I as a Swede have never heard of Yule, I always thought we had that straw goat to celebrate Jul aka Christmas as it was the Julbock that delivered us the presents and then it became a tradition to burn it to the ground

Cardinals are appointed by the Pope himself though (well, his predecessor), they're not voted by the people (in this case that would be all the low-level priests, I guess), so I wouldn't call that a democratic election.

In Flanders, we still have a loooot of WWI and WWII bombs in our soil. Not uncommon for farmers to damage their tractors by hitting one of those while ploughing their fields.
