    Don’t try to “stamp” out a fire by pushing up and down on it as the guest demonstrated visually. Lay the nomex on top and wait for the flames to extinguish from lack of oxygen; otherwise you’re just fanning the flame. This tip applies to putting out any fire by smothering it.

      Thank you @readyplayer2 - I hadn't thought about that but what you're saying sounds smart to try. Part of my goal in stamping a fire out with force using the nomex is that you can separate the embers from the remaining fresh material (fuel). The embers then fall into the metal tray below the cutting table, where they can complete their combustion and die out. I'm interested to try your idea though and see if it works better. Thank you for the thoughtfully worded comment.
      Another important thing I wish I would have mentioned in the video is that you want to turn off the exhaust system if there's a fire, because otherwise that moving air is fanning the flames.

    Good tips! I find blue painter's tape better than masking tape for protecting against scorching. It comes off easier and doesn't pull out splinters.

    Jay Leno had a demo of elementfire.com/ fire extinguisher which looks good. I bought a couple of them but am lucky to have Not had a reason to try them.
