Test riding the legendary / un-killable KLR-650. I enjoyed the bike for what it is and imagine it’s dual purpose abilities would make it a really fun all around bike.
Shifter is the first thing I noticed on my 2023 ADV model. I actually like it on the road except for the front nobby more than my 99 or 2000 (whatever the first model year was) XR650R Desert Bike. We rode lots of asphalt and dirt in California City back then. Wish I kept the Honda but I am liking my new KLR so far around town and some dirt roads. But I am old. I will keep it for my fun low tech utility machine but I will need a street bike with a 6th gear too.
I got a 2012 with 5k miles on it and new knobby kenda and Bridgestone tires, I went from my 03 1600 Roadstar to this, and it is definitely a taller bike and yes you definitely feel the need to go off-road almost everywhere. It’s perfect for me , I ended up selling my big bike and use this bike almost daily… its what it is and I truly enjoy it . Oh and I’ve learned that with the new shenko 804-805s it likes to lean so far over into turns that it turns itself and I scrape the pegs. Even when standing, you can lean these little tanks way further than most would think.
Some people mentioned to me later that it’s designed for when your standing up. Felt funny on the road but I’m sure I would be able to get used to it. Thanks for watching
You guys in the US don't get them but the single most reliable truck in the world in production today is the Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series. It has been in production for 40 years with minimal updates. Toyota don't make bikes. The closest thing to a bike version of the 70 Series is this Kawasaki KLR which began 37 years ago, it's the Land Cruiser 70 of bikes. The design brief is go anywhere and never break down.
I brought a 2023 klr650 last year and they are pretty fast for what they are i ride mine like if it was a sport bike. Me and a friend brought one at the same time and I wish I brought a klr650 as my first bike instead of a 2022 klx230
Doohickie is an easy fix and bike is sorted then.Have the newer 1s still got that problem?I used to have a klr back in 2016 the local mechanic sorted my doohickie out I bought it on line and he fitted it wasn't too expensive.
I have street bike and a klx230s for off roading. However, I am strangely drawn to the KLR’s. They are giving them away at my dealer for $5900. I do t need it but coming very close to pulling the trigger.
I’m seriously considering something in the dual sport range. Something lightweight maybe in the KLX300 range. I feel like the 650 is too heavy for what I Would want to do off road.
I just bought a 2024 Kawasaki KLX 300 dual sport for off road exploring. I have a 2020 Suzuki DRZ 400 which I actually like to ride more because it’s much faster and more power but the KLX is still fun, super light and easy to pick up if you drop it off road. I have a Harley for the road and a 2023 KTM adventure bike which has been awesome for the road and forest roads….
I came to listen to the engine noise. Does anyone else think KLR’s sound like they’re rod knocking even though it’s the fuel injectors??? Or is it just me being paranoid
What's hilarious about it?if it were hilarious I don't think they would have kept it in production for 100 years.they actually have marketing experts and stuff for that sort of thing.its not a 10 at anything but it's a SOLID 7 or 8 at EVERYTHING.I lost count at around 30 of how many motorcycles I've owned since my 7th birthday in 1976 and have literally ridden daily ever since, rain, shine, sleet, and some snow even though it rarely snows here, I was on a motorcycle when it did and my klrs are one my favorite.the fuel injection and other updates made it even better.YOU are hilarious!
Hahahaah The KLR is an antiquated piece of crap. It is a grocery getter at best and a crappy one at that.. Much better bikes out there for less money. Every time I take mine out something else falls off the thing.. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY..
@@chipverner5011 Yaaaa, well wait till you put some miles on it. Every time I take mine for a ride something else falls off of it or fails. RUN AWAY, it is a total piece of crap..
@@spencervidal3168I have 74,000 miles on mine, and like all big singles, it vibrates. You just need to maintain it. I’ve ridden mine to Yellow Knife, and to Dead Horse on two different trips, both trips starting in Colorado. Any bike on a long trip should be checked before the next day’s ride, it doesn’t matter what kind.
It’s definitely not fast at all, but for what it’s meant to do (go off road) it’s got enough. It’s not something I would want to spend much time on any highway with but some people do and say they enjoy it.
@2WCapo What about around town only type... Grocery store rip, local restaurants type riding... ??? I've owned lots of high powered let er' rip type machines... I personally love the comfort and look of the 24 KLR 650... Will probably buy a Traveler this week to trick out a bit and add it to my history of motorcycle ownerships... Steal of a deal NEW leftover from dealership... 4300 plus OTD... !!!
@@tommysiemienik7172 around town it would be plenty. I enjoyed this little test ride so I can imagine if I was given the freedom to go do my own thing on it I would have liked it even more.
Some people could care less about sport bikes and would rather have a dependable low maintenance bike to get the job done.
and higher mpg haha
You called it right “legendary tank”. I never plan to be without a KLR.
The shift lever position is designed to allow for big clunky ADV boots.
That makes sense, after talking with a few people that’s also what they told me.
And it’s easy enough to move the shifter down a few splines to lower it.
If you need something to haul all of your worldly possessions around the world on then it's the KLR👍👍
I love my green '23, but that white does look nice on the '24!
this is a brand new 90s car for $5999 but it's actually a bike.
I have a 2022 klr650 and love it and I understand just wanting to take off into the forest because I have done it
Ive had every kind of bike out there and my KLR is by far my favorite. Ill go anywhere anytime no matter what the weather is.

I got around the shifter issue by using the edge of my boot. A lot of guys will swap the pegs out for some lowered ones.

What really amazing is the duelsport market is huge now. And kawasaki desides to do nothing 😢for them. Used to race the kx,s they kept up.

The Toyota Tundra of the bike world . Not great at anything but you can’t kill it .
Insulting the KlR is not cool.

What was OTD? and where at? My dealer with fees is close to 10k
@Rman1100
I don't know where the O.P. got theirs, but a dealer in Carson City, NV has the base model at
$5899 right now.
@rickquist3992 dealers in VA advertise literally 4k for 2023 models snd they are all 8k+ and if you want the bags adventure model it's 10k
A 7 in everything and a 10 in nothing.

Why doesn't sell Kawasaki this Bike in Europe/Germany??
I would buy it...😢
His commentary...I just cant...Jerry from rick and morty
Lol I know it’s me talking but I still laughed at that comparison. Appreciate the comment either way 🤘
How tall are you? How are the vibes on the bike is it smooth at speed
Around 6 ft, camera is mounted to helmet so vibes don’t do much, it’s just the wind that’s hard to avoid.
Wish I could come across one of these events. I have a z900 and absolutely love it but I would like to try an aventure bike one day.
Check on Kawasaki’s website, they take this truck all over the country.

You lose wind protection and fuel range with a DRZ. I have a zippy KTM 500 EXC and the KLR650 is the chill garage mate.
