A few things to remember about the live performance: All three guys were just shy of being 60 years old. This performance was at the END OF A THREE HOUR SET. The reggae intro was an acknowledgement of their appreciation for reggae and (IMHO) a tasty way to express their talent and versatility. You did exceptionally well by playing both back to back to see the differences and how the song has remained the same after 40+ years. Great job! See you again soon.
@@TheMoosebreath24 thank you so much, glad you appreciated my doing that. I find hearing them was incredible how close yet how different they were. Thats such a fun fact, what a fantastic way to end the show🤗🤟
The greatest Rush song not written by Neil Peart. Imagine being 20 years old and after hearing 2112, Hemispheres, By Tor and the Snow Dog, Closer to the Heart, La Villa Strangiato, and Xanadu during your first Rush concert, you hear this masterpiece as an encore. What happens is you become a Rush fan for life! The best band I have ever seen live. 19 times. I wish it were more.
I've seen RUSH live 7 times, one of the greatest times was in the last tour I was with my 15 year old daughter. Rush will listened to Forever. The Greatest band EVER !!!
If you want to see some more high-energy live performances, Rush has plenty, but next on your list should be their live performance of 'YYZ' in RIO. 60,000 (not a typo) fans worth of high energy and the best live performance of 'YYZ' bar none!
Actually 2112/Limelight in Rio was even better if you can believe it. Brazilians LOVE Rush! I'm married to one and visit there every year. They know every word to every song despite speaking portuguese 😂 😂
Not many bands could pull that off. I was lucky enough to see them on this tour in Newcastle UK. Geddy said this was his favourite song to play live as it allowed them to really cut loose & improvise. Great reaction as usual young Whimsy xx😉
It’s really cool to see how they modernized the song later in their careers to make it enjoyable and refreshing to play live. The middle section where the two guitars are battling is really amazing to see. You can tell they have played together for many years as they are so in synch with each other. Now that is what you call an encore !
Lyrics and Music by Alex and Geddy. Studio version with John Rutsey (RIP) on drums, good solid rock drummer, loved ya man. Too bad the studio video did not feature John, Alex and Ged cared about him long after he had to leave the band. Rock SOLID Canadian boys!
AWESOME!! Working Man was about the only song that RUSH ever changed-up during their LIVE performances. The LIVE performance from RUSH IN RIO is also a bit different but just as epic!☮
@@kevinmcgiffin10 omg wasn't it? I totally was NOT expecting that lol. Alex was so cute and wow him and Geddy incredible together and Neils drumming was off the hook WOW!!!🤗🤟
Great reaction! The original album version will ALWAYS be spectacular - and kudos to original drummer John Rutsey (RIP) - he was more than just 'capable', that debut album was full of tasty licks & grooves from him. Was he Neil (also RIP)? No, but he certainly wasn't a weak link. However, Rush would've never progressed with him. They needed The Professor to complete the trio! I think they started doing the 'reggae' opening back in 1980. Got to figure, playing that song, every night, it was a great way to change it up! Neil was getting into ska/reggae beats at the time (listen to Vital Signs!) Just think of it...that live version, each member is in their early 60's - absolutely KILLING it!! Love that little snippet of Cygnus X-1 at the end! Long live Rush!! Cheers from Canada, eh!!
@@EchoesDaBear I have had those same thoughts about RUSH! Without the lyrics from Neil, I don't think they would have become the band they became! I saw them in late 1974 before Fly By Night was released. RUSH played before Ted Nugent! At that time they were very blues based rock, but very good & tight even then. Once I heard 2112 in 76, I was hooked for life!
Great song!!! It broke Rush into the US market in 1974! As the previous comment noted, this isn’t Neil on the studio version and Geddy wrote the lyrics on their first album. Neil joined Rush shortly afterwards 🇨🇦🇨🇦

It really shows their enduring 40-year friendship, and how they were bandmates but also the best of friends. You will also really see Alex's sense of humor in 'Dinner with Rush.'

The studio version, & all of the songs on the first album have John Rutsey as the drummer. Neil joined the band after RUSH was released in early 1974. While John's drumming is great, his style & Neil's at the time he joined in late July of 74, was more of a standard "Rock" style! Great song, performance & reaction.
Very cool approach. Side-by-side reactions to the "same-ish" song in the same video. Especially considering the liberties they take with the song, so much later in their career.
Compared the songs between John Rutsy and Neil Peart, Neil took this song, updated it a little but added his unique spin on the drums. Then Alex and Geddy just doing their own solos but making it all come back to finish the song. Man, all the times I got to see them live, this was always a phenomenal song. Great reaction.
