I bought two boxes from two different lgs. I didn't record the openings, because I hadn't heard about this yet, but after I opened everything, I noticed that I had alot of rare duplicates. I counted 19 non-foil, non-hyperspace, non-legendary, non-leader rares duplicated, NINETEEN..... if I recall I think I had one pack that had a rare In an uncommon slot, but thia could have been a hs for all I know. I spoke to a friend who opened two boxes as well as some pre release packs, and in all of his packs he only had THREE duplicates! the only legendary duplicate i got a foil, so I don't think that counts. I'm definitely more on the collector side of things, but am also interested in playing, so duplicates are good, but man, I feel like I wasted my money. I'm all about the chase but this has soured my drive. idk if I can justify buying another box for fear of a third duplicate set and I certainly will not buy singles. sad day. thanks for covering this!
Common terms are "box" is shorthand for booster box/display box containing 24 packs. "Case" would refer to a carton of 6 booster/display boxes, so a case would be 144 packs in total.
No denying the predictable mapping is an issue, but there's one major contra argument against it being effectively used to scam people with worthless loose packs. The foil and hyperspace slot legendaries. Can't map those. And someone ignoring the in-between packs would be potentially missing out on those. One of my boxes had so-so regular legendaries, but a hyperspace Poe and a foil Poe, for example.
For sure! Plus every pack could always have a showcase. I think as long as people are aware of the issue, they can make the call. I just wanted to get the info out there. Thanks for watching! 😄
@@hiFunkoSWU Absolutely! People should know. Draft situation is peculiar... It is usually 8 people pod and if they crack new box for each draft, you could hypothetically know all the bombs people would be playing. There's another interesting thing about drafts, and I don't know how many people are aware. There's usually roughly 3 copies of each common and ~1 copy of each uncommon in a box. So again, if there's bomb uncommons, you're likely only gonna face one.
@@Kickyboots1207 Oh that is interesting! I've seen a bit of talk about the commons/uncommons having some consistencies, but haven't looked into it much myself.
@@hiFunkoSWU Yeah, I got 3 boxes, because I wanted a playset of c/u and also for the fun of pack cracking. So I was sorting and tracking c/u after each box. I didn't try to map them, although I'm sure I was seeing patterns there. But I very neatly ended up with a little less than playset (3x) of commons and a little more than a set (1x) of uncommons in each box. I mean, worked out for me! Lol
Interesting question! I haven't seen a lot to say that you'd have better luck with getting different patterned boxes from a case vs buying individually. I think that'll come down to what sort of price you can get on a case vs individual boxes, or how many individual boxes you can source if you're looking to spend a case-amount of money. Good luck!
GGs Funko! Great breakdown

When you say box, do you mean the displaybox that have 24 boosters? Or the shipping box that have 10(is it?) displayboxes in them?

Love the content, Funko!
Is it better to buy individual boxes or a case?
