It's really nice to see you enjoyed these songs. They are special to me and many Rush fans. Tha Analog Kid and Subdivisions are both coming of age songs highlighting the wonder and the pressures (respectively) of growing up. New World Man and Digital Man cover early and later adulthood. Factor in Losing It, also from the Signals album and they cover everything from adolescence to old age. It's a beautiful album and the lyrics, as always are spectacular.
Neil starts the Analog Kid with these lines: "A hot and windy August afternoon has the trees in constant motion. With a flash of silver leaves as they're rockin' in the breeze." When it's summertime and you see the wind kick up and the leaves on the trees turn over from green to their silver underside, you know. a storm is on the way. "A boy lies in the grass with one blade stuck between his teeth. A vague sensation quickens in his young restless heart. And a bright and nameless vision has him longing to depart. You move me. You move me with your buildings and your eyes. Autumn woods and winter skies. You move me. You move me. Open sea and city lights. Busy streets and dizzy heights. You call me. You call me."
Just top shelf stuff from Neil. It's just universal. Something we can all relate to. A calling, a yearning to leave what's familiar and seek out new adventures and experiences. It's the moment fledgling birds summon the courage to leave the nest and embrace independence. That big wide world is out there ready to be explored. That's what I think of when I hear The Analog Kid.

Woo-hoo!!! You reacted to two of my favorite Rush songs! The music video to 'Subdivisions' made me a Rush fan less than one year ago when I came across it on RUclips. Listening to the lyrics, it reminded me of how lonely my teen years were, having been a nerdy, introverted child living on a farm and attending a very small school. This live performance of 'Subdivsions' was awesome! As for 'Analog Kid', it's one of my favorite Rush songs for the music, mainly, and especially this live performance. Everyone is on fire here, but my favorite part is the synth breaks (the sound is so majestic!) and Alex's frantic guitar solo. I also love the camera shot immediately after where you can see Geddy multitasking, playing bass while playing synth pedals with his feet! I'm glad you reacted to both of these songs in one reaction (you should do that again for future reactions!). Also, have you reacted to 'Dinner with Rush'? It shows them having dinner together. It's a really fun window into their decades-long friendship.

In the off chance you are unaware, Alex clowns around pretty much nonstop. Sometimes he pretends to sing (on occasion he *does* do backup vocals), or he goes to the edge of the stage, interreacts with the audience, pointing at Geddy doing the hand motion to his mouth implying Geddy is high or drunk, or gets a confused look on his face and mouths "What the f*** are these lyrics?" while Geddy is singing. There are clips of him doing "introductions" from various tours where he just makes up names for all three of them during the middle of "Closer to the Heart". Check out "Dinner with Rush" (whatever it's called) with the 3 of them getting drunk and joking around while eating out somewhere. He just messes around endlessly. Also, notice sometime that he has *enormous* hands for being such a skilled guitarist, Anyway...enough out of me. 🙂

WM, bless you for getting emotional during Analog Kid. it's a great song and I recommend you go ahead and check out the original studio version, just for yourself. It is a little bit different from the live version and it really is a wonderful song, as so many of theirs are. Other than that, please check out the By Tor & the Snow Dog medley, from the Exit Stage Left live video/CD! It is a video that starts with By Tor and then adds "In the End", "In the Mood" and "Grand Finale" (from 2112), as the end song from the ESL concert (in Montreal)!! It is very fun and crazy! Enjoy!

So... you randomly popped up a few days ago in my feed, and now I've watched several videos. You seem to be a really interesting deep soul, and very grounded, humble, nature loving,
and sweet. I'm intrigued 🌷 Someone has to really impress me for me to wanna start sharing my stuff. I've been a guitarist all my life, and had the chance to meet RUSH many years ago. I now play bass and keyboards also. I learned so much by studying Alex's playing.
I have many Rush songs on my YT page.
This one is from a show in San Jose CA on the last tour and I am playing guitars along with the song.
This is all made from my photos of the show the final R40 tour before Neal passed. La Villa Strangiato.
The only instrumental song on Hemispheres.
Only watch when you're ready to hear that song

New subscriber here! When you get a chance, you should react to 2112 Live at the Molson Amphitheater in 1997. They are in their 40s, and performing the song that put them on the map in 1976. You will be thoroughly amazed, as most people are! Off the stage, they are even better people! even with all of their fame and fortune, they have remained humble, and loyal to their fans. They have always been, and always will be best of friends, which is no small achievement, when you consider the career they shared! We were truly blessed to have them as part of the music industry, and you have to keep in mind that this is only 3 guys, with no auto tune, or special effects to enhance their talent...
