If the brake squeal it does not always say it’s low. I had this issue after I replace it with new pads and rotors. Also check your pressure in the spare tire. It’s always good to have a portable air compressor and battery jump box.
To me things like fluid leaks, brake calipers, wheel bearings, and catalytic converters are important things to be concerned about because these are the kind of things that will cause failures from long term use when maybe otherwise beginning to fail under normal circumstances.
You forgot about the car's cooling system! Important to check your coolant level and make sure there are no leaks! You don't want your car overheating on those long trips!
I drove my 96 rav4 with about 300k for about 5 years leaking a qt of oil every 100 miles or so from every seal you could think of, a split radiator that smokes like a bastard and 2 broken front wheel brings timing belt 7 years past due and I'm alive so everyone panicking about your car, you'll be fine. hooptie lyfe.
my 96 acura didn't require any tools, but it did require your hand to be broken in 5 places in order to get the bulb out. it was fine on the air intake side, but on the battery side it was a huge pain.
I have to say, the car you are demonstrating on, coincidentially, is one of the best for a long road trip. The Ford Crown Victoria or it's sibling the Mercury Grand Marquis. I drove a Crown Vic for the company I worked for, sometimes through multiple states and boy are they comfortable. Large, roomy, nice riding and couches for seats. Not like these narrow firm seats in every vehicle now where your butt hurts after 75 milies. Smooth band of V-8 power. Rear wheel drive. Large trunk. One of the best.
On a lot of cars that have daytime running lights in a constantly lit dash, usually a green logo will light up on the dash when the headlights are on but I would still walk around the car and make sure.
I think it's hilarious how I'm about to take a road trip and my dad said I need to get a tune-up. And when you said tuneup the camera showed a clip of woman reading a 2010 Acura TSX owner manual which is the exact car I have.
Low gas prices are nice but as long as gas station is available fill up with that's good that's good enough for me. As far as the tires are concerned you could always pick up a tread depth gauge which is relatively inexpensive if you want Bridget's Pacific about how much tire tread you have.
I'm late to the party, I have 2 things I wanted to mention since this video was made. 1) Air for your tires isn't always free, fueling stations are often charging for the use of their air guns - anywhere from 75 cents to over a dollar (for about 5 minutes of air). 2) My 2008 Chevy Impala LS has automatic headlights that do indeed light all the necessary lights - including headlights, and tail lights - I checked.
a quarter better represents 1/8", the all-weather minimum compared to the penny's 1/16", which represents only dry weather minimum and severely compromised braking
I enjoy your channel, but I sincerely hope you know what kind of management and business practices Cars Dawydiak participates in and hope you aren’t involved legally.
Also check coolant, brake fluid, power steering, and automatic transmission fluid levels, if applicable. Make sure all the dash warning lights are working.
I'm still amazed no one uses the "wear bars" on tires to see if they need replacing. The government requires 6 to be installed so they are easy to find. Sucks companies have to spend money for that feature and no one uses them....
And take a flashlight with good batteries on your road trip as well. Changing tires by "feel" is no fun and can be downright dangerous. Never mind how I know.....
Wear indicators, or as some of us mechanics call them, tattletales. Those battery protector sprays are garbage. Not worth their overpriced dye. Get cheap clear spray paint, spray both the terminal and the connector very wet, put them together, then spray it heavy again. You'll get a weather and acid resistant connection that you can still jump other vehicles through (if you don't have dedicated jump points) and still remove when it's time to replace your battery.
COOLEY 2020, 2024 AND IF THEY WOULD ALLOW IT...FOREVER..............! UNDER COOLEY EVERY AMERICAN WOULD RECEIVE A CAR! UNDER COOLEY EVERY CHILD WOULD BE TAUGHT AT SCHOOL HOW TO CHANGE AN OIL FILTER!
It may be nice and warm here in the yay area this time of year but freezing where you’re going. Use antifreeze windshield washer fluid because in slush is where you’ll need that stuff the most anyways.
Tire Air is the only thing that your car gets for free? Lol I think not. 1.50 here unless you feel like driving 15 miles into town to a certain gas station that gives free air.
How has Cooley fallen so far. Used to be the main man who made amazing videos had his own long form show. Now he just makes a couple random useless videos with no point.
"If your car fails because your not checking your oil, well you suck." - God I love Cooley.
I LOLed. haha
I agree laughed so much
😂that was hilarious
Dont forget about the blinker fluid
There is nothing like a blinker fluid lol
@@asemotajosephine3790 na man, blinker fluid is the MOST important thing to check before a road trip.
Lol
Check!
I always make sure to bring along my left handed spanner and long weight too.

This is the longest video Cooley has posted since the demise of “CNET On Cars” 🙌🙌🙌🙌. Bring back On Cars!!!
Cooley u da man
I just love the way this guy explains everything.
"COOLEY IS MY CO-PILOT" I want that bumper sticker.

Well, you have a Toyota. That helps.
3:28 haha “in which case, you suck.” That’s awesome
Cooley's ingenious ploy to expense an oil change and tune-up. Brilliant!
my 96 acura didn't require any tools, but it did require your hand to be broken in 5 places in order to get the bulb out. it was fine on the air intake side, but on the battery side it was a huge pain.
Ain't that the truth!
CNET ON CARS WITH BRIAN COOLEY. This is what we want!
Just one more important thing: ensure you have a functioning car jack
And "Air in the Spare!"
I would have voted for him in 2016.
What
simple, just bring Brian Cooley with you.

This was excellent. Great reminders about essential car care. I’m subscribing now
I'm about to embark on a 36 hour trip for the first time...possibly. This is some great information.
How did it go? I’m going 24 in about 20 days

Great advice well presented
Great advice. Keep the videos coming.
Thanks a lot!
Is that Cooley's garage with all those Ferraris?
COOLANT FLUSH.
I have a 2010 G37 sedan with 142k miles. it has been very reliable for me. I would love to take it on a road trip but I don’t want to be stranded
I have a 2010 G37xs 200k miles wanna take it to PA but I’m scared
@@newbozz1 mines now at 151k miles with no problems. I definitely could’ve taken it across the country lol
.Great video, thanks for sharing.
This on for the dads
I wouldn't mind taking that F12 back there for a road trip.
I think they are listening to us. Cooley heaven!!!!
Why am I taking car maintenance advise from Gus Fring from Breaking Bad?
Do you have to worry about corrosion on side terminal batteries? Just wondering.
Was that a Yaesu?

My Altima has a little over 430k miles Any tips for me??
Play the lottery.
is cooley going on a road trip as an undercover cop?
No all cars need some type of tools to remove light bulbs.
im intrested in the car in the video what type of ford is it?????????
2004 crown victoria
Who's Grorge Washington.. Lol
That's a bummer on a road trip loll
Amazing that only tires and wiper fluid are the only categories that apply to electric cars. Life is simpler in my LEAF,
archaz Range?
First
Do all that if your car isn’t a volkswagen
I thought it was a penny to check ur tires?
a quarter better represents 1/8", the all-weather minimum compared to the penny's 1/16", which represents only dry weather minimum and severely compromised braking
Yea unless you have a ford lol. Then the brakes squeal even when the pads are new (poor calliper design)
Dirk Turrell mine dont
I don't think I have seen a perfect looking Crown Vic.
Air is seldom free anymore Cooley!
Lifehack you can get rid of battery corrosion with a can of coke
Or, just rent a car?
Lol people who run out of oil suck.
this camera is way too old lol

Make sure all the dash warning lights are working.
What if I drive a manual transmission.
cooley I would like to remind you that you're awsome
Only Cooley can tell me "you suck" and make me feel educated.
Don’t forget to check your air filter. Real easy to clean and can improve your car’s performance.
prep your car 2 weeks ahead of roadtrip
so if anyone you do goes wrong
Just give us Cooley On Cars! We all want him back with a full show.
Cooley is the only man i can actually pay attention to when discussing car mechanics/tech. Now teach me how engines work! lol

Jason Harris I do
So do I ;)
My name is no one, and I use them too.
Nice vid. My battery retired on me on a roadtrip. No hard starting, it just died. Good thing I had a jumper cable.
Check air in spare tire. Rehearse a roadside tire change in the dark. Fluids, belts, hoses and charging system.
And take a flashlight with good batteries on your road trip as well. Changing tires by "feel" is no fun and can be downright dangerous. Never mind how I know.....
Hey Cooley air is not free anymore
franky santos. In California, air and water are free, by law.
@@eos3325 You know what? California isn't the world.

@5:25 this is a big problem on the roads these days - thank you for mentioning it! 🇺🇸
Hey lady I got news for you. If your ZIP Code doesn’t start with nine, you’re not in California. Duh.
Just go to a good oil change place and they’ll check all of your fluids and filters.
