  • PLAKE'S PICK
The Ripstick 106 is the ultimate ski for variable terrain from boundary line to base lodge, peak to parking lot, and trailhead to tailgate. No wonder it's Glen's favorite ski from the Elan collection!
Life can get complicated when choosing your freeride quiver. Fatties may leave something to be desired on hardpack in the backcountry, while on narrower sticks you fall behind your buddies on deep days. The Ripstick 106 is the solution, as it's the perfect width for a one-ski backcountry quiver. It's designed for skiers that seek exceptional performance while exploring all the mountain has to offer. It's a smooth ride no matter where you take it - front side, steeps, trees, or exploring untouched terrain, this lightweight versatile ski is up for any challenge. The addition of TNT Technology, Amphibio profile and SST Sidewall supply the power, smoothness, maneuverability and precision. It's hard to argue with Plake: "This is the one ski I can take anywhere in the world and be fine."
I need skis that work in perfect powder conditions as well as on icy, steep and narrow terrain. And, I often have to skitour for hours, days and sometimes even weeks...So my skis should be lightweight. However, I do not accept less performance because of reduced weight. The Ripsticks cover my needs for skiing in the Antarctic and as well skiing in the most northern mountain range on Ellesmere Island, and of course, in the powder of the Austrian Alps.

    TNT TECHNOLOGY
CONFIDENCE BUILDING PERFORMANCE FOR ANY SITUATION ON THE MOUNTAIN.
TNT technology is a combination of innovations that provide the best balance of lightweight construction with power and performance. TNT Technology integrates Vapor Tip Inserts into a TubeLite Woodcore. The end result is an extremely lightweight high performace ski with exceptional power, dampness and stability.

I'm curious why he chooses this over the 106 Black Edition. Not having skied either model, I've been considering the Black Edition, but now I'm not so sure. I'm not an overly aggressive skier, but am on the heavier side - just assumed the non-black might be too soft with 250 lbs on it. For moderate speeds on a lower-advanced skier's feet, what are your thoughts? Thanks in advance.

I honestly don't think there would be a dramatic difference between the two. He is lighter but he's an agressive skier so I think I would stick with the standard
