce and by that commerce must cover expenses and make a profit to survive. The United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia or the US or the UK are states, not businesses. They have their own police, military, intelligence, and---this is important---a broad range of financial instruments with which to raise money (by taxation, for example, or by selling reserves or by selling government bonds or by issuing currency). A state governed by an autocrat can do many, many more things, like buy sporting clubs or whole leagues and cover the expense with a subset of the budget for defence or foreign policy. Autocrats can also order state-owned airlines to give huge amounts of money under the guise of sponsorships, which the state-owned airlines do not have to worry about because the cost of the wildly inflated sponsorship deal will be covered by the state budget. A government can also run (and, indeed has to have) long-term debt and year after year of budget deficits, which it can cover by raising taxes or loaning itself more money by issuing government debt. A government can also change the law or create new laws. Telling the difference between a business and a government really isn't that difficult.

    I agree its outrageous and City are being petty, vindictive and showing their true colours that comes from a country literally owning a club, is it so surprising!!
    Every industry has to have regulations. All that aside, there is a real issue when clubs especially those smaller clubs have to sell their best players. The other issue that no one wants to talk about is the out of control salaries, agents fees, transfer costs. If there needs to be regulations to help level the playing field then in my opinion its the outrageous costs that need to be looked at.

      Apart from Villa and Newcastle; City and Chelsea have been in this mix for a while now. Yes clubs will look out for themselves but this is not solely an agenda by some clubs against city. As most competent pundits have said ; this looks like a deflection from city to try get one up with charges they facing as they likely to be punished. Whilst football is big business its still a sport and there are rules to sign up too. Even in business you have competition commissions etc.

    I am a big fan of the show mostly because of the strong opinions of the hosts. But seriously I have never been so disappointed in Gab and Jules. Jules, seriously, for someone who has such strong opinions on Dutch managers, your pathetic response to the MC lawsuit was very disappointing. 'A touch of hypocrisy, Im not to comfortable with'. That's the strongest opinion you can come with? And as for Gab (my former favorite soccer pundit), for someone who says he despises lawyers, you sounded exactly like a lawyer for Mancity. i wonder how much they're paying you for this proactive defence of their lawsuit. Of course Dutch bald managers have no power over you, but Man City and its associate or related companies very likely do, so as we see opinions can be bought. i had to stop listening to this podcast because I could not get past your pathetic response.

    Six out of seven may have something to do with good management like Pep and incompetent teams like United who blew their chance to sign Haaland. Having said, the ridiculous disparity in Top 6 Prem wages with respect to the bottom feeders makes the league a joke. Maybe these big teams should be given handicaps like horse racing and forced to wear weight belts to make it competitive. That may sound ridiculous but so is keeping the status quo.

    Are the English Premier league assessments of fair market value assessed the same way as other leagues? Mbappe was making some crazy 200 million per year at PSG and now is going to RM for like 20 million. Was his fair market value transfer to RM assessed at all? Didn’t Levomdowaki transfer to Barcelona and agree to a much lower pay than he got at Bayern? I did hear that Jao Felix agreed to a lower salary at Barcelona but La Liga assessed his value at Athelti to be higher and this adjusted his fair market value as a higher hit on Barcelona’s salary cap.

    It was never complicated before in the 60's to 2005. Problem is things have changed. The government needs to step in and regulate. Simple. You cannot have club owners who are oil barons spending billions or American businessmen or even English businessmen, at the end of the day it's football. There needs to be caps and not only a premier league and UK government review but a meeting of football bodies from all the major football leagues in europe. I exclude other leagues because they have nefarious purposes financially, and this is no more clear than in this case that has been brought to bear.

    These rich rulers and nation states are used to ruling not being confined by laws and rules… their view is that laws and rules are for others to follow while they rule. They should comply with the rules full stop or get out of sports. They think they can pay their way to buy the league and make it work for them which isn’t good for the game, it’s not good for supporters, or for sustainability of the clubs themselves.

    12:04 Julz I Listened from your own mouth that none of the charges were in the pep era. If what you said is true. How can the punish players who have nothing to do with it? The only thing that will happen if they lose is a massive fine like 1 billion. But non of Pep’s signings were world class. Haaland was cheap, KDB transfer was laughed at as a foolish mistake. Ruben Diaz was not the player he is now when we signed him. And a few others that were not expensive. Pep is just a great coach. And the PL cannot punish the City players or Pep. I will bet my house they don’t get relegated

    • @mooredalop4901
      @mooredalop4901 3 месяца назад +1

      I don’t think your points about the players is relevant in this case. The decision they make about City has nothing to do with the players whether they are pre-pep or not. The club is responsible for following the financial rules, so the club will be punished if they are found guilty - the players are innocent bystanders. It may not be fair to them, but that is not relevant in this case. They’ll just be punished indrectly. I don’t think anything will happen to City either, though. At worse, a big fine, which does not matter to them.
