    Just did mine. I'm a 55-year-old women And I'm proud of myself for being able to remove it and yes I carried it out by myself and it is very heavy. Can't believe the dealer wants so much for labor. I know they say don't get a car if you can't afford to take care of it, but the dealers are guaging folks.

    You don't need to remove the box @1:51 from the frame on top of the battery. Just remove the frame and it comes out as one piece.

    Do you not need to code the new battery to the car? Great video by the way 👍😊

  • @diydaduk
    @diydaduk Год назад +5

    You didn't cover coding the new battery to the car - not doing this dramatically shortens the life of the battery due to incorrectly regulated charging. Physically changing the battery is easy, coding the new one in is a pain in the back side!

      That’s a good point! We did realize that the system adjusts itself to handle a weak battery over time, so once we change the battery, we have to inform the system to consider the change.. However, we missed to add that info as it needs special tools, sorry about that

    Great Video! Very clear and easy to follow. Removal and installation went smooth. I have also have a 2014 Panamera 4 and the H8 battery was an exact match to the Varta OEM battery. For grins, I called my local Porsche dealer in Dallas to verify the battery size (since I couldn't cross reference the OEM battery to a US battery online) and they told me that the car takes a "H6" battery which is slightly shorter with lower attributes (CCA, CA, Ah) than the H8. I don't think the dealer was right.
    Lastly, since you changed out the battery about two years ago, have you had any issues with error messages because you didn't reprogram the car? Although I have heard your response from the previous comments, I'm just checking again as more time has elapsed since installation.
    Sorry for the long-winded comment, but look forward to any response at your earliest convenience. Thanks again!

      Hello Rowland, although our responses might be a delayed, we definitely read through any length of messages :)
      Well, honestly surprised how the dealer got a different info.. Yes, with the vehicle shown in the video, it has been two years, the vehicle is still in use and no issues with any error messages at all.. We haven’t heard about a reprogramming after a change of battery (although dealers might mention a process), and all we are doing here is unplugging and plugging two electrical terminals and nothing digital (practically similar to replacing an electrical outlet of your home).. Please let us know if you faced any issues/errors/scenarios when you swapped yours and we will try to investigate further..
      A simple hack of resetting your car after a battery replacement is, short the positive and negative terminals of your car’s side for 5-10 secs BEFORE connecting them to your new battery (MAKE SURE THESE TWO TERMINALS ARE YOUR CAR’S SIDE AND NOT YOUR BATTERY’S SIDE).. This process is not official but has worked for some people.. As these vehicles have smart tech built into them, when you short your car’s side terminals, all static charges in electronic circuits will be discharged and temporary data will tend to erase so when you connect in your new battery, practically you’ll perform a hard reset and fresh data will be created/collected..

      @@dontbelazydiy6063 All the garage said was they reset the car, and didn't say anymore, but I don't think you have to do it, just swap out the battery as you did.

    • @dontbelazydiy6063
      @dontbelazydiy6063  3 года назад +1

      Yeah, swapping the battery will be enough.. But if you want to make sure, you can do a reset by removing the terminals from the battery and touch them together for a couple of mins.. This is a kind of a hack but it works.. Doing this will drain all the capacitors which deletes the temporarily stored data..

    How do I open the tail gate when the battery is dead?

    • @dontbelazydiy6063
      @dontbelazydiy6063  Год назад

      That’s a brilliant question! Practically when the car considers that its battery is dead, it still holds enough juice to release the tail gate lock, after which you can manually lift the tail gate.. However, speaking with extremes and say the battery is literally 0, one may try to fold the rear seats and try accessing the battery from there, using a jump cable or a battery charger (we have not attempted this method, just an idea), but if that’s not possible, one should contact service unfortunately..

    You definitely need to reprogram the battery using PIWIS after this. when you battery is weak it draws more power so you need to “tell” the system that it’s a new battery and it can stop drawing additional power

    I always replace my own Battery in my Panamera. I use Durlast Platinum battery which I believe is manufactured by the same company that makes the Porsche recommended battery. I don't ever have immediate fault codes pop up after changing it. It works fine whth no check-engine lights sometimes for several months. I've never registered the battery after replacing it but whenever I take the car to a Porsche Dealership for repairs, they always tell me that I might be getting false random fault codes for other things but it's all caused by the 3rd party battery. For example, he said the system may not read the battery accurately and set off a false code for the auto stop/start system or even the AWD system. This code can sometimes be caused by a 3red party battery and can sometimes be cleared simply by restarting the car. I wonder has anyone ever been successful at registering a 3rd party battery to a Porsche panamera? If so how? And what scan tool did you use?

    • @dontbelazydiy6063
      @dontbelazydiy6063  Год назад

      We certainly haven’t tried registering our new battery anywhere and we haven’t faced any issues so far.. However, fault codes and issues with certain systems could occur if the battery is not correctly operational.. For example, if the battery is unable to store the correct level of charge, it could trigger such issues.. Battery storage works differently than a typical fuel/liquid storage, you’ll be measuring its voltage and current levels, so when a battery is said to be low they are not literal zero.. A certain known value specific to the battery size & model is mapped to indicate the battery is low, and another similar value higher than that is mapped to indicate the battery is full.. If the battery is not able to charge and discharge within these known levels, vehicle’s systems are alerted and hence fail-safes get triggered causing features to stop working.. If possible, try with a third battery to see if you face similar issues..

      @@dontbelazydiy6063 it's been over a way over year by now and my unregistered battery has worked great with no fault codes at all and still charges well. I've found that the mistake I made years ago was I had the right type of battery but wrong size. I had the H8 due to bad information from the seller. In the panamera there are 3 sizes that will work. The H7, H8 and the H9. But taking advice from the cashier at the parts store who tells you the H8 is about the same as the H9 because the computer says they both will work is a bad idea. If you install the H7 or H8 in your Panamera Turbo, you might get false codes and your battery likely wont last 1 full year. The H9 is the correct size battery and has the most power and it's also the biggest one that will fit with no need to register it and no fault codes. Made by exact same company as the Porsche branded battery for $200 instead of $450. They basically charging you extra $250 just for a different label sticker with the same specs.

      @@hellbent7062 What brand and model number is the H9 you bought ? I have a 2010 Turbo and need to replace mine. If I go two days without driving it I have to put my jump box on to start it. I fully discharged it by mistake last year leaving the power switch to the right one mid day to afternoon and it was stone cold dead as a result. Got it jumped and did the follow through to recharge it but it definitely weakened it. Please let me know if you get time. I'll be checking on Auto Zone for my car and H9 specs either way. I really thought it would need power to it from the posts up front while changing as our 01 911 does or else you have yo reset the stereo and soem other quirky things will happen too.
