- Hi #GGSquad, How are you? This is the first video from Srinagar, Kashmir. In this video, I show you some of the local foods we tried in Srinagar. We started with Wazwan with Irshad Sir and then tried an old bakery in Downtown. We also tried some street food in Hazratbal before proceeding to Makai Point. Don't forget the famous Walnut fudge and an evening in Char Chinar. Watch this video till the end :)

Wazwan is a multi course meal with roots in Central Asia. It was brought here by Sufī missionaries who thronged Kashmir in the 13th and 14th century CE. It's relished on weddings and relished by one and all.
PS: You get authentic wazwan only in weddings where it's prepared in traditional manner, on firewood and coal. Wazas (chefs) vary the fire and heat for every dish. Like tabakh maaz is prepared on seething coal (no fire is used) while vessels containing ristas & goshtabas need a lot of fire, while preparing as well as while heating when ready to be served to guests. Wazwan prepared on gas stoves comes nowhere close to it. Try to gatecrash a Kashmiri wedding someday to relish the real wazwan ;-)

I was in Kazakstan for 3 months and in Kyrgyzstan for a month for energy projects - both Central Asian countries. I was not able to find Wazwan dish there. But I love their Kumis and Beshbarmak dishes.

We travelled in the same flight to srinagar
Meethi maaz and Rogan josh is good in wazwan. gustaba is good too but doesnt taste like mutton because its beaten down/ ground meat. so taste completely changes. but overall other than first 2 things mentioned here rest all in wazwan may not suit the indian taste buds (it needs acquired taste to get used to these dishes). the chicken tikkas, chicken seekh kebabs are good. overall non veg in kashmir is Average taste only as per me. Biryani definitely NO in kashmir - it tastes so different (no onion, no ginger garlic, nor green chillies). kashmiri haak, kashmir tchot, lavasa, kandur breakfast menu is good with butter / simple tea. kashmiri brinjal curry is yummy too.

I'm just back from Srinagar, went to this outlet after her recommendation, but the wazwan was awful 😖 wasted money. I think they are paid for promotion.
