In regards to the conversation at 36:00 about white cis people and diversity. I think monet is right. Speaking for myself im a white Canadian gay man. But I was also adopted homeschooled and a only child who lived in a very rural area so I was heavily isolated from any race issues gender issues . And this podcast for me has given me a window into the life of what it’s like to be a black person or queer person in America. And by extension made me more aware of racial problems in my country which we have many albeit slightly different at some levels. - when you get to hear these convos it just makes you more empathetic understanding and less ignorant. Even if you don’t have bad intentions you just don’t know what you don’t know and I’ve learned a lot from these two.I love this podcast so much ☺️

For example, Yalitza Aparicio is an Indigenous Latina, Bad Bunny is a White Latino, Arthur Nory is Asian-Latino, Gilberto Gil is Afro-Latino, etc. There is even a big problem with this within the Latin community as many White and White "Passing" Mixed Latinos like to exclude other races from our community, especially in regards to Afro-Latinos as there is a lot of discrimination against them within the latin community.

I'm Latina but white passing as is my 100% Mexican mother and grandma, it's just our phenotype, so I wouldn't consider myself a PoC because how people see and treat you is everything. My mother worked very hard to make sure that my high-school years were not surrounded by privledged conservative peers and adults. She moved us to Hawaii (no we are not rich or even remotely well off. She is a hard working nurse) and I went to school with mostly people of color. I wouldn't trade that experience for anything as they were some of the most caring and funny people I've ever met. Upon returning to California for college (because we could not afford Hawaii education) I immediately noticed the culture change and tribalism that I never witnessed in Hawaii. What's funny is if you ask most white people about Hawaii they say PoC are racist, aggressive etc, but I was never treated with disrespect or ostracized. People will also say "oh living in Hawaii is so white" which like, deminishes all the hard work the women in my family put into making sure we had a better life and also says to people of color that they can't or dont deserve to live there. Almost all of the kids there regardless of race came from struggling households and our public school was gheto as fuck. No air conditioning in 100 plus degree weather, constant violence and people with firearms on campus etc. All of us were aware that we had to deal with these things together and were accepting of one another. Being white never felt like being a minority even though we were because of how inclusive the local kids were. To this day I am so thankful that I did not normalize white and conservative culture in my life because I was in an environment where I physically couldn't do it.
