What does a record made of WOOD sound like? | CNC milling phonograph record grooves

There have been a lot of DIY attempts to make records, but not ones that use an obviously stupid method like trying to cut grooves in a piece of wood with a CNC machine. Could it possibly work?
This technique uses a CNC toolpath generated from an existing WAV file, so I guess this technically counts as digital mastering. My code (python) is here if you'd like to try for yourself [github.com/aln...]
For those wondering, the song is "the post horn gallop"

Never thought of wood as a medium for records. Clever idea! Sounds decent.

      It definitely doesn't sound decent.

You know what's something interesting to consider? Think about how many "lives" those wood fibers have gone through.
You made the record from recycled packaging material, which before that was recycled from spoil board, which before that was an MDF board, which is a product made from recycled sawdust, which was likely made at a lumberyard as waste while milling lumber from trees. Perhaps it's even possible that they were even cutting that sawdust while sawing down offcuts into something more useful. Regardless, it's been a long journey from when it was originally a tree.

This is amazing! The fact that is sounded that good on wood is super promising! I would be very curious to hear what it sounds like in glass since it is a much harder smooth material like shellac.

Very interesting, now we know what a record made out of wood would sound like, pretty grainy!

very impressive results you got! great video.
the material you have from shipping pcb stencils is some sort of fiberboard - medium density fiberboard (MDF) probably. likely, they just put this stuff as a sacrificial material on a vacuum table and suck through it to fix the pcbs to do the drilling. since you have almost no horizontal forces during drilling, this is enough to hold the workpieces.

Reminds me of the Soviet X-Ray records, bootlegs printed on old X-Ray photographs when importing western music was illegal.

I have those same boards from JLCPCB. I think it's close hardboard, well that's what they call it at Home Depot.

Why not to try cutting on bakelite? This material is highly resistant to high temperature.

Why not aluminium, the 3018/20 with ballscrews and a decent spindle should fly through that at record speed and accuracy? xD

Repent and trust in Jesus. Hes the only way. We deserve Hell because weve sinned. Lied, lusted stolen, etc. But God sent his son to die on the cross and rise out of the grave. We can receive forgiveness from Jesus. Repent and put your trust in him.
